Come Ye After Me
Mark 1:16 – Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
Mark 1:17 – And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
Hello readers, new blog today. A simple thought from Mark 1… come ye after me. You know, life can get quite complicated and we can get so caught up in things, and lose our way completely… and we can just not do this most simple thing that Jesus requires of us. All you can do in your life is what you can do. You cannot control others. We often try controlling things we have no control over. We wear ourselves out. We need to let go and let God have it. And what we need to do is instead follow Jesus Christ. That’s what we can do. That’s what’s in our power to do. That’s our responsibility. Don’t turn to the right, don’t turn to the left, follow Jesus.
In my day to day job I get to talk about the Bible to others. When you know the truth you have a burden to share it. God’s word is truth, and it can be like a burning fire shut up in our bones. But it doesn’t mean other people will agree with it or like it. In fact many people reject truth. Many people go this way and that way. But we can’t change that. It takes God to make a change in someone’s life. Many people try to disciple others to themselves… but that’s not we are meant to do. We are not meant to make people follow us, why should they follow us anyway? We need salvation as much as they. We need to go after Jesus Christ ourselves, and point others to him. Let Jesus do the rest. A Christian is meant to point others to Christ. Being a Christian is being Christlike… we shouldn’t be trying to make images of our own corruptible self.
If you want to become a “fisher of men”, if you want to impact those around you, you must go after Christ first yourself. As Paul told Timothy, the husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits. You’ve gotta be saved first in order to have something to share. You have to know God’s word as truth in order to hold it forth to others. The Bible says in Hebrews… looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. So often we take our eyes off the prize. So often we get way off the beaten track, we lose perspective, we lose the plot. Follow Jesus Christ. That’s what Jesus told us to do.
Jesus said… come ye after me, and I will make you fishers of men. In going after Christ, your life will speak volumes to those you come in contact with. I don’t have the power to save someone. I don’t have the power to convince someone. I don’t have the power to make someone born again. That’s the domain of God. Of Jesus Christ… who is God. Why do we try doing what only God can do? Follow Jesus Christ in your life, and you’ll be amazed with what God can do with a life that is focused towards him.
We are in a raging pandemic at the moment… and what do we need to do? Jesus said, come ye after me. Just believe in Jesus Christ and obey him how you now how according to the word of God. We all have different backgrounds, circumstances and lives… but we have all been given light. Jesus has lighted every man that has come into the world. We are without excuse. We can know truth and we should know truth. Follow Jesus Christ. Keep your eyes on him. Peter was walking on water when he had his eyes on Christ walking towards him… but he started to sink when he took his eyes off Jesus and looked at the waves and began to fear. What will sink your life? Stopping following Jesus Christ. Or choosing not to follow him to begin with.
If you want to have a positive impact on people around you, a real, lasting eternal impact… follow Jesus Christ. That’s the only way you will. To be a fisher of men means you are catching men out the sea. The sea of this world, a world that’s in darkness, judged, and going to hell … fishing for men is people getting saved. Do you want to see others get saved around you? Do you want to see people you know go to heaven… or burn in hell? Do you want to see others around you walking in truth… or living a lie? What must you first do. Jesus said, come ye after me. Follow Jesus Christ. There’s a wonderful simplicity to it all, get to know the Lord Jesus Christ of the Bible, and follow him. Jesus said his yoke is easy and his burden is light. We can get so burdened and bogged own, we can lose our focus, we can lose our way… the way back is by turning back to Jesus Christ, and following him in our own lives. Get right with him, and point others to him… he is the Saviour.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 32 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
