A Joke Jesus
Matthew 27:29 – And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
Hello readers, new blog today, and will be discussing a joke Jesus today. Because we have to determine is he a joke or not? We make him a joke in so many ways in our lives. In talk and deed. We praise God, then we call him a liar as we believe evolution. Either God’s account is true, or throw the Bible out, you don’t even get past Genesis 1:1 before you’re calling God a liar. We bless God with our mouth, then we go out and live a life of cursing him. We say we want truth, but then we reject God’s word. We say we are saved, but then we LOVE sin. We say he is God, then we want to be God. We say we are following Jesus, and live our life our own way. We don’t care about his commandments, but Jesus said, if ye love me, keep my commandments. We have no care for the souls of others, we only care what we can extract from people. We say we are sinners, but then we think we are better than everyone else. We lose our way. 1 Corinthians 13 … without charity I am NOTHING. 1 Peter 4:8 – And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
In the Bible we read that after Pilate sentenced Jesus to be crucified, the Roman soldiers made a big joke of him. In the Bible we read that Jesus was humiliated, he was shamed, he was turned into a big joke. They made him out to be royalty, they bowed the knee to him, they said Hail, King of the Jews! Jesus was turned into a big joke. Think about it, here they are parading him around in royal apparel, with a mean joke crown and all… and they’re all laughing. He saved others, why can’t he save himself? Let his Father save him… IF he will have him!! They wagged their heads at him… all the goody goodys passing by shaking their self righteous heads, just before they went to Pilate to ask that the bodies be taken off the cross because it was the sabbath a HIGH day. The same mob that bayed for his innocent blood in a rage of jealousy, envy, hatred, bitterness… madness! We can be like these people. And he can be turned into a big joke by us today. None of us are exempt. We can do it in many different ways, be honest with ourselves. We like those soldiers can put the crown upon his head, we can put the purple clothes upon him, we can say we love Jesus and follow him, but then in our walk of life we mock him, we deny him. We call him Lord, but he’s not really our Lord at all. He goes out the window first thing. Jesus in the message of the Laodicean church stands OUTSIDE and knocks. We’ve kicked him out, he has no room for us, there is no place for him in our busy, important, justified little lives. We step out church, we close the Bible, and we forget it all just as James said. Because we are hearers NOT doers of the word. Jesus said in the day of judgement that many will say to him Lord, Lord… and he will say depart from me I never knew you… depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire.
We can fool others, but we can’t fool God, God is not mocked, God is not fooled. We can pretend to make him royalty in our life, we can pretend we are bowing the knee to him… but we don’t mean it at all. And it’s all a big joke. And others see it and blaspheme God. Bad people feel justified because so called Christians are a bigger joke than they are. When David sinned with Bathsheba, Nathan the prophet came to him and told him that because of his sin he had caused others to blaspheme God. God became a big joke in Israel. A huge joke. David’s saying all this godly stuff, doing all this godly stuff, then he eyes off another guy’s wife, a guy who was faithful, loyal, of the highest integrity, and he gets him killed to cover up his own sin. God became a big joke to Joab, David sent the letter to Joab with the scheme to knock Uriah off, it had a big effect on Joab… and Joab went to hell because Joab lost respect for David, he had CONTEMPT for David… he took pleasure in killing Absalom, he spoke to David with no respect at all… the sweet psalmist of Israel. That’s why the sword never departed from David’s house. David’s heart was right, but he made a terrible mistake, and many mistakes. That’s life, we all make mistakes. We are earthen vessels, it is only the great treasure in us that matters or is of any worthy. Don’t kid ourselves. People know if its a joke or not. You can claim to be a Christian, but you are just mocking Jesus in your life, living whatever way you want to.
It is you and I that put him on that cross. It is you and I that spit on him, that smote him, that railed on him, that beat him to the point he was unrecognizable as a human being. And it was the religious people, it was those people, the people playing the game, the people claiming that their father was Abraham that were front and center. When will we get serious about our own sin and treachery. Doesn’t matter about anyone else, it only matters where we ourselves stand before God. We each will stand before God alone. We make Jesus the joke yes, but in the end it is us who is the joke. Psalms 2:1-4 – Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. You and I are the joke in the end here. But a bad joke. A sad joke. A joke that doesn’t need to be. Because God is longsuffering, not willing that any should perish. He gives us space to repent. We read in 1 Peter that in the days of Noah the longsuffering of God waited. God is ready and willing to have mercy. God is ready and willing to forgive us our sin. He is ready and willing to forgive our sin and cast them behind his back, to cast them into the depths of the sea. God is willing to work in our lives, but will we let him. Does God have any room to work in our lives. Year after year, and Noah was the butt of all the jokes, he was a preacher of righteousness, and this seemingly stupid idiot was working on a boat that seemingly had no purpose at all.
