Song of Solomon 1:6 – Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother’s children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept.
Hey all, new blog today, and talking about faithfulness, talking about the gospel, the gospel of reconciliation, of hope, of the Lord Jesus Christ. Chiefly talking about the big “BUT” here in the Song of Solomon. Because there are critical BUTs in the Bible… such as with Naaman… he was a mighty, honorable man… But the Bible says “BUT” he was a leper. What’s the BUT in your life? You’ve done this and that, you’ve been this and that… BUT. BUT. BUT. And here in Song of Solomon we read… BUT mine own vineyard have I not kept. This blog is about sincerity, about being genuine, about being the real deal, about truth. About not neglecting the important. Matthew 25:21 – His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. We can neglect so much in our lives. We can fail to prepare. We don’t prepare for eternity. We can sail through life, and be so negligent. We can not realize the seriousness of the little things. And how the little things, the devil is in the detail as they say… how they add up down the road! Sin has a bite to it. It has pleasure, but it works death the Bible says. So true. Moses neglected something in his own home. God called him to serve, but he had not circumcised his child. The Bible says the Lord sought to kill him, until Moses’ wife, Zipporah, circumcised his child. So many of the prophets, so many men of God neglected their homes, their children. We learn from their mistakes. It is so painful to look back and realize the consequences of our foolishness. Sin in our life that has gone on unchecked, slipped by… Achan hid something in his tent in Joshua 7… and wow that carried such a severe penalty… and now the chickens have come home to roost. Nothing gets by God. God puts us in charge over a few things, and if we are faithful, he will give us more… both in this life, and in the world to come. The Bible says Noah prepared an ark to the saving of his house. Preparation is so important. There were 5 virgins who were ready, and 5 virgins who were not ready. Are you READY? Are you PREPARED? Amos 4:12 – Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel. Have you been faithful? Truly faithful? Are you even IN the faith? 2 Corinthians 13:5 – Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
God is the faithful one. Psalms 119:90 – Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth. He is is so faithful. He has been to every generation of people that has ever lived. There are no excuses. We all are speechless before God, as Job was, who was a far better man than any of the people we are today. Not a person has gone to hell an innocent bystander. If you go to hell, it’s because you chose there, you walked straight over the blood of Jesus, you counted his blood for nothing, you trampled the grace of God, you FOUGHT God to get there. You rejected the Holy Spirit. You said… NO to God. But of course you wouldn’t say that. You wouldn’t put it thattt way. You say Jesus is a good man and you believe him, you say the right things, many good and noble things come out your mouth… but what does your LIFE say? Does your life yell your disregard for God from the housetops? Does your life trumpet out your foolishness? Does your life foam out the hypocrisy.
When the light is turned on to your life… is there lots of shame, lots of nakedness there? Adam and Eve tried hiding their sin. But nakedness cannot be clothed with the figs of self righteousness and self effort, it takes putting on the clothing of Christ’s righteousness. He took our shame. Are you washed in his blood? Clean through his word? Doesn’t matter who you are, where you’ve come from, what colour your skin. We are all created by Jesus Christ, he is your Creator. And it’s not his will for you to go to hell… hell wasn’t even designed for you, it was made for the devil and his angels. Wasn’t designed for you. But you will chose to go there, all because you enjoy your sin and reputation and pride a little too much. Something so small, so stupid, holding you back from being saved. Salvation is a free gift. There are no works attached. What good works we do after we are saved is because we ARE and HAVE BEEN saved… not to BE saved. But true salvation produces true change, because there is a new creature, born again of the Spirit of God in you. A few years of pleasure… does it outweigh eternity? The Bible says God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Luke 13:3 – I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Repentance is a big deal. But most people don’t repent. Ever. In fact quite the opposite, most people justify and are even proud of their sin. People can stop their sin, but their sin is still not dealt with. People can live morally, they can turn over a new leaf, they can reform… sin still not dealt with. Jeremiah 6:15 – Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD. Look at what Proverbs says. Proverbs 30:12 – There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness. Is this you? Don’t deceive yourself. Why willingly fool yourself? Are you WILLFULLY ignorant? You choose a lie?
