1 Corinthians 1:18 – For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Hello readers, hope you are having a good weekend. If you are not saved, I want to let you know that when a person tells you about Jesus Christ, and they brave your smirk, ridicule and contempt to tell you how to be saved, know that it’s not because they do not know or realize that it’s foolishness to you, but rather, it’s because they know that the preaching of the cross of Jesus Christ is the only thing with the power to save you.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is where the power of God to change a life and save a soul is. That’s the way God has made it to be, whether you understand it or not. It might be stupid to you, but if you want to see stupid, just look in the mirror. It’s only stupid to you because you’re not as smart as you think you are.

God has made it to be through the preaching of the cross of Christ that you are saved. It’s so simple but yet foolish to the wise and religious and educated and elite and contentious of this world, because God has not made a salvation based on who you are, what you think and what you know. He accepts you based on simple childlike faith, not on your person. Note: God made a salvation based on his wisdom, not on your wisdom, which is not wisdom, but which you cannot see that yet. So this world calls Christians and their Bible foolish, yet they all see who is the fool in the end when they kneel before Jesus Christ and are cast into the lake of fire forever.

But yes, the preaching of the cross is foolishness to the unsaved mind. I’ve seen that to be true my whole life. It’s been foolishness to me once. And then I’ve seen that look of “you’re an idiot” come across someone’s face when I’ve mentioned Jesus Christ, I’ve seen the roll of the eyes, and I know this verse to hold true, and you will too if you ever tell someone how to be saved.

If you are not saved, I do not expect you to “get it”. Not because I am smarter than you, but just because in the gospel, a different wisdom is at play, a wisdom you do not have and cannot have, because it’s a wisdom that comes from the Spirit of God. So Christ is my life and my wisdom to me, but to you he is ugh! Meaningless, foolishness, stupidity! God does not reward someone who is wise in his own conceits, he will not cater to your pride, he will abase it… that’s why no proud people get saved… because God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. And I thank God for that, how wise is God for giving salvation to simple faith and not to intellectualism and philosophy and puffed up human idiocy.

Know that if the gospel is foolishness to you, then it’s only foolishness to you because you are perishing. You are in big trouble with God right now. It’s foolishness to you because you are unsaved and on the road to hell. It’s foolishness to you because you are in darkness, deceived by the devil and blinded to the light of Jesus Christ. But because it doesn’t make sense to you, you mock the gospel and those who declare it, not because it is actually foolish, just because it doesn’t conform to your very finite, very small, and sin depraved mind. Guess what, God is not saving you or anyone at all and ever on the basis of who they are, what they think, what they do, status, IQ, rank, prestige… anything. If you don’t get real low and real humble and ready to abandon your stupidity, you will never be saved.

In reading 1 Corinthians this week, I’ve seen something of the immense wisdom of God in how he made salvation to be. I just barely touched the hem of the garment of this thing. But God is so immensely wise, what he does is foolishness to us because we are just nowhere near his level at all. Job realized this, that’s why he went from wanting to enter into debate and argument to saying I’ll shut up now, because how can you argue with God when all your assumptions and foundations for your think aren’t even right. We really have no idea who God is, and we make that mistake of thinking God is like us… when he is not. Job realized he could not even argue because he didn’t know anything. We all need to get there.

I praise God that he made salvation in such a wonderful way. He’s made it so that truly anyone can be saved. In a world craving equality supposedly, the only true equality is found in salvation. As they say, all ground is level at the foot of the cross. It really does not matter who and what you are. Because salvation is based entirely on who Jesus Christ is and what he has done, it doesn’t matter if you’re great or small, rich or poor, smart or dumb, where you’re from, skin colour, what job you have, what language you speak, what culture you come from, what football team you support… ANYTHING, the only criteria to being saved is believing the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. That’s wisdom, it takes wisdom to make a salvation that man could not even conceive of in his mind.

I really do thank God for how he made salvation to be. Imagine if he made salvation this intellectual puzzle someone had to solve. Imagine if he made it based on how much money you had. Imagine if he made it based on where you were born. Imagine if he made salvation based on an understanding or wisdom you had to attain to … but he didn’t. He made it by the foolishness of the preaching of the cross. This foolish world got an easy way to be saved, a way of salvation that thwarts the intellectual and elite and proud and wise… but a way that is easily entered into through humility and faith. God made salvation based on his Son entirely… eliminating absolutely everything of man from the picture.

Let’s think about how foolish the unsaved mind is for a second. You meet someone who tells you how to be saved, and guess what you call them? Hateful, bigoted, evil. If they hated you, why on earth would they be telling you how to be saved and receive eternal life? What kind of a “hate” is that? Wouldn’t someone that hates you want to see you suffer and die? Honestly, what kind of person that hates you tells you how to be saved. But that’s your wisdom isn’t it… foolish huh. In your wisdom you love people who will watch you go to hell and not lift a finger to do something about it… and in your wisdom you will persecute someone who loves you enough to cop your abuse to tell you something that doesn’t benefit them, it benefits you forever. Yeah you’re heaps wise. In your wisdom you will choose hell over eternal life, yeah that’s hell wise.

This life really is the arena for the battle of the wisdom of man versus the wisdom of God. God’s wisdom is far above man, but man thinks he knows better. Man in his infinite wisdom has made a mess. Man’s wisdom took man far from God to begin with. Man’s wisdom brought sin and a curse. Look at human history. Look at our countries. Look at our generation. Look at YOUR life. That’s where your wisdom got you… lost, in sin, separated from God, thinking you know everything when you don’t even know the least bit about anything. Man’s wisdom gets him hooked on drugs, smoking, alcohol, ruins his family and life… while being a know it all who can’t be told. We are so wise in our own eyes, not realizing how foolish we are. Imagine if God made a salvation based on our depraved minds, there wouldn’t be much hope in that would there be.

