They Shall Seek The Word Of The Lord, And Shall Not Find It

Amos 8:11 – Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

Amos 8:12 – And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

Amos 8:13 – In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

Hello readers, new blog today. They shall seek the word of the Lord. This is a blog on God’s word, the Holy Bible. We live in a world who’s hostility to God’s word is increasing day by day. This shouldn’t be a surprise, this world has always been wicked, it’s always been in darkness. But just like in times past, once again we are departing from God’s word. There has been revivals in times past when the book of the Lord has been found, dusted off, and injected into societies and nations. Light has come with the opening of the book and obedience thereunto.

The Bible is already banned in countries, it’s happening in China, in the Middle East, and other parts of the world. It’s a crime to be a Christian, to have a Bible. Behold the power of the book. No book, no word has been persecuted more since the dawn of time. Right from the garden of Eden when Satan came to Eve, the persecution of the precious seed of the word of God has been on. Why does Satan go after God’s word so much? Because there’s power in the word of God, it is the gospel that produces a new birth, it is God’s word that is glorious light in the dark gloominess of this lie filled, death fill, sin cursed world we live in.

First people don’t want the Bible. Because before the Bible is gone, first it was, we didn’t want it. Personally is that true of you? God sends a famine for hearing God’s word. Shut the book preacher. Stop Bible bashing. The Bible’s archaic, it’s out of date, it’s irrelevant, it’s the problem! You don’t want it because you don’t want to obey it. You don’t want to hear it. You don’t want to be reminded of it. Remember, before Cain killed Abel, they were talking beforehand. This world wants to get rid of God’s word, that includes anyone who believes in it, who is a reminder of it. We are in a world that is aggressively trying to remove God from public consciousness, from thinking, from every sphere and aspect of society and life. Think of the dark ages, think of the huge period of time after Malachi’s last prophecy to the arrival of John the Baptist. Think of all the silence for hundreds of years. Those four hundred years in Egypt of soulless, mindless toil. Any age without God’s word, where you’ve left it, where you’re in slavery to Pharaoh, where your life is in affliction, bondage, toil and slavery to sin… that’s a dark age. The Bible is light, the entrance of thy words giveth light. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. While we’ve got the light, believe in the light.

People don’t want God’s word, and they’ll get their wish. Read Proverbs 1, it talks of people who didn’t want wisdom, who don’t want God’s word… and you know what… they get what they want. Because after you don’t want it, it’ll lead to you not having it. There’s a famine of hearing, people don’t want to hear. You know why we have churches with pastors and teachers the way they are? Because that’s what the people want. They don’t want the Bible. 2 Timothy 4:3,4 – For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

If you want a life, a world without God’s word, you may just get what you wished for. How scary is the next verse of Amos… they’ll then wander looking for it… but won’t be able to find that same God’s word that they didn’t want to hear when they had the chance. They’ll seek the word of the Lord, but they’ll not find it. That’s what happened in the days of Samuel. The Bible says the word of the Lord was precious in those days, there was no open vision. God only spoke to one person, and that was a little boy called Samuel, the son of a faithful God fearing woman called Hannah. He didn’t speak to the priests, not even Eli. What a damning indictment when God only speaks to a child, when only a child has the heart and ears to hear and obey the word of the Lord.

We who live in free countries, or relatively free countries, we enjoy the ability to have instant access to God’s word whenever we want. That’s an amazing privilege we have. So much of human history, people didn’t have that access. They’d need to see a prophet. They didn’t have God’s word, his FULL counsel recorded in one book. We have such an infinite resource. We have the mind of Christ written down. We have the love of Christ written down. We have the revelation of Christ written down. We are beyond without excuse. How come we hate it so much? How come we set him and his word at nought so much?

Luke 23:11 – And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate. Are you like Herod and his men of war? You think you’re invincible, you think you’re better, you think you know more? You mock God? You mock God’s word? You make a mockery out of Jesus Christ? You know, you might feel you have the high ground but things are only so because God has let them be so. Jesus could have called twelve legions of angels, but he had been born to that end, to be mocked to die on the cross for our sins. But next time he comes, it’ll be as King of kings and Lord of lords. It’s funny when people think they’re smarter than God, stronger than God, when they feel so invincible and justified in themselves, when they poke fun at  God’s word… but you may just be sending away your own salvation. They sent Jesus away… they were sending their own free gift of forgiveness and eternal life away. Just maybe, in all your wisdom and resources, you are being played for a complete fool by the devil, who will laugh at you in hell with him.

