We’ll See How It Comes Out In The Wash
Genesis 8:13 “And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.”
Genesis 8:14 “And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.”
Genesis 8:15 “And God spake unto Noah, saying,”
Genesis 8:16 “ Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.”
Hello readers we’ll see how it comes out in the wash! Maybe you’ve heard this saying before, maybe you haven’t, but it’s a pretty common saying in my country.
In truth, we’ve already seen what comes out in the wash. Back in Genesis 6 to Genesis 8, we read in the Bible about the story of Noah’s ark and the flood. The world literally was a wash.
What came out in the wash? Noah and his family, Noah a man who “being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.”
Consider what happened here, man was wicked, God pronounced judgment, God gave a whole lot of time and a way to be delivered from his wrath. Only one man believed God, only one man trusted God.
And God’s word came true. When we talk about how things are going to come out in the wash… Job said “…when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” So what comes out in the wash, what is going to be true and abide and remain for all time after this whole thing is done is God’s word and those who trusted God’s word.
Remember back to when the flood came, and this planet was flooded with a huge amount of water that only one man and his family and the animals he brought in the ark with him survived. Global cataclysm! Oh you believe Noah’s flood you dummy they say. Hey, there’s abundant proof for a global flood.
And it’s kind of ironic, because people scoff at Noah’s flood and that global catastrophe and end of world event… while our world right now is obsessed with guess what? The end of the world! Climate change and extinction. They don’t believe in God flooding the world but they believe humans driving some cars around will be the end of the world. Hmm.
Sustainability, sustainability! Well guess what is not sustainable? An unsaved soul. That is not sustainable. It will not be forever. Back in Noah’s day they ate and drank and married… and nothing was wrong with that in and of itself… but their wickedness and rejection of God and ignorance of God’s word and warnings therein was not sustainable. And they were not sustained… the flood came and destroyed them all.
Forgive me if I haven’t clarified this idiom “what comes out in the wash” sooner”. Perhaps you’ve heard the saying “oh that’s a wash”, it’s a saying that refers to wasted time and wasted effort. Obviously it’s slang, but it’s actually fairly commonly used. If someone fails at something they try to do, we may say they washed out doing it. We can even say we feel washed out if we’re not feeling well.
And then there is the other saying “see how it comes out in the wash” and people usually say that to say “the truth will come out in the end” and “see how it ends up” and “problems will be solved in the end”. Hopefully this makes sense. There’s a lot of ideas, philosophies, opinions, agendas, everything going on planet earth at the moment… but how is it all going to come out in the wash? And God doesn’t leave us wondering, if you’ve read your Bible, you already know and have an example of how it will come out in the wash.
That’s why I’ve referenced Noah’s flood. The world was literally a wash. Everything was washed away. People. Homes. Business. Jobs. Lives. Sounds rough hey. And it was. So you better have something that is wash proof. And what is wash proof? What remains after it comes out the wash? You better have the real article, you better have salvation in Jesus Christ.
What came out in the wash in Noah’s day was God’s word. God’s word was right. God’s word was right in judgment. God’s word was right in justice. God’s word was right in mercy. God’s word was right in salvation. And the guy that believed and obeyed God’s word came out with it. So who came out in the wash? Noah.
And not just him, but so everyone who trusts in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour will come out in the wash in the end. Those that feared God, those that believed God, those that obeyed God, they’ll be proven right, they’ll be vindicated, because they trusted Christ.
Really in this life we may not see it too clearly at the moment, it’s a big bad world out there, there’s lots of powers at play, lots of agendas, lots of truths, lots of claims, but who and what will out in the end?
You see, the whole Bible builds up to the book of Revelation, and the climax of good versus evil, and the story of mankind that has been told for thousands of years. But we know how it all comes out in the wash. We know Satan gets cast into the lake of fire. We know that all the wicked and evil gets punished. We know that judgment comes to this earth finally.
So all that remains to be seen is how you personally will come out in the wash. Maybe you’re doing ok in your sin at the moment, but the only thing between you and the reality of hell is time. Surely that bothers you.
Yes I would agree that it seems like evil always seems to triumph. I feel a bit like in Malachi 3:15 “And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.” I think every godly person has had this confusion about what on earth, literally, is God doing down here. Things seem upside down, things don’t seem equal and just. But God’s ways are not our ways, his thoughts are not our thoughts, and he’s working a work here which we cannot even begin to grasp, not just in our own personal lives, but also the bigger picture in lives and this world around us.
But rest assured, there’s going to be another wash, and those who reject Jesus will wash out, and those who trusted Jesus will come out in the wash. That’s what you need to know and trust. It will pay in the end. There is a big pay off coming, maybe you struggle to see it through the injustices and inequalities in this world… but Jesus Christ promised to return, and there is going to be kingdom change. So hopefully you are or do get on the right side of this thing, because there’s only one side that wins in the end, and it’s Jesus Christ, and all those with him, as in truly with him. Make sure in the end, that your life isn’t a wash when God’s word comes out in the wash.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 32 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
