They Knew Not

Matthew 24:37 – But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Matthew 24:38 – For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

Matthew 24:39 – And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Hello all, new blog today. “They Knew Not”… well… there’s plenty of things that we don’t know. Hopefully today you and I do not fall into this category. Because there are things we should know, and we are without excuse for not knowing. God is the God of knowledge, he wants us to know things, and if you go to hell, it’ll be your own fault. They knew not… well it applies to saved and unsaved people alike. We all need to start knowing things. We all suffer from a lack of knowing things. And it hurts our lives. The Bible says in Psalms… thy word have i hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee. We need to know things, and know them in our heart. It’s time to actually “know” things, not know ABOUT them, or know OF them, it’s time to know them. If you don’t know, if you choose ignorance, it’s not because things can’t be known… but more because we choose not to know things, because the truth doesn’t suit us, or fit into what we think it should be, or fails to meet our expectations and what we think and want it to look like… we REJECT knowledge, it’s not that it’s not available to us. You’re not going to stand before God and accuse him, you will stand before God and have nothing to say. Judgement won’t be a time of negotiation and compromise with God, it will be a time of tears and terror as our finished lives are judged and weighed in the balances… thank God for saved people (who come not to a judgement of their soul but of their works), we have the promise that although we waste our lives, God will wipe our tears away.

We are all sinful, fallen human beings in mortal dying frames. We don’t see well, we don’t know much. We are so naked and helpless. We have all sinned, we are all sinners, we all sin. It’s not a copout and it doesn’t justify further sin, but that’s the fact. We can think we know stuff, we are quick to spout out our opinion and do things our own way, but we don’t know anything. If we could truly see many things, if we could see the spirit world and hell… but many things are only seen by faith in God’s word… our lives would dramatically change, but most of us are and STAY truly blind, deaf, dumb our whole lives… in the spiritual sense. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom the Bible says. The Bible says to fear God and depart from evil. The smartest thing you’ll do is fear God and get right with God, get some priorities right in your life, take care of your salvation today. Jesus is LORD, he is worthy of our fear, our worship, our praise. We need to start actually knowing things today. We should actually come to an understanding of things, get rooted and built up in truth … rather than being “ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth” as the Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:7. We need to stop being reprobate to truth, destitute of truth, we can get so upside down in our thinking… and if you don’t accept truth, all that’s left for you is lies and delusion. We need to KNOW things. I do, you do. We need to stop sleeping and AWAKE. It is high time, the Bible says. Time is running out. It’s not a scare tactic, it should scare us, but it’s just the truth.

We all know nothing. We are all on the same level. We are helpless, we are all lost, we all need saving. Humanity (each of us) in it’s proud, independent, self sufficient state wants to know everything, and prides itself on it’s knowledge. We think we’ve got it all figured out and sorted. We are pretty good aren’t we? But the Bible says there is a way which seemeth right to a man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death. Don’t trust yourself, trust God. We actually know nothing. And when we walk according to our own knowledge we get into trouble, it’s a matter of time, a ticking timebomb. Read these verses! Proverbs 3:5-7 – Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

The truth is, God has released us from the burden of knowing everything. We don’t have to know everything, and we don’t. There’s many things we don’t know and don’t need to know yet, or that just need to be taken by faith. You don’t have to be a know it all to be very smart and wise. And once you get saved and get in the word, you’ll start knowing things as the Holy Spirit teaches you. What’s important to know? What do we need to know? What we all need to know is how to get saved. We need to know what God says. And we can know. That’s what’s most important. God makes things known to us in his word and via the illumination of the Holy Spirit. It’s Jesus Christ that is all knowing. He is God. The Bible says in Jesus Christ are hid all treasures of wisdom and knowledge. It’s not what we know, but it’s what he knows. It’s comforting that he knows everything. He’s got it sorted, after all he is God, he is the Creator. This doesn’t mean we are idiots or fools, because there are many things we can and should know. And we are all without excuse. And we should grow in knowledge. A Christian who doesn’t grow is a Christian who is a shame and ashamed. 2 Timothy 2:15 – Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

There are things we don’t need to know, there are things we can’t know, we do see through a glass darkly, but then face to face. And then shall we know even as we are known. It says that in 1 Corinthians 13. This is a life of faith. Do you trust God? Is your faith in him? Is his word good enough for you? Do you take him at his word? Or do you call him a liar? His word isn’t good enough, accurate enough, he can’t articulate himself to you? You audacious enough to tell him what he means because he’s an idiot that can’t get his word to you? We are all nothing, we need God’s knowledge and wisdom. It’s found in his word. We need to stop kidding ourselves, our own knowledge is pathetic, don’t you want to get your knowledge from your Creator, the one who designed it all? The one who knows how the story ends? The one who sees the future? How stupid are we! The Bible says in James if we want wisdom and knowledge… we need but ask. And if we ask, we shall receive. God WANTS us to know things, to be prepared. Knowledge is nothing to get puffed up about. The Bible says we have NOTHING that we did not receive. And when we actually begin to understand and know things, it’s then we begin to understand the vastness of how much we do not know! When God spoke to Job, Job saw how much he had darkened counsel by reason of words without knowledge. He just simply shut up after God spoke to him, he said he would lay his hand upon his mouth, he said I am vile, he abhorred himself and repented in dust and ashes…. read for yourself what God said to Job after so many verses of back and forward justifications and reasonings between Job and his “friends” as to why such bad things had happened to Job. Job had struggled with pride, he was struggling with reasoning … why and how could this happen to him!? But he realized just how far off track he was, he surrendered his knowledge to God’s knowledge … and Job was a far better, smarter man than all of us probably are.

