Revelation 14:3 – And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.

Song of Solomon 1:1 – The song of songs, which is Solomon’s.

Exodus 15:1 – Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the Lord, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

Hello readers, back with a new blog today. Give me a new song! Today I’m talking about the Lord Jesus Christ giving us a new song. Having a song in your heart can be a commonly used cliche in Christendom. There is a new song in your heart when you get saved. Your life is singing a new tune. There is a new song in your heart that comes from a new birth and spiritual life.

Has the Lord ever given you a new song? Do you know what that song sounds like? No man can learn the song of salvation, it’s a song known only to those who have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ. Have you ever heard of the saying “changing your tune”? When someone has “changed their tune”, they are said to have changed their opinion or way of doing something. Oh, that guy is different now, his tune has changed.

We all start out with the same old tune of sin and disobedience to God in our life. That tune is familiar to all of us. That tune plays like a broken record. Satan gave us his tune, remember, he is a musical creature. We have his tune of doubt, disobedience, and death in our life. There is no melody in our heart to the Lord, no there is that beat and bassline and tune of rebellion to our Creator.

Music is worship, music is powerful. It’s amazing how music affects our lives, often in many ways we don’t even realize. Music affects how we think, how we feel and how we behave. Often a rebellious teenager has his rebellious music to go with the tune of his rebellious life. You cannot sing the song of redemption if you have not been redeemed. Moses only knew that song after the Red Sea had closed upon the enemy that had been pursuing hard behind him and his people.

I’ve talked to people before and they’ve justified the modern Christian music that they endorse and love from these verses about singing a new song. But worldly rock music with a Christian facelift isn’t the new song that the Bible is referring to. These people have no idea about what that new song is. They can’t learn that new song. They don’t know anything about that new song that Jesus puts in your heart when you repent and believe on him.

The Bible says a lot about singing, and I’ve quoted some verses above which are but a few of many. The devilish music in churches today isn’t a new song unto the Lord. Many professing Christians have no new song, there is no melody in their heart to the Lord. They think they’re worshipping the Lord, but they’re worshipping the devil. They’re still dead in their sins.

Today’s thought is nothing groundbreaking. But if you have ever wanted a breakthrough in your life, if you’ve ever wanted a new tune for your life, you’ll know what a new song is all about. Give me a new song God. Put a new track on, not that old broken record of disobedience, darkness and rebellion. Put a new track on in my heart, a song that arises out of a redeemed heart and soul, a song that arises out of eternal thanksgiving for what the Lord has done for you.

Many people do not have the song of salvation in their heart. Many people do not have the song of redemption. In Exodus 15, after God brought back the Red Sea upon Pharaoh’s army, forever delivering the people of Israel from Egypt’s power, Moses sang a beautiful song. He hadn’t sung that song before. But that victory put a song in his heart. Those Israelites didn’t have much of a song in their hearts under the Egyptian whips and bondage, but they got a song when they’re looking back and seeing an enemy pursuing them no more.

When you’re set free from sin, God’s miraculous salvation, the Holy Spirit shedding forth the love of God in your heart… that puts a song in your heart. And that’s the new song God is talking about. Solomon had a song, the song of all songs in fact. Salvation, being right with the Lord Jesus Christ, that is the song of songs. Just as he is the King of kings and the Lord of lords.

There’s no need to update tried and tested and true Biblical music. How can the truths and melody of the tried and tested and true hymns of the faith ever go out of date? Hymns like “Amazing grace” and “Abide with me”, they need no remix, they have not gone out of date. The same Christians who changed out their Bible also changed out their songs. It’s just like the children of Israel in the wilderness, we’re sick of this manna! They wanted flesh, and this new music in churches is flesh to eat, it caters to the carnality of these religious church goers.

Do you want a new tune in your life? Will you ever  change your tune? That tune of denial of truth, that tune of rejection of truth, that tune of going your own way in life… when is that going to get old on you? When are you going to get sick of that tune of your old life? God can put a new song in your heart, a song based on how good he has been to you in saving you from your sins.