God is faithful. It is his faithfulness to us. Christ in us. Christ in us that endures to the end, that sees us through to glory. Revelation 19:11 – And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. Jesus is faithful and true. In fact that is his NAME. And his word is faithful. If you get in his word… if only you would get in his word! You’d get all the warning and direction for your life. You’d be so wise! You’d make such great eternally minded decisions! Doesn’t mean you won’t go through trials and afflictions and endure grief, but the trial of your faith is precious before God, and our light affliction is just for a moment and worketh a far more exceeding weight of glory, precious are the tears of his saints the Bible says. Furthermore… Revelation 22:6 – And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done. God’s word, his sayings, are faithful and true. John 17:17 – Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. God’s word is a river of life, it is THE river of life. If only you would get to the river, get planted by the river, and stay by the river! Abide in him, abide in his word. Truly born again! And settled right in on the word of God.
Revelation 22:1,2 – And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. Do you need life? Go to the Lord Jesus Christ. Do you need healing? God’s word is pure, God’s word brings purity, cleanness to your life. God will separate you unto Christ… we don’t separate to be saved, but we are separated… not for separation’s sake either… but we are separated UNTO the gospel of Christ. True salvation brings true change. Are you washed in the blood of Lamb? The first Psalm… Psalms 1:1-3 – Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
In Song of Solomon, we see the Bible says… mine own vineyard have I not kept. Have you lived a great old life, but neglected your own salvation? What are you neglecting? To whom much is given much is required. The Bible also says, To him that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin. Jeremiah 8:20 – The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved. Is this you? Life can be pretty easy for some of us, do we really know hardship, affliction? What does the blood of Jesus really mean to you? It is not enough just to believe… the devils believe and tremble. It must be HEART belief, not intellectual assent, intellectual head knowledge of Jesus. Cain spoke to God, Balaam spoke to God… they went to hell. James 5:5 – Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. Are you being fattened up for slaughter? If you die right now, where are you going? To heaven, or to hell? It’s that final. No second chances… ever. The Bible says in Luke 16 that in hell the rich man lift up his eyes being in torments. One heartbeat and eternity. Suddenly your whole vain life becomes irrelevant. All your achievements, experiences, all that fun and pleasure you had. The permanency and irreversible nature of eternal hell. It won’t be fun, its going to be HORRIBLE. Cain went to hell, he’s STILL there, all these thousands of years later, and he’s not getting out… ever. Revelation 20:15 – And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. People say, oh you’re trying to scare me. It’s just what God’s word says… the same word who created the heaven and the earth, the same word who created you… I’d say his word carries quite a lot of weight. And it’s a good thing to get the holy fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
Luke 13:23 – Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
Luke 13:24 – Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
Luke 13:25 – When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
Luke 13:26 – Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.
Luke 13:27 – But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.
Luke 13:28 – There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.
Luke 13:29 – And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.
Luke 13:30 – And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.
Will you seek to enter in to heaven and not be able? You’ve lived your whole life on the broad road, and now you’re trying to enter in at the strait gate? Too late. Noah’s ark shut… too late. The writing on the wall for Belshazzar and doomed Babylon… too late. You’ve spent your whole lifetime in his presence, exposed to his teaching… you’ve heard all about Jesus, you know it all, you’ve gone through life a church goer, baptized… yet no internal reality, you weren’t truly born again, you really just did your own thing, lived your own life, lived your own way. In fact, you are a worker of iniquity. Take an honest look at your life. You’ve hidden sin well, but even then you haven’t, your life is full of iniquity. Because we all are. Noone exempt. A saved person is a person who has truly been convicted of sin, the nature of being saved is ADMITTING that you are lost, that you need help, you need mercy, you can’t save yourself, you can’t help your plight. And you turn to Jesus, the provision of God from God to you.