So how does anyone know anything? We can get to such a reprobate state, we say, just as Pilate said… what is truth? Hopefully we don’t get there. There is worldly knowledge and wisdom and then Godly knowledge and wisdom. Jesus said the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. This is very true (of course!)… but worldly wisdom has an expiry date, you can live a very smart, full life here, but without being saved, without storing up treasure in heaven, without living for eternity, without walking circumspectly, without redeeming the time, without remembering your Creator in your youth… ultimately you will say like Solomon (who had and did everything) found out … Vanity! Vexation of spirit! Waste! There was a man who filled his barns and felt pretty good about himself and the future and God said Thou fool… this night thy soul shall be required of thee. Often unsaved people can be and behave a lot smarter than supposedly saved people. Particularly in day to day life… saved people today behave really dumb! Saved people need to smarten up, particularly in their Christian walk… Jesus said be as wise as serpents and harmless as doves. There is worldly knowledge and then there is Godly knowledge. Worldly knowledge goes only so far, eternally and spiritually it is foolishness and temporal. Lots of unsaved people get it made in life, they have a great life, but they die and go to hell, their best life and investment is here and now, but beyond death it is meaningless and utter vanity and waste. What does it profit you living it up now, only to die and be eternally in hell in pain, restlessness, wailing, weeping, gnashing your teeth? Your few years of fun will be quickly irrelevant the second you wake up in hell, as the rich man did, who woke up in torments.

God says in the Bible that “my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”. And saved and unsaved people today are being destroyed left, right and center. How many torched lives, torched walks with God, destroyed because they just don’t know anything. Because they didn’t know better and fell into bad sin, bad decisions, and ruined their lives. “They knew not”. So many woefully under prepared people. The Bible says prepare to meet thy maker… are you ready? But instead we all know nothing. Just like the Bible says “knowing not what they say nor whereof they affirm”. Where do you get your understanding and knowledge from … ie. where are you affirming from? God and his word is where knowledge is found and through the illumination and teaching of the Holy Spirit to our hearts, it takes root in our heart and is not just head and intellectual knowledge, but heart knowledge, faith, and belief and life and wisdom to a saved person. Without getting well set on the foundation of God’s word you will have no foundation to stand on… and hence not knowing where you affirm anything from. What is right and wrong? And why? What’s true and what is not? Your life will be all over the shop, weak, powerless, lacking authority. Because God’s word is the authority. His word is truth. If you are affirming things in your such as right and wrong, positions on things, the way you live and so on based on the shifting sands of new Bibles, worldly philosophy, and compromised, worldly, shallow, empty, vain religion… well then you are going to waver, and be tossed around by every wind of doctrine, fooled by the sleight of man. Easily deceived. You are no match for the world, the flesh, the devil. God’s word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. It will guide you home, God’s word is the faithful true light. Just as Jesus, the Word of God, is. God’s word is our spiritual food, you will not spiritually grow without feeding on it. You will stay a babe, you’ll waste out in the wilderness and never grow up in the faith, you won’t grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus. It is a shame for a Christian not to grow, to perish out in the wilderness, to never cross the Jordan and get to the real battles and obtain the promises that God has for us on this side of eternity.

We need to start knowing things spiritually… which is really KNOWING something (after all the spiritual world is more real than the physical world, and it is eternal!)… and we first of all need to be made spiritually alive… we need our minds to be made alive and renewed by the Holy Spirit to know the things of God. Read 1 Corinthians 2. The Bible says an unsaved person cannot know or receive the things of God. If the Bible, God, God’s ways, God’s wisdom, the gospel, Jesus, the cross, the blood is gobbledy gook and meaningless and redundant to you maybe it’s because you are just not saved. Or maybe you’ve spent so much time in the flesh, in carnal living, you’re so spiritually weakened by feeding on the wrong stuff, by drinking at the wrong watering hole your whole life. Jesus said to Nicodemus that unless we are born again we cannot see or enter the kingdom of God. It’s true today. Is the kingdom of God a mystery to you?