A true believer has a new song in their heart, they have a new tune. We wonder why many people calling themselves Christians have no new song, there is no new tune, they’re out of tune with God, there is no melody and harmony with God and his word… it’s because they have no new birth. You can’t learn the song of redemption without having experienced redemption yourself. Salvation and the life and moving of the Holy Spirit is something you can’t practice, it’s something you can’t learn. If you’re not saved and born again, you’re none of his.

Are you tired of that old life of sin? Is your life of sin playing like a broken record? Do you want to put a new track in your record player? Do you want God to give you a new song? I’ve had some familiar songs in my heart, the familiar tune of disobedience. The familiar tune of doubt. The familiar tune of failure. The familiar tune of darkness and despair. The familiar tune of hopelessness. It’s because I got out of melody, out of harmony, out of tune with God. I wanted my song back. There’s nothing that will take your song away like disobedience to God’s word and sin. Sin is not worth it. Going your own way, doing what’s right according to you, living selfishly, living according to my lusts and my pride… it’s not worth it.

And people know the tune of your life. People hear the tune that does not match the profession. They know something’s out of harmony. Something’s out of tune, something’s broken in your song. Maybe you’ve got out of tune, out of sync, out of melody with God. In Psalm 137:4, we read the words “How shall we sing the Lord’s song in a strange land?” Israel was in captivity for all their sin and disobedience to God. The song was gone because the glory was gone. You’ll trade in that sweet song when you compromise on truth, when you depart from God, when you go your own way in life. Maybe you know what not having the song is like.

Maybe you’re like Lot, you traded the Lord’s song in for money, for security, for friends, for prosperity in Sodom. Lot’s life has no song, bad decisions in life took that song out of his heart. What are you doing that’s taken your song? There is NO better song than the song of redemption and being right with God and living to his honour and glory… Solomon’s song was THE Song of songs. Satan’s got a world of lies for you, an album of tunes for you, all which leave you empty and in darkness and despair.

The new song comes from a new heart. The new song comes from the new birth. Picture Moses and Israel singing thanks unto their God who gloriously triumphed over Pharaoh and his armies. A salvation and deliverance they had longed for, a salvation and deliverance from slavery, from bondage, from the old master who did not love them, who did not care for them, who used them up and afflicted them. Having a song in your heart is not a cliche. Elihu said in the book of Job “Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night”. Is a song in the night something you’re interested in? When you’ve got the Lord’s song, you have it in the night.

Your life can be a melody to God. It can be a tune of salvation, of grace, of mercy, of thankfulness. When you get in tune with God, your life will be a song to the Lord. Songs keep you going don’t they. Songs lift you up. So many Christians have no song, because they’ve got nothing to sing about, they have no salvation, they have no forgiveness, they have no grace. There will be a new song when Jesus Christ returns and rules and reigns. The earth will sing as it no more suffers under the weight and bondage of sin. If the earth sings after the rain, how much more so will this earth sing for the reign of the righteous and faithful and true Lord of glory?

Hopefully you desire a new song today. The Lord’s song is the song of songs. There is nothing better than being saved and being right with God. There is nothing better than obeying him, trusting him, hoping in him, and serving him. You can settle for a different tune if you want, but you’ll be settling for less. Solomon’s was the song of songs, and if you read his song and look at his life, you’ll realize he often settled for far less. He loved many strange women, but they took his song. They weren’t the ones he sung about, none of them were his song of songs. Going your own way in disobedience to God is settling for far less than you can have with the Lord. It is worth it being saved, it is worth it being right with God, his song is worth it.

Many people aren’t ready to forsake a tune of a disobedient life. Christians like their new music because it plays to their flesh, and you’re enjoying your flesh too much, but you do not have the Lord’s song. You do not know the song of being redeemed by the Lord. May you finally come to an end of your song and ask Lord to give you a new song, his new song that comes with a new heart and a new life. Get in tune with God, it’s a good song, it’s the greatest song, it’s the song of songs. May we all ask God to give us a new song, to give us the Lord’s song, because we’re finally done with our old one.
