When Jesus Christ Quotes Genesis
Matthew 19:3 – The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
Matthew 19:4 – And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
Matthew 19:5 – And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
Matthew 19:6 – Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
Hello readers, I haven’t blogged for a while! And that’s because I’ve been sick, and had covid in fact. But I am better now, and it is the end of winter here, and hopefully the dark and cold days are drawing to a close! … Because it’s been a long winter, or at least it has felt that way, because last summer we had was quite cool so it’s been on the colder, darker, wetter side for a while now. Our global warming experience here in Adelaide, South Australia has been more like global cooling! But now it’s called climate change of course, which covers all bases doesn’t it. So when we get colder, warmer, wetter or drier, no matter which one, not matter what happens it affirms the climate change narrative!
But that’s not what I’m blogging about, and recently I posted something on my Facebook about Jesus Christ’s response to the Pharisees when they tempted him with a question on divorce. Jesus Christ’s response is very important to read and know, because his response was quite incredible, and still is today. And I think this response from Jesus is just so incredibly relevant to the major issues we are seeing in society today… three of which I will briefly address in this blog. Because in Jesus Christ’s response, Jesus covers the creation, gender, and marriage all in one response. Unless you live under a rock, you would know that these three issues and topics are major battlezones in modern western society. You know, us privileged countries which have enjoyed prosperity, freedom and light… who now fumble over the most basic building blocks of knowledge. These are VITAL issues, and so let’s get our Lord Jesus Christ’s wisdom on them.
Of course, if you read these verses and the context for yourself, you will see that the situation here is that the Pharisees were trying to trap Jesus with a trick and trap question. Or so they thought. Of course, they had no real interest in Jesus Christ’s answer except for finding something in his answer which they could use to say hey, you’re contradicting what the scripture says and you’re a liar boy! And these kind of people still abound today, people who try and “break” the Bible coming from a certain angle to God’s word thinking they can poke a hole in God’s word and unravel the whole thing. Please note, however, that even when Christians who don’t believe the Bible are broken, the scripture remains unbroken. If you don’t want to be broken, line up with God’s word. When Christians themselves don’t even believe the word of the God they say they serve, they get broken real fast. But we know Jesus didn’t back away from scripture, rather he showed his authority in it. And that’s where your authority will be too. They never broke Jesus Christ with their questions, and instead, by the end of his ministry, they had filed their attempts at dialogue away and resorting to outright slander and false accusations after he had put them to shame time and time again. And when he asked them some questions, Jesus really showed them who was boss. Because he is the boss, just a gracious, merciful, willing to die for us ungrateful sinners boss. Jesus was a “boss” even in his death, he laid his life down, no one took it from him.
But recently have been super impressed by Jesus Christ’s answer here, and as already stated, it is because of the profound implications that his answer has! The implications for creation, gender, and marriage, three major points of contention in our society… are staggering. In these few verses, we see Jesus Christ clearly affirming the literal Biblical account of creation in the book of Genesis. I mean, he directly quotes from it! Jesus Christ believed in creation. And of course he did, because he was the Creator, we learn that elsewhere in the Bible. Of course Jesus Christ affirms Genesis, of course he affirms his own word! Please note, that the very first thing you read when you open the Bible is not John 3:16, it’s God creating the heaven and the earth in Genesis 1:1 and the verses following then detailing what he created, how he created, when he created. Creation is vital. But many “Christians” today have ceded Genesis 1:1, but in so doing, they ceded the rest of it too. When you cede Genesis, you cede the faith. Keeping the faith starts at Genesis. And if God can’t be taken at his word in verse 1 of chapter 1, how can he be taken at his word anywhere else? If you can’t take your own God at his word, how can you convince someone else to believe and obey him?
I know professing Christians who don’t care for Genesis. They allegorize it away. They say it’s not important. But it’s no coincidence that these Christians have no faith in the Bible anywhere else either, they don’t believe or live any of it really. The correlation between not believing Genesis and being worldly and living in sin seems to be very strong. I guess it’s no surprise that they live like God’s word isn’t true when they don’t believe it is true. There’s a lot of things you lose when you surrender creation. Everything in the Bible is based off creation after all. Surrender creation and you surrender the faith and everything that comes with it. Satan knows that, this world knows that, why don’t you?