Unsaved people and even unsaved Christians (you can live as a Christian and not actually be saved… to be a “Christian” is not enough, you must repent and believe and be born again! truly saved!)… well to them things of the kingdom of God are stupid, they know it not. A bit like Jesus who came, and the Bible says they knew him not, they received him not, they didn’t get what he was saying. An unsaved person has a very finite knowledge base, they can be incredibly worldly wise, but absolute fools spiritually. Because ultimately we all die, and then what. Naked we came into this world, naked we depart. We are in a generation which “knows not” a lot of things. Even Christians who don’t know anything, because they’re not in God’s word. Filling your head and heart with God’s word is what will give you wisdom and knowledge. Wisdom is crying out today, she is in the street (Proverbs) saying how long ye simple ones will ye love simplicty! Wisdom and knowledge and understanding is crying out to you today! You don’t need to be a fool, but you will be.

We see today a generation ripe for the return of Jesus Christ. But a generation completely unprepared. It will come as a thief in the night. If only people watched and prayed! Jesus said when he comes back… will he find faith? In the final letter to the final church, Jesus says behold I stand at the door and knock. Is he outside your life? Is he knocking on the door of your heart? In Noah’s day they were eating, drinking, marrying, giving in marriage, going along in life… and then one day the flood came, and they KNEW NOT!!! until the flood came and took them all away. Most people only know things when it’s too late. You can know things NOW. We can make good decisions before we get burned. We have God’s word to us today. You don’t need to find things out at judgement when it’s too late to reverse your wasted life. Even in practical life, right here, right now, we can set things right, just by getting a little knowledge from God’s word. By obeying and submitting to God’s word’s authority. Why wait till when it’s too late to repent and believe and change your fate? You don’t have to finally see and comprehend Jesus when you are kneeling before him, just before you are cast into the lake of fire which burns forever and ever. The people of Noah’s day only knew something when the ark was sealed shut, there was no escape. God will close the door on you one day, maybe already he has. God reserves the right to stop convicting you and giving you chances to be saved. Salvation is his to offer, and his to retract. He doesn’t owe you, his creation, anything. You don’t “born again” yourself, salvation belongs unto the Lord. If the Holy Spirit is finished with you, you can’t get born again, you can’t get saved. This doesn’t negate your free will and choice, the Father draws you, yet you refuse… and what’s stopping you right now from getting right with God? Why not get saved today or pray to God or just finally get honest with him? Talk to him. I’m sure they were banging on the door of the ark, clawing for a way in… that old fool Noah was right!! But too late. It is scary.

When Jesus was in Gethsemane, he told his disciples to watch and pray. And we’ve got to watch and pray, now more than ever… lest we enter into temptation. All over the world Christians falling, living in sin, who will be ashamed before Jesus at his coming. We live a lot like the 5 foolish virgins, who were not ready for their Lord and who got shut out. Will you be shut out? A life of religion and spent around the fringes of truth and Christianity, only to be rejected at the last. Who may find out they’re not even saved at all. Many will say Lord, Lord!! But they will be rejected. Who will be speechless. There won’t be any fooling, there won’t be anyone out of place. Everyone will go to their own place, be it hell or heaven. Because today, we are all living in our own place, for a saved person we are already seated in heaven! NOW are we the sons of God. We are saved NOW. But for an unsaved person God is angry with you, the wrath of God abides upon you, hell beneath is anticipating your coming, her mouth is widening and enlarging without measure to receive you and the masses who reject Jesus Christ. As you are now, so will you be. So what are you right now? Revelation 22:11 – He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.

It is a scary thing. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of a living God. We are in perilous last times today. Prophecy, God’s word, is being fulfilled today. Look at the increase in racial tension, nations rising up against nations, the increase in catastrophes and disasters, weather phenomenon, wars and rumours of wars like with the North Korea and nuclear warfare… Israel back in the land as a nation. Yes, people have been saying these are the end times for many, many years. Surely Jesus is coming back soon! And yet he doesn’t seem to. We’ve heard it all before! 2 Peter 3:3,4 – Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. Well where is the promise? Jesus said when the end times signs come to pass to lift up our heads for our redemption draweth nigh. For saved people that is, for unsaved, bad times are coming, there is trouble coming to this earth, we are entering the beginning of sorrows, we are on the shores of a time of trouble the world has never seen and will never see again. Get right with God today, while there is time. It is a good thing to fear God, and to get saved. The people of Noah’s day were so immersed in the pleasures of life, in all the things of life, they just didn’t know. We can get so wrapped up in our lives, our ambitions, our pursuits, our comfort zones, we are just going about the daily routines … and we know not, we are not ready for judgement and wrath that is coming like a freight train. Noah was a preacher… they ignored him… they didn’t receive what he was saying. They scoffed at and put off God’s word… and in so doing sealed their own fate. It is wise to soften to God’s word, to instead of stiffen your neck and harden your heart, to bow to God’s word, to yield and submit, to confess our sins, and Jesus is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. There’s a lot of “knowing not” today. People who don’t know God, who don’t know what the Bible says, who don’t know God’s judgements, his testimony… it’s all there, we are without excuse. Are you part of the “they knew not”? You don’t have to be. Get knowledge, get understanding, get eternally wise, get right with God through his Son Jesus Christ today.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 32 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
