This World Or The World To Come?

John 8:23 – And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

Revelation 11:15 – And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

Matthew 13:40 – As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.

The Bible has a lot to say about the world. There is a world that was, the world that we are currently living in, and there is a world that is to come. What world are you living for? What world are you invested in? What world is your home? What world do your hopes and dreams lie in? The Bible says that when we are saved, we become pilgrims, sojourners, strangers in this world. Hebrews says here we have no continuing city, but we seek one to come. When we are saved we are translated. We are translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. We are raised in newness of life with Christ. We are changed, born again. We have a new creature inside us born of the Spirit of God. We become strangers in this world. Our conversation is in heaven. We are seated in heavenly places. Now are we the sons of God. Now we look for our Saviour. We live by faith. We get ready for his return. By God’s grace, we are set apart, sanctified unto God. We don’t want to sin anymore. God’s law is our delight now and not a burden. His commandments are not grievous. We hunger and thirst after righteousness. We love God. We love our brother. We love truth. We look for the blessed hope. We wait patiently for our redemption. We are in this world, but not of this world. We have no agreement with this world. We are a peculiar people. The world knows us not. It knew him not. The world that now is is coming to an end. We can become so heavily invested in this world that we do not see that this world is going to end, this world is going to pass away. This world has an end, and at the end of this world, all unbelievers will be cast into the lake of fire. This is what God says. You don’t need to go there. This does not need to be the end of your story. Be saved. Make sure you are saved. God sorts the wheat from the tares, he knows his own, he is not fooled by anybody and by anything. Even believers can be like Lot in Sodom, who become so invested in this world that they would even prefer to stay, they would be sorry to see the world pass away.

The Bible speaks a lot about the world that we are living in currently. This world is temporal, it has an end. This world consists of vanity. It is temporal. It is under the sun. It is going to pass away. This world has no hope in itself. This world has no hope to give. This world only has death, sickness, suffering, disease, pain, sorrow, emptiness to offer. This world is cursed. It is deceitful. Everything in this world is under the curse. We have and do surely die. Adam sinned. We have all sinned. We are sinners by nature. We are born in sin. Unbelievers are dead in trespasses and sins, totally alienated from God, without life, without hope. We need a Saviour. We have a Saviour. The curse is broken through the Lord Jesus Christ, who became the curse for us. We need to be saved. We need to be in Christ. Blessings are found in him. Life is found in him. Although our physical bodies will pass away, the new man born of the Spirit of God inside us when we are saved will live forever, and we will get a new body. The spirit is most important. God starts with the spirit while the world only deals with the body. Jesus saves our spirit, soul, body. Our salvation is complete, final, and total in him. Jesus said, Ye must be born again.

This world revolves around and caters to the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. These things may please the flesh in the short term, but they work death. The Bible says that the pleasures of sin are only for a season. They are short lived. They do not satisfy. They do not give peace. They end in death. They fool us. Satan is the ruler of this world. The world that we are living in is his kingdom. It is his domain. He is defeated, his days are numbered, but he is still active. He is in his death throes. He knows his time is short. He is going to hell, and he wants to take you with him. You don’t have to go there though. There is a day coming soon when the kingdoms of this world become Christ’s. He will receive them from the Father. He will receive us to himself. He is coming back to reign. We will reign with him. This world is doomed, it is under God’s holy wrath and judgement. This world lies in wickedness. If you are of this world, you will have the same end that this world has. You will perish with this world. Each one of us needs a Saviour who can save us from this world, who can translate us from this world.

The Bible speaks about the world to come. And it is coming. It is sure, it is certain, God has declared it. The world to come is eternal, it has no end. The world to come is marked by righteousness, by peace, by love, by truth. It is a world where the Lord Jesus Christ is reigning. Jesus is the King. He is Lord. He is God. He is the Son of God. Jesus rules in righteousness. He is the perfect judge. There is no corruption in the world to come. Tears are wiped away. The lion will lay down with the lamb. There will be showers of blessing. The deserts will be turned to gardens. Life will replace death. Hope is realized. Faith is fulfilled. Grace is abundant. Truth prevails. The world to come will continue forever. We cannot even begin to comprehend the world to come. Our minds are so corrupted and finite. We cannot comprehend the love of God toward us. It doth not yet appear what we shall be. We see through a glass darkly. We live by faith. Trust God’s word. It is truth. You can be part of the world to come. You can partake in the blessing instead of the curse if you will. The invitation is extended, it is free. Salvation is a gift. Whomsoever will may come.

The Bible says there is nothing new under the sun. The Bible shows us what is going to happen to this world. History is repeated. We have an example. We are without excuse. The Bible has the example of the old world. The old world is the world that was in Noah’s day. The old world was destroyed by the flood. The Bible records that only eight souls were saved by water. Everyone else died. Everyone else perished in the flood. They refused salvation. They were disobedient. They despised the goodness and longsuffering of God. God withdrew his mercy. The flood came because all flesh had corrupted his way on earth. The thought of man was only evil continually. While a flood of water is not coming, as God has promised never to flood the earth again, there is a judgement coming. There is a judgement of fire coming. God will sever the wicked from the just. Every unbeliever will be cast into the lake of fire. The world will be dissolved. This world will pass away. There will be a new heaven and new earth. You can be in this new heaven and new earth. Where you will be depends on whether you receive the Lord Jesus Christ or not, whether you receive his death, burial and resurrection in your place or not. This small space of time, our short existence on earth, which lasts but a moment in the context of eternity, will define our eternal destination. Are you of this world, or do you seek the world to come? Do you need a Saviour? Will you receive your Saviour?

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 30 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – :)