And they shall wander… you know what. A life without God’s word is wandering. Aimless wandering. Then then they’ll run… perhaps as fast as those feet ran to Noah’s ark as the rain drops started to fall, as the ground began to swell from beneath. They won’t find it. You see, you can’t find God, he finds you. And he’s finding you today, he’s extended the hand of salvation, he’s extended his word, he’s given you conscience, he’s given you creation, he’s given you the gospel. You spurn it? Well when he withdraws it, you won’t be able to find him. If you can’t see him when he’s offering you salvation today, how will you find him if he chooses not to found? Where will you look?

It’s easy to take God’s word for granted. But when it’s gone. Where will your thirst be satisfied. In that day the fair virgins and the young men shall thirst. People will so want God’s word. But they won’t have it. You let them take your Bible. Don’t assume you’ll get it back. Remember Naboth, he didn’t sell out, he didn’t sell his vineyard… he didn’t exchange it for Ahab’s garden of herbs. But people have thrown God’s word out. All these new  Bibles, that’s you trading God’s word in, it’s you selling God’s word out. You’re exchanging something with the perfect balances of the Holy Spirit of God for a word with the unjust abominable balances of the hand and imagination of man. You see, you may think you won’t have sold out, or thrown away God’s word. But you already have. You’ve traded out your Bible for a new Bible. You’ve refused the old paths, the common salvation, the faith once delivered to the saints… you’re already gone way away from truth to a truth that is no truth that suits your lustful, prideful, sin loving, world loving, flesh pleasing heart and life.

Thirst ends at the word of God. That woman at the well in John 4, her thirst was met with the gospel of Jesus Christ. If you’ve set him and his word at nought in your life… well first comes not wanting to hear, then comes not being able to find. God is removed from society, from conscience, from thinking, from doing, from the public sphere and the private life… and that’s by our choice. Well Satan devours up that seed, he takes it away. He doesn’t want you to have God’s word. He doesn’t want you to have light, to have truth. God’s word is his enemy, he’s after the seed, he always has been. And the battle is on in earnest today. And God has let it happen to prove each and every single one of us. Everyone will thirst, that young generation, with all their youth and ability and potential for  God, instead athirst, instead lacking what truly matters. What is life without the book of life to guide you?

They’ll faint for thirst, that is a sore thirst reader, have you ever been so thirsty for a cup of water you fainted? That’s bad thirst. Maybe you’re getting by in life, navigating a nice little life of compromise with a bit of God and a bit of world, a bit of righteousness and a bit of sin, well Satan and your flesh and this world might not conquer you in a day, but one day, you might just wake up and realize what’s gone. Samson woke up, and God had departed from him. It was while men slept, that the enemy came in and sowed tares in the wheat. It’s time to awake, it’s time to stand, it’s time to get in God’s word, to know it and to stand on it. Daniel and his friends in Babylon did. They didn’t trade in the book of the law for Babylonian customs, thinking, traditions, ways, philosophies, speaking… they held to God’s word. They knew the value of God’s word.

God’s word is the most valuable thing you’ve got, while you’ve got it. Believe it. John 12:36 – While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them. Is Jesus hidden from you? Jesus spoke to them, yet so many did not believe him for all he said and the miracles he did. How hard is that stony heart of unbelief? Believe in the light while you’ve got it. Be a child of the light, not of the night. Night is coming when you won’t have the light anymore. Will God’s word, will the light, be in your heart when it’s gone? Where it cannot be taken away? If God’s word stays at the end of your fingertips and not in your heart, one day it’ll be gone. It’s useless to you if it hasn’t been assimilated in faith. Psalm 119:11 – Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

It starts with the day you don’t want to hear it, and those days will become days where you don’t have it anymore, and then you won’t find it. God is not mocked the Bible says. He truly is not, he in his grace and mercy has given us a nail in his holy place, we live in such a blessed time, but darkness is once again enveloping a Christ rejecting world, hold to God’s word, find it, keep it, store it up… today is the day. If we don’t have God’s word, we’ve got nothing. No promises, no assurance, no line of communication from our Creator. No sword, no shield, no armor, no light, no blessing, no knowledge, no wisdom… no salvation… nothing. They shall seek the word of the Lord, and they shall not find it. It’s because they didn’t want it, they put it out of their lives, out of their nation. Now they want it back when it’s gone. The harvest is past, the summer is ended… and we are not saved. That’s Bible, that’s Jeremiah. Don’t let this be you.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 32 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