God’s authority over mankind is based on the fact he is the Creator. Never forget that. As Creator, God gets to make the rules, which he has. If he is not the Creator, and he didn’t create it how he said he did, for what purpose he said he did, why he did, when he did… then everything else falls down. The fact that God is the Creator is vital to our salvation. Did you know that being saved is a new creation? Jesus said ye must be born again. The new birth is a creative act of God. Hence why salvation takes God’s power. If he can’t create what he said he would create for what reason he said he would create… then you’re not saved and dead in your sins. Physical birth is a creation the first time, and spiritual birth is creation a second time. I guess it’s not coincidence that many Christians who don’t believe Genesis are also pro abortion “choice” as well. Hmm interesting correlation… because they don’t believe that baby conceived in the womb is a creation of God.
Degrading the concept of God as Creator has degraded humanity. It degrades faith. It degrades our reverence for human life in the womb. It’s degraded everything. If God is not the Creator, and the Creator he said he was, not the Creator you allow him to be… then his book is a lie, and he cannot tell me what to do. If he didn’t create me, I don’t answer to him. And if he cannot be trusted in Genesis creation, how can he be trusted for the creation of new believers in 2022 through that same word? Because the same word that created all things in Genesis is the same word that keeps the heavens and the earth “in store” (continued ongoing existence and awaiting judgment) today… and the same word that when believed, births a new creature inside that person that believed. Creation is vital. That’s WHY it is so attacked. And it is so under attack it’s incredible. Satan has always attacked creation. But Jesus believed in creation. Hmm, so who’s side are you on? Jesus believes in the six day creation, Satan does not… so who does your belief align with? Without question, Jesus affirmed Genesis. So if you’re a Christian, why on earth do you not believe what Jesus believed? Are you greater than your master? Jesus here directly references Genesis in the context of a question on right and wrong and sexual purity… so it’s pretty darn important, or at least Jesus thought it was, seeing as Jesus knew this, and we know, that the very basis and foundation for God’s rules on gender and marriage comes from Genesis.
So we know that creation has been under heavy assault. Call evolution to the witness stand. A lying witness that it is. Evolution calls God a liar. Evolution is not just an innocent “scientific” theory. It is a pernicious theory that has caused amazing amounts of harm to generations. Evolution comes with passengers. Even more harmful than it’s scientific lies are the ideologies and philosophies that underpin it, such as the concept of changing truth. Evolution denies the Creator and instead makes us the creators, our own creators who make our own truths. We are self creating animals which make our own lives and our own truths and our own God. Evolution takes away absolutes, but look how absolute Jesus was. And evolution gives you subjective and relative truths. But it is still a lie, no matter how mainstream the lie is, remember Satan deceives the whole world, yeah, everyone can be wrong. Safety is not in numbers.
What’s incredible to me is that evolution’s ideology is thick in professing Christianity. It has leavened the faith of many, and that leaven has spread throughout as leaven does. It’s a shame that not even the Christians believe in creation anymore, having been so intimidated and cowered down by the lies of “science so called” as Paul put it. They should have been aware, and hence the “beware” Paul said to Timothy, but nobody has been aware, instead of keeping the watch, they’ve been sleeping like it’s night time, because it is their night time, they are not truly children of the light, children of the day, as all true believers are. They’re drunk and intoxicated with the lies of this world. Wake out of that stupor, wake up Christian, wake up to Genesis 1, that’s where this story starts. Without Genesis you don’t even have a Saviour, because Jesus traces all the way back to Adam. Genesis is referenced all throughout the Bible, because it is our reference point, in Genesis we learn where we come from, how we got to be here… and if you don’t know that… how can you know your purpose for living and where you’re going?
