For The Record!
1 John 5:11 “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.”
1 John 5:12 “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.”
Hello readers, today I am posting something that I posted on my fb recently, I believe of utmost relevance to myself firstly and to anyone else hungering for truth in this world of lies. “And this is the record” leads off two of the most incredible, needful, authoritative and definitive verses in the Bible.
If you’ve ever heard or used the phrase “for the record”, well, in these verses God is speaking “for the record”.
When people speak “for the record”, they are declaring what they are saying to be factually true and to be publicly and officially known, written down and remembered.
When people “set the record straight”, they want to give people correct information about something in order to make it clear that what they previously believed was in fact wrong.
And in this chapter, this is what God is doing. God is going on record in his word, speaking for the record, to set the record straight.
Not for his benefit, but for ours. Because just before these verses the Bible says “If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater”. The record needs to be “set straight” because there are lots of people and groups who believe and say and spread lots of things, each claiming legitimacy and truth.
All these make finding truth seem like an impossible venture, and as a result many people think truth cannot be known, while others would rather not know the truth to enjoy the comfort that ignorance affords. Notwithstanding, God has gone on record, so that you can know the truth to the end that you are saved.
It is important to note that the fact that we have the record of God given to us is what makes us without excuse before God. If God hadn’t given us the record, he would be unjust to hold us to account for something we didn’t know. But here, it’s clear that you can know, should know, is your duty to know… and now you do know.
And although the entire Bible is the record of God, there is particular emphasis on a particular record here, because this is essential and compulsory information for each one of us. If you must know one thing, this is it.
And it is that God has freely given eternal life to every single person in his Son Jesus Christ. If you have Jesus Christ, you have life, if you do not have Jesus Christ, you do not have life.
This is God’s record, he won’t change it and you can’t change it, it doesn’t matter if you agree with it, and it doesn’t require you to like it. You may choose to believe or reject it, but here it is.
In the end it won’t matter the least bit what anyone or everyone thought and said, the only thing that will matter is where you are at in relation to what the record said. “He said, she said” ends at “God said”.
But unfortunately, for most people, the Bible to them just “sounds like a broken record”. Doesn’t it? They don’t like it. They don’t want to hear it. It’s annoying. But nonetheless, “and this is the record”.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 30 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