Guess what, God saves you not because of who and what you are and what you do and how you think, speak and act… he saves you in spite of you. You in your wisdom is heading to hell. The destination of your wisdom is hell. So you better cool off on your wisdom before your wisdom heats you up. God made a salvation that is not based on your wisdom, but based on his wisdom… which you think is foolish because it doesn’t fit into your foolish little mind. God is not dumb, WE are. We are not as smart as we think, none of us are. Our wisdom only prevents us from being saved, it doesn’t take us there. Once you get saved, you’ll realize that God’s wisdom is far above your wisdom, but your only way to God’s wisdom is humility and faith in his Son… where the wisdom is.

Look at the wisdom of the world just the past few days. Around the world today people are angry and condemning a supreme court decision that provides some semblance of protection for babies in the womb. There is mass hysteria and outrage over protecting vulnerable helpless little children’s lives from being killed because the mum and the dad want to pursue a career rather than raise the child that resulted from their union. In their mind, people that are pro life are EVIL. And guess what, not just that, but these same people a few weeks back were wanting all the guns taken away because of a school shooting. Wow they care so much about kids huh. If you ever get sick of this world’s wisdom, run to Jesus Christ, where the wisdom of God is found.

You are going to have to get foolish like you truly really are in order to be saved. God made a “foolish” way of being saved on purpose. Because the gospel crucifies your flesh, which we all want to glory in, but which God will not allow to glory in his presence. But crucifixion hurts, and God insulting you through the gospel stings your flesh. That’s why people don’t get saved, they get offended by the foolishness of preaching, never realizing that the foolishness of God is far wiser than the wisdom of men. You know what, we ought to thank God for his grace and mercy that through Jesus Christ will not leave us in our foolishness, but in Christ God will give us true wisdom… because of his wisdom. It’s so wonderful to come to the wisdom of God after a life of the dead ends and stupidity and folly of our wisdom. Jesus Christ is where true wisdom is found. Are you ready to leave your wisdom behind yet? Or you still think God is foolish and you are wise?

By the way, if you can’t see the superiority of God’s wisdom at the moment, let’s just look at the example of Jesus Christ dying on the cross. Because in the world’s wisdom, they thought they were getting rid of him… but in God’s wisdom, that death was necessary not just to defeat death, but also save everyone who believes in him from sin and death as well. You think Satan won, you think Caiaphas won, you think Pilate won, you think the mob won? Think again. The very thing they did to destroy Christ was the very thing God used to utterly defeat Satan and this world, and now Jesus Christ has all power in heaven and in earth, and through his necessary death he authored the salvation of our souls. Praise the Lord! God’s wisdom certainly trumped their little plans didn’t he!

If you’re trying, give up trying to get to God in your wisdom. This world is trying to attain higher wisdom, like that little lying evolutionary chart, they’re trying to progress upwards so they think. But what does that look like? Transgenderism. Homosexuals. Drag queens in schools. Grandpa was a monkey taught in the school as scientific fact. We are so wise we cannot even define what a woman is anymore… oh hold on, pause that… we know what a woman is when we are arguing for the right for a woman to kill her baby, then we know what a woman is because men aren’t allowed to have an opinion because they “don’t have a uterus”. Still happy with where your wisdom is taking you? Man’s wisdom leads to hell fire, you want that outcome?

But as long as you see yourself as wise, you will never find the wisdom of God. You can search high and low, you can study your whole life, read books, do whatever, be whatever, fake whatever… but salvation is us coming to the cross abandoning everything we think and are and do and trusting in Christ. Who’s got the wisdom? Christ has. Christ is the wisdom and power of God. You and I are not. Nobody is, no movement, no community, no elite, no religion… Christ alone. And I just cannot believe how wise God is in how he has saved humanity from their sins. And now you get this incredible dichotomy where fishermen and harlots and tax collectors can be saved, yet the religious elite and the scientific community and everyone else fumbles around in darkness. God is just having fun with man now isn’t he? How can a nobody know more than the somebody? How can the poor have treasure that the filthy rich cannot attain to? If you ever get a tiny grasp on God’s wisdom, you, like Job will only be able to land your hand upon your mouth.

God’s immense wisdom is so evident in the salvation he offers. It is all CHRIST. If you know nothing but Christ, you’ve got more than anything and everyone in the world. Knowing Christ is more wisdom than all the volumes of study in every library and archive in the world. All Paul knew was Christ, and he had God’s wisdom. It’s not what you know, it’s who you know. Wisdom is found in Christ, not in any person or group or movement on this planet. The only thing that matters, the only one who matters is Christ, in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. You get to Christ and you’ll have wisdom that this world will never know in their unbelief and rejection of him. So you can choose your own wisdom, or you can turn to Christ for wisdom.

The only person that matters is God’s Son, Jesus Christ. He is where the power and wisdom of God is. Foolish to you perhaps, but that’s because you’re lost, in darkness, blinded, unsaved and going to hell. Your wisdom will take you there. But I do not want you to go there, because Christ does not want you to go there. Which is why he died for you. Which is why we preach him, we preach Christ, just like Paul did, because in Christ is the power to save your soul and change your eternity forever. And when you get saved, you’ll wonder why did you like the slop of the pigpen of man’s wisdom for so long. One thing matters, and one thing alone, the only thing you need to know is Christ, Christ who is the power of God, and the wisdom of God. If you’ve got him, you’ve got everything, because he is everything and he has everything. Believe on him today, God’s foolishness to you still has the power to save your dying soul.
