The Present Truth
2 Peter 1:12 “Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.”
“The Bible is archaic, irrelevant and out of date” is a favourite of the Bible hater, and one that I’ve heard many times in my life.
I could say that it’s not a logical, rational or even reasonable statement, but the Bible answers this statement very neatly for itself.
The phrase in this verse “the present truth” describes what the Bible is… the present truth.
The word “present” has a variety of uses and meanings depending on context. And if you look at every sense of this word, and actually think about it, this phrase is quite incredible.
We use the word “present” to mean “here” like for instance “the present company”.
We also use the word “present” to mean “now” like for instance “the present year 2022”.
Because the Bible is the “here and now” truth. It’s always “here and now” no matter what year it is. It’s just as present now as it was last year, as it was a hundred years ago, as it was at the time Peter wrote his second epistle.
Peter referenced people, places and events from hundreds to thousands of years before, and he didn’t think they were out of date.
Because truth cannot go out of date. Time and truth are not in proportionality. And truth is always present, and that in more ways than one.
But we’ve been so programmed by evolutionary and progressive ideology that we violated the principle of this verse. We have been negligent with truth.
And maybe you can’t and don’t accept the Bible as the present truth. Sure, that can be your stance “at present”, and for many it is. But it doesn’t change the present truth.
One of the main reasons why the Bible is the present truth is because God is the present God. One of Jesus Christ’s names is “I am”, which is a present title.
And when the Bible says present truth, it means you have it, because you have been given it. And it’s a better present than anything you could get later this month.
We like presents. How about the truth? You’ve been presented it in God’s word. And in the Bible, where every word of God is present and accounted for, all we need is to presently accept and believe it.
You’ll never be made a fool if you build your life on “the present truth”.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 33 y/o Bible Blogger from Adelaide, South Australia. God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to share it with others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s Jesus Christ’s faith far more than my own! Because he is faithful. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and by God’s grace I anchor my soul to it. My destination is heaven. As they say, this world is not my home, I’m just a passin’ through… although most of the time I feel more like I’m hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports, I currently work on an orchard and one of my main hobbies/interests is growing vegetables. I love writing. I’m always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment on my blog or through email! My blog is inspired by Isaiah 2, and Isaiah’s vision of the last days when all nations will flow unto the Lord’s house, in a future time where everyone will love to hear God’s word and walk in light of Lord. And it is my hope that my blog will “strengthen the brethren” and “feed my sheep” as Jesus told Peter. Whether you visit once or regularly, I hope my blog is of some benefit to you on your journey of life! It’s a long journey, but with Christ you will make it to the other side.
