Rivers Of Living Water
John 7:37 “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
John 7:38 “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
John 7:39 “ (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
These are wonderful verses in the Bible, and if you are a Christian, hopefully these verses are your reality!
Getting saved is taking a drink of the water of eternal life afforded by and found only in Christ Jesus, and Jesus is a fountain of water in you that never runs dry. He is old faithful, and his water of life springs forth inside you, flowing through your life and affecting all those around you.
I hope you’ve had a drink of his life giving water! I hope you’ve trusted in Jesus Christ as your Saviour “In that day there shall be a fountain opened…” Now would be a good day as any to take a drink for yourself, the fountain is still open for business as our little day of life in this world ticks on by!
But maybe you’re trying to satisfy that deep thirst within through everyone and everything else, and there are plenty of watering holes in this world to try your luck, eventually to find they’re all broken cisterns that don’t hold water.
Maybe this is you, spiritually withered and dry and wanting more “my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is”
It’s sad that many professing Christians! these days have no flow in themselves and out towards others… and there is no outflow, because the river does not flow within.
The old hymn says “Praise God the Spirit who’s the flow” … and spiritual life within is the key to the Christian life. To live “Christian” and do “Christian” things without the Holy Spirit is an awful drudge and drear yet many attempt it.
You cannot make yourself flow, the flow is either there or not depending on whether the Holy Spirit resides in you or not. Without faith and obedience to Christ, you will not have that flow. God described Canaan to the nation of Israel as a “a land flowing with milk and honey” and that is what the promised Christian life should be… flowing, despite the evils of this world.
The Holy Spirit is only committed to those who have committed to God’s Son in repentance and faith… and he saves, he seals, and he sanctifies… and he is the oil that makes the Christian engine purr. You’ll burn out otherwise.
Many claim the Spirit, but there are many false spirits in this world, where the Holy Spirit is there will always also be people that love truth, righteousness, judgment, God’s word, mercy, grace, compassion, purity… holiness.
Someone with the Holy Spirit flowing through their life is unmistakable, rivers of living water flow out of them… and Jesus said it comes from out of their belly, because the belly is where the food goes, and if your food is the word of God, and you’ve been feeding on God’s word… the Holy Spirit will use the spiritual words to transform your heart and life and those around you.
The Bible says “There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.” Has he made you glad? Has he made a holy place in you? Are you a tabernacle for God in this world?
And did you know that there still is that river? Maybe it’s stream has reached you… but maybe you still will not partake, maybe you still have hope in something better, a little like Namaan the Syrian, who said “Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel?”
But don’t say you didn’t have a chance. There was a river in the garden of Eden in Genesis 2 that parted and became four heads… it reached out everywhere… the invitation to come to Christ has reached all the way out to you… Christ’s river ran through 2024 as it has all of human history…
… and there still is healing, help, and hope in his stream.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 33 y/o Bible Blogger from Adelaide, South Australia. God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to share it with others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s Jesus Christ’s faith far more than my own! Because he is faithful. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and by God’s grace I anchor my soul to it. My destination is heaven. As they say, this world is not my home, I’m just a passin’ through… although most of the time I feel more like I’m hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports, I currently work on an orchard and one of my main hobbies/interests is growing vegetables. I love writing. I’m always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment on my blog or through email! My blog is inspired by Isaiah 2, and Isaiah’s vision of the last days when all nations will flow unto the Lord’s house, in a future time where everyone will love to hear God’s word and walk in light of Lord. And it is my hope that my blog will “strengthen the brethren” and “feed my sheep” as Jesus told Peter. Whether you visit once or regularly, I hope my blog is of some benefit to you on your journey of life! It’s a long journey, but with Christ you will make it to the other side. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
Thank you as always. Amen. Meeting with a lost guy in a few hours and might bring up a few points from this blog post. What a blessing!