Jesus called the scribes and Pharisees a generation of vipers. This is how deceitful and wicked man is. We can’t trust ourselves, we need to submit to God’s word and surrender all our reasoning, logic, understanding, our designs, our inventions, our plans, our hopes, our dreams, our will… because we don’t actually know anything… AT ALL. The Bible says IN HIM (Jesus) are found ALL treasures of wisdom and knowledge. We are all liars. You, me, the grand piano… all liars… the Bible says let God be true and every man a liar. Jesus said that out of the treasure of his heart a man speaks. A good man speaks good, a bad man speaks bad. We know people by their fruit. But these people of Jesus’ day were even more wicked and treacherous, they were VIPERS. Jesus said how can you being evil speak good things!? All these people speaking good things… yet their hearts were as far from God as you could possibly imagine. If we looked on the outside, we would be fooled… judge not according to the appearance but judge righteous judgement… God ponders the hearts… God weights the spirits… Jesus said the harlots go into the kingdom of heaven before you… TO THE PHARISEES! Just to clarify… a harlot is a whore… a prostitute… a sex worker… these people received Jesus and Jesus forgave them and changed them. If Jesus can forgive them, can’t we? God didn’t destroy Nineveh when they repented… and Jonah was FURIOUS!!! How can God have grace on them!!! They don’t deserve grace!!! It was the self righteous crowd that didn’t receive Jesus. We need to get off our high horses. Someone married Rahab the harlot of Jericho and she was in the lineage of Jesus. Ruth was a dirty Moabite, a descendant of Lot’s drunken incestuous nights with his daughters, and Boaz married her. Tamar also gets a mention in the Bible in a chapter that the holier than thous pretend is not in the Bible. We can’t soil ourselves with any of this… let’s distance ourselves from this. These people were people who actually received Jesus, who actually had a heart turned to God, ready and willing to receive him and learn of him… these heroes of the Bible who wouldn’t be welcome in our homes, churches and lives today because we have it all so perfect… and here was a sanitized, self righteous viper generation… Abraham is our father!! Moses commanded this and that!! Look at my long prayers and my beautiful clothes and adherence to the law (they didn’t even obey the Bible, they were just keeping a set of human commandments… which annulled the word of God… and they couldn’t even keep that)!! Jesus said if the light that is in you is darkness… how great is that darkness! We see today people blessing and claiming the name of Jesus, but in their lives they mock him. They exalt him, they claim him as Lord of their lives, but their lives do not show it. We can praise God in word, but mock him in our actions. That makes us vipers. You may not mock him in word, but you mock him in what you do.
Here’s the good news… there is a way back. Jesus let them mock him. Jesus laid down his life, he gave it up, noone took it from him. His love for us was that great, his will so yielded to the Father’s will. He took the crown of thorns, he took the purple robe, he took the spitting, he took the shame, he took the beating, he took the curse, he took the rejection, he took the injustice, he took the lies, he took the sin of the world… so you don’t have to. Jesus said ALL manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men… if you want forgiveness, it’s there. Paul was a Christian killer… Jesus saved him and used him mightily. Jesus uses flawed, ugly, broken things. Gideon was a nobody, then God showed up and he was a mighty man of valor. Elijah popped out of nowhere to stand before Ahab and announce a three and a half year drought. Doesn’t matter what mess you are in,have been in, introduce some humbleness and brokenness before God to the situation, and the situation changes. He works all things for good to them that love him. It doesn’t matter what it looks like. Things are not as they appear. You may be expecting a Rachel in your life, but God has slipped you a Leah. God gives you what you NEED, not what you want. He is a good Father to those who are saved, he will guide and direct your life, he draws, he teaches, he chastises us, we endure because he endures forever in us. You may be blessed by God, but then you discover there’s fighting in the womb. What kind of a blessing is that? As Rebekah said… If it be so, why am i thus? Why does life look like this? So God gets the glory. Get back on track with God… the past doesn’t matter, what only matters is right here and now. Is Jesus a joke or not… is he actually on the throne of our lives… in fact which Jesus is even running your life? A golden calf Jesus, or the Lord Jesus Christ of the Bible? John wrote… THIS is the the TRUE God, and eternal life. Is Baal the God, or is the LORD the God? Stop making Jesus a joke, because he isn’t. No man can serve two masters. If you are trying to serve Jesus and have something on the side… you end up hating and making a joke of Jesus in your life. NO lie is of the truth. These soldiers who bowed their knees in utter mockery and scorn of Jesus will wail and weep when they see him again, and they will bow their knees, and scream for mercy as they are hauled off the the lake of fire at the day of judgement. Was it worth it? No it wasn’t. Jesus is not a joke, why make him a joke in your life then?

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 32 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
