Build Your Armory

2 Chronicles 32:2 – And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,

2 Chronicles 32:3 – He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city: and they did help him.

2 Chronicles 32:4 – So there was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?

2 Chronicles 32:5 – Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.

Hello readers, there’s something for us Christians to learn from Hezekiah’s life. And that is… build your armory. We read in the Bible that Hezekiah strengthened himself. Man we need to take notice of this. Are we in a time of weak, feeble and pathetic Christianity or what? And it is imperative that strengthen ourselves to face up to the battle that has come to us. We need to be strong, because weak Christianity just isn’t going to cut it in 2022. We need to be strong on what God’s word has said, we need to be strong on the fundamentals of the faith, we need to be strong on right and wrong, we need to be strong in grace and love and truth.

The battle came to Hezekiah. He didn’t seek it out. But it found him nonetheless. Maybe you didn’t seek the conflict of the Christian life out, but it found you. Or it will. If it hasn’t, it’s because you aren’t worth Satan and this world fighting yet, because you aren’t walking in Jesus Christ’s steps. Every single person that follows Christ has to take up a cross. That cross is a cross of rejection, persecution, betrayal, self sacrifice, enduring lies and being hated even while you love people. The Bible teaches clearly that anyone that believes in Jesus Christ and determines to follow him in their life will be in a battle. You cannot avoid the good fight of faith. And if we are in a fight, we need to build our armory.

We need to strengthen ourselves and we need to have some stuff in our armory to fight the battle. Christianity isn’t for losers. And Christians shouldn’t be losing, as they are. We are on the winning side. Christ won remember. He defeated death, hell, Satan… he is the winner. Paul likened the Christian life to being in a race… and guess what, in races, people win. Instead of constant defeat and constant retreat and constantly being run over by the lies of Satan, by sin in our lives and all the garbage in this world… how about we set ourselves for the battle, how about we prepare for the warfare, how about we invest in this thing so we can defend where we need to defend, and attack where we need to attack. In warfare you need some defense and you need some offense. So often we are “apologetic” for what the Bible says… but there is nothing to be sorry for or to conceal… the Bible is the truth. Stop apologizing and get to know the Bible for yourself so you’re not the clueless Christian and some unsaved deceiver has a better handle on scripture than you to trample you with.

You need to put your shield up when needed, and guess what, you need to stick a few darts at the enemy when needed too. A shield is for defense, but the darts are for offense. And Hezekiah had both… and heaps of them. He had them in abundance! Hezekiah sure built his armory. He got himself ready for the Syrian army. Don’t expect to not read your Bible and then be magically ready for the battle of life. You won’t be. That enemy will hit you where you didn’t see it coming, nor how you saw them coming. You don’t have the capacity to win this battle without Christ. He is our victory, and he’s given us the tools to build our armory so we can stick a shield of faith up when required and thrust a dart of infallible truth when required.

The war came to Hezekiah’s life… and he quickly realized he had to strengthen himself. Hey we are not ready for this, we need to get ready. Hey we are not armed, we need to get armed. Hey we’ve got holes in our defenses… where are the holes in your life? Where is that hole of disobedience and compromise? Where is the hole in your defense? Some things had also been broken down. Over time walls had gone to ruin, they hadn’t been maintaining their walls. What needs a bit of maintenance that has slipped in your life? We need to stop some things that need stopping, we need to build some things that need built, we need to raise some things up that need to be raised up and we need to repair some things that need to be repaired. If we don’t do this, we might as well chuck in the white flag. So what are you going to do? Send conditions of a surrender to Satan or build your armory and trust God?

To get ready for warfare, first we need to do an honest analysis of our life. Stop looking externally and start looking internally. Proverbs 20:27 “The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.” Get some light on your own life and do some honest evaluating in the light of God’s word. See where you are not prepared, not ready… see where you are compromised and lacking… see what needs to be done. Before Nehemiah built those walls he did some reconnaissance, he went and had a look at what needed to be done. So do we need to.

Hezekiah understood the importance of walls. And the Bible calls salvation a wall. When you get saved there’s some walls that go up. Walls keep in what needs to be kept in, and also keep out what needs to be kept out. Where is the line of separation that Christians should have? It’s gone. Because the wall is broken down. And when the wall is down, you are unprotected, you are not safe. We often have stuff streaming into our life because the walls have gone to ruin. We should put a wall up to lies and ungodliness and compromise. That stuff doesn’t need to be in our life, ruining our lives. We need to put something outside of our walls, stuff that doesn’t belong in our heart needs to be put out. How was Hezekiah going to mount a defense with great big holes in the wall for enemy to pour through? The answer is he wasn’t. There will be no defense, much less holding the line in your life, if your walls are down.