It’s just do you see it, are you honest enough with God about yourself? Do you agree with God? The Bible says the heart is desperately wicked and deceitful above all things, who can know it? God knows the depths of our wickedness. You will try to enter, you will justify yourself, but you will not be able to enter in. And you will be cast out. Jesus wouldn’t have cast you out if you only came to him in your lifetime. But now you will be cast out, you will be rejected. And there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. You will wail, you will weep, you will be tormented forever. Revelation 14:11 – And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. No rest. Ever. Doesn’t sound good does it. Meanwhile, those who are truly saved will enter into the glory and blessedness of the Lord. From the north, south, east, west, there are people saved all over the world. Those humble, hell deserving but truly repentant, truly forgiven sinners. The harlots of Jesus’ day, the publicans, the sinners, the lowest of the low, the scum, the offscouring of the world, the foolish for Christ, the nobodies, the faithful few who just touched the hem of the garment. Whom Jesus had compassion and mercy on and healed. And so the last shall be first, and the first last. You’ve spent a whole lifetime being first, you’ve had it pretty good, right now you are the first, as the rich man was, who fared sumptuously, who was clothed in purple… but in hell, he is the last… the beggar was last, he lived off scraps, dogs licked his sores, but he is now the first.
Luke 16:25 – But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. The rich man was foolish. Sure, he had a good life here on earth, but was it worth it? Do you think he thinks it was worth it? No. All his prosperity and earthly joy is long forgotten. All he knows is despair, torments, regret, pain, suffering. He neglected his own soul. Are you neglecting your soul today? Are you dead in your trespasses and sins? Are you spiritually alive, or are you spiritually dead? Have you neglected your Christian walk? Has your vineyard been neglected? Not kept? It’s overrun by rubbish, it’s been trashed. Satan is a thief. What has he stolen from you that was not his to take, but he’s taken so much from you. He got you. You were never a match for him. He has far too much guile and subtlety, and like a fool you’ve neglected your vineyard. You haven’t read God’s word, and your life is vain and wasted. Lord, Lord. But no entering into the holy city.
Revelation 22:14 – Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
Revelation 22:15 – For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
What category are you in? Jesus said, if ye love me, keep my commandments. But you have neglected his word, his commandments, in fact are you even saved at all? Are you going to be shut out? Are you in the Revelation 22:15 category? Ask yourself… truly? Are you? Revelation 22:10,11 – And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand. He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. If you are unjust now, and you die unsaved, you will be unjust forever. Filthy now, filthy forever. Because your future depends on the right here and right now. The wisest thing you’ll ever do is get serious with God right now. Don’t take his Holy Spirit for granted. Don’t put it off. Pray right now. Right where you are. Repent. Set yourself to seek God in sincerity. Pray. Fast. Be honest. Humble yourself before God. Confess your wickedness, your sin, your deceitful heart, the utter worthlessness of your best efforts. Your best day, your best righteousness is dirt in the sight of God. It is ONLY the righteousness of Christ that matters. The blood of Christ, apply it to your heart today, get washed, get clean, get in your right mind. Seek the Lord while he may be found the Bible says. Keep at God until he answers you. He will see whether you truly seek him, whether you truly want him. He’s not deceived, he’s not mocked by any pretense or sham.
Will you keep your own vineyard? Or is it long gone. But it’s not hopeless!!! Because Jesus breaks us first, then binds us up. And there is good news, the gospel news. Because it’s not too late. You’re NOT without hope. Jesus is the keeper of the sheep. Maybe you haven’t kept your vineyard, so give it to Jesus. He will set things in order, he is the keeper of the sheep, he will keep you. FOREVER. He is the healer of the breach, he stands in the gap, he restores the lost years, he is the good Samaritan, the shepherd of our souls. Because Jesus took all our sin, our shame, our judgement what was coming to us rightfully, upon himself. And therefore we can walk free. Read Isaiah 53. All of it, but verses 5,6 – But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. The Bible says he was despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, he was stricken, smitten of God and afflicted, he was oppressed and afflicted yet he opened not his mouth, he was brought as a lamb to the slaughter, he was taken from prison and from judgement, he was cut off from the land of the living, he made his grave with the wicked… it pleased the Lord to bruise him, his soul was made an offering for my sin, for your sin. The innocent, undefiled, sinless Son of God… the Lamb of God which took away the sin of the world. We started out with BUTs, and hopefully in your life, right now, there will be a BUT which denotes a changing of direction for the better. Repentance, the gospel coming to town in your life… the cross of Jesus Christ… true Godly repentance, and God moving on your soul, reviving your spirit. That’ll be a good, worthwhile, and eternally profitable BUT. But God.