But let’s turn our attention to genders. Because Jesus defined two genders! Only two. Male and female. But that’s radical now, we are so progressive we’ve progressed past the Bible, we evolved past the old fashioned truth of male and female. We’ve made our own truth. We’ve created our own mad little reality. See, as soon as you’ve thrown Genesis out, the rest crumbles, and it has, we’ve seen it. We’ve seen the degradation of the most basic things we know about humanity, like the fact you’re a boy or you’re a girl. The Bible says that whosoever believes on him shall not be confounded… but look how confounded we have become by the most basic truths, like what is a man and what is a woman. But here we see our Lord Jesus Christ affirm two genders. Oh was he a hater? Or do you hate him, because he tells you the truth? I was recently talking to someone who said Jesus never said anything about genders and homosexuality etc. Man, how about read these verses? Here is Jesus saying that there is male and female, that’s how God made it, and marriage and physical relationships therein are between one man and one woman, as Adam and Eve were, and this is ordained by God, Creator God, who is Jesus Christ!
Marriage was created by God. Marriage is of God. God says what it is. And God made it to work that way. God make rules for our good, not for his good. God made marriage to be between one man and one woman. Because Jesus Christ said so. He said the Bible said so. It’s always good to lead with the Bible says so. It doesn’t matter who you make Jesus out to be, the real Jesus defined by his word did not and will never affirm anything deviant to the design and intention and purpose of how he created it to be. You may be full of contradictions, but Jesus is not. He’s not confused. He’s not queer. He died for you to save you from your sin, not to excuse your sin. He won’t justify your sin… ever. Nor mine. As the Bible says “For the righteous Lord loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.” So how about get on the same page as God? He’s given you the page of his word to get on, starting with Genesis, Jesus said go to the start, go to Genesis… as Jesus said “have ye not read?” Why haven’t you read what he’s said to you and every human being alive? As clearly stated in Micah 6:8 “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” Ah “humbly”. That’s the problem isn’t it. Humility, surrendering to what God has said, doesn’t come easily does it. But humility is required to walk WITH God, which we are commanded to do, not walk against God. Stop going against him, get in step with him. Walk with him, get WITH him… is it that much to ask?
So we read that Jesus Christ clearly affirmed scripture, beginning with the beginning, the very first things God said and did in the creation of heaven and earth and mankind… everything. We see Jesus CLEARLY affirm Genesis, and in so doing, he affirmed God’s authority, God’s design and God’s commands in creation based on the fact he is Creator. Genesis isn’t optional. It is mandatory and crucial to your salvation. As Jesus said “For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?” Direct quote, dear reader, because they’re not my words. Never forget, the fact that God is the Creator, and that he created all things by Jesus Christ how he said and did, is the foundation point of both Old and New Testaments… just read Genesis 1 and John 1.
Remember, and get this down, that God as Creator is the very first thing we learn about God, and the first thing you must believe about him to be saved “for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Believe that “he is”, just as he is and was in Genesis! Take him as he is, not as you want him to be or would rather he was! If you don’t get the beginning right, nothing else that follows will be right either. Remember, salvation starts from incorruptible seed, if your Christianity didn’t start from that incorruptible seed… you grow into the wrong thing. You may have grown, but you are a corrupt tree, and a corrupt tree cannot but bring forth corrupt fruit. It’d be a shame to do a lot of growing in a life started by the wrong seed, a corrupt seed of unbelief and denial of Christ. Denying Christ as Creator is denying Christ, make no mistake.
So there was a beginning. God was at the beginning. Jesus was at the beginning. Humans did not evolve. They were created and made as adult humans, starting with Adam, the first man, and they were a special creation. God made male and female. God made rules for man. God ordained marriage between one man and one woman, and that marriage created the first family, and set the standard for family as the building block of human society. Have you noticed for yourself how creation, gender, marriage… all these issues are tied together? If we just held on to Genesis ,we would get it all right, because we would get the foundation right. But take away the foundation, and that big skyscraper built on sand is going to come toppling down. Our society may exalt itself, but just like Nebuchadnezzar’s image, the top may be gold, but what is gold on feet of clay? A Christianity that doesn’t believe in Genesis will come crashing down, and it has. We’ve seen it. It’s white bread Christianity, stripped of all it’s nutrition and goodness. Faith is the substance people, where is your substance? Believe Genesis, just as Jesus Christ did! Get the start right, get your beginnings right. God got the beginning right, and he will get the beginning of your faith right too, but beginning by calling him a liar is not the right beginning for faith, because it is not faith. I hope that you believe Genesis, because Jesus did, the Saviour of the world believed Genesis, so we should too, and get that right and the rest will follow, because it’s the first thing we learn about God.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 32 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