It’s not good enough to have walls mostly right… it’s where they aren’t which matters. You can do a lot of things right in your life, but where it’s not right is what will get you. Where the wall is down, that little part in your life which you haven’t surrendered to God, that little sin, that little compromise… that is what will compromise your entire defense.

So what really got me on this train of thought was where the Bible says  Hezekiah “made darts and shields in abundance”. I’ve just seen in my life how Christians don’t have an abundance of darts and shields in their lives. They’ve got nothing in their armory. They’re feeble, fragile, defenseless and they’re conquered as well. See, instead of holding out, instead of keeping the faith, instead of standing… they’ve become assimilated into the enemy of the cross portfolio. They’re another defeated city. They’ve been conquered by lies, by compromise and by this world… and their life is tribute to Sennacherib… not to Christ. Our life should not be furthering Satan’s kingdom, our life should be investing in the kingdom of God… the eternal kingdom.

When we talk to people, when we are out in this world, we should not lack for shields and darts. We should be able to do some warfare. There is not going to be peace with this world, in this world. Sorry, but there just isn’t. You’ll only get peace with this world when you change… because you won’t be changing them, rest assured. It’s the Christians who are changing what they believe, not the world changing what they believe. Jeremiah 2:11 ” Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.” We are the ones changing… and we’ve gotta stop changing our God for their gods to get along with this stuff.

So again the message today is… build your armory. Instead of us getting run over by the ungodly, the wicked, the reprobate, the backsliders, the disputers, the deniers, the doubters, the scorners… why can’t we fight? We should have a good armory, not being on the run, put to shame, confounded, embarrassed, exposed and defeated. As a Christian it is not optional or recommended… it is mandatory to have a good armory. After you are saved, you need to be strengthened. The Holy Spirit does that in our lives, and we really need to get our roots down in truth. Equip your Christian life with reading your Bible, praying and obeying God in your life. That’s how we strengthen ourselves. Because we have no strength, Christ is our strength. They’ll be saying… where is his strength, and won’t be able to find it, because it’s not big muscles, it’s power with God Jacob turned Israel style. Our weaponry is not carnal, physical and worldly means, our weaponry is “thus saith the Lord” and a life prepared and paved with prayer. So often we are trying to fight the battle with the wrong weapons. And we get spoiled by Satan because we’re doing it all wrong… just read Colossians and 2 Corinthians.

We have been given everything we need by God, but how many of us use it? To fight a spiritual battle, we need spiritual weapons. The Bible is our spiritual weapon, but if we are not reading it, we will have nothing to fight with. Imagine a soldier out on the battlefield with no sword, how useless is he? So build your armory. You know, modern Christianity seems to have been sanitized of the whole “warfare” concept. They’ve washed that part out of it. Newsflash, this world doesn’t want peace with Christ. They hated him and against him. You’ll never find a place of agreement and compromise. Christianity is going to bring a fight. It brings a cross after all, a cross which Jesus Christ said if you don’t take up yours… you cannot follow him.

And the Bible still says in Jeremiah 48:10 ” Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood.” Your deceitful and bloodless little religion is cursed. Modern Christianity has no warfare anymore because there is no wall of separation or separate identity of saved and unsaved, godly and ungodly. They’re of the world, so why would the world fight them? They’re all about get along with everyone and being seeker friendly and yoking up with this world. But Biblical faith is still a fight. And we need to kick this thing into to gear, we have a battle, this is a wicked and dark world, Satan wants to keep people in darkness, and he’s going to fight anyone that will live godly. Rest assured. Maybe you didn’t choose the battle, but boy it sure will find you.

So finally… build your armory. Hezekiah did. Read about Uzziah, he sure did! These godly kings were prepared to fight so when the battle came, they wouldn’t be conquered. They had weapons, they had walls, they  had darts and shields… they were strong and ready for battle. And you as a Christian need to ready yourself as much as possible for your journey of life. You know, if someone sees the walls up… they’re less likely to invade. If they know you’re well armed, they’re likely to leave you alone and not mess with you. We wouldn’t be in half the bad state we were if we had just done a bit of bare minimum strengthening of ourselves. But when the enemy comes, if he sees no defense, no nothing, like the Danites when they came into Laish of the Zidonians, you’re going to be steamrolled. God is not going to reward you being careless, ignorant, stupid… he gave you a brain, he gave you the wisdom of his word so you can be prudent and wise… prepared… and so you could build your armory.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 30 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
