Do You Have An “Attitude” Toward God?
Ephesians 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:”
Have you developed an attitude toward Jesus Christ?
How do you feel toward God?
Are you angry at him? Are you hard and bitter and unrepentant toward him? Or maybe you’ve just made yourself “indifferent” to him.
Are you in such a state that your soul could really bless the Lord?
Psalm 103, one of my favourite psalms, begins with this verse “Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.”
I don’t know what space you’re in right now, but your attitude toward God can make a big difference to where you are at spiritually.
If you’re down, dark, depressed, dysfunctional and done for… how about just bless the Lord with your soul? You can still do that no matter how bad everything else may be!
Job, in his darkest hour, still blessed the Lord! Odds are none of us have it as bad as he did for a good while there!
Job blessed God not because of circumstances, but because of who God was… and still is.
He is a good God, he does truly love you, he does know what’s best for you, and at the bottom of it all, if he is your Saviour… “underneath are the everlasting arms”.
I hope his arms are what is holding you up… because good luck trying to hold yourself up your whole life!
You might be surprised how much better just pouring out blessing toward God with your soul will make you feel. He’s a real God, who inhabits the praises of his people.
God can give you revival in your darkest hour, sometimes when there is nothing else encouraging or to be encouraged by, we as David did, just encourage ourself in the Lord.
Could your soul bless the Lord right now?
… One thing I’ve noticed through the years, not only in others, but also in myself, is the sour attitude toward God that I can get.
So many people in this world are so angry at God. I’ve met a lot of people who are literally fuming with God.
They deny his existence… but they also hate him, and oppose him in their hearts and with their lives. Everything they do is against him, in spite of him, to spite him.
Even as Christians, as things don’t go away, and series of events acculumate which we hold against God… our attitude to God grows worse and worse.
… are you angry at God? Jonah was, and he was God’s man, so it can happen to any of us… but “doest thou well to be angry?”
In the book of Genesis, Cain had an attitude to God, and that attitude to God caused him to have an attitude to a child of God harsh enough to murder him, and when offered grace, he chose instead to depart from God’s merciful arm to carve out a selfish life for himself free from God’s presence.
Look, your attitude to God, though it is a lot easier when things are peachy, yet it is not dependent on the environment and circumstances.
We mentioned that Job blessed God while he was going through “it”… the problem when you have an attitude to God doesn’t lie in the physical… it is spiritual.
And so the biggest spiritual blessing you may ever receive is God freeing you from that resentful, bitter, hard heart toward him. Satan nursed it, your flesh sows to it, and this world fans it… but that attitude to God that you’ve got must change if you are ever to be saved and enjoy the saved life.
I know people literally choosing hell over heaven and death over life because of their attitude toward God.
So I hope you one day experience the true liberty of being able to lay down that sour heart toward God, and instead bless the Lord, because he is the fount of every blessing.
Or are you going to keep holding on to that bitterness? Will you continue to treasure that resentment and hardness?
Your life will never be the same when God’s grace finally breaks through to give you the power to lay that thing down. Having, knowing and walking with Jesus even in this sin cursed world is living “this is living!”.
It truly is a blessing to bless the Lord! And yes, life can be and will continue to be pretty crappy at times until the regeneration… but God is still good and full of grace in it, and he has been better to us all than we truly deserve.
He saved me from my sins, and if he’s done that for you, even if nothing else goes right from here to glory… we’re still ahead!
and so… Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 33 y/o Bible Blogger from Adelaide, South Australia. God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to share it with others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s Jesus Christ’s faith far more than my own! Because he is faithful. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and by God’s grace I anchor my soul to it. My destination is heaven. As they say, this world is not my home, I’m just a passin’ through… although most of the time I feel more like I’m hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports, I currently work on an orchard and one of my main hobbies/interests is growing vegetables. I love writing. I’m always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment on my blog or through email! My blog is inspired by Isaiah 2, and Isaiah’s vision of the last days when all nations will flow unto the Lord’s house, in a future time where everyone will love to hear God’s word and walk in light of Lord. And it is my hope that my blog will “strengthen the brethren” and “feed my sheep” as Jesus told Peter. Whether you visit once or regularly, I hope my blog is of some benefit to you on your journey of life! It’s a long journey, but with Christ you will make it to the other side.
