Let Your Yea Be Yea
Matthew 5:37 – But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
Hello readers, been thinking about let your yea be yea and your nay be nay. I’ve been thinking about this because our Prime Minister in Australia, who is supposed to be a Christian but most obviously is not, has said so many things which are just lies. In fact our entire government just lies constantly. I mean, they always have, and that’s what they do, that’s why politicians and so on have such a bad reputation for their word meaning nothing. But in recent times the lies have even increased, if that is possible. It’s not even a conscious lie anymore, it’s just pathological lying, they just have to, they can’t not and that’s all they do.
It’s made me think about what I already know, but which is confirmed to me as I see it, which is that Satan is running the show. The Bible makes it clear, and Jesus made it clear that Satan is the father of lies. There is no truth in Satan. And there really seems to be no truth in our government at all. And if all our government and media does is lie, and if Satan is the father of lies, you know who is really behind it all.
I was thinking of this world of lies, and then I thought of my Bible and my God. I thought of how the Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of truth, I thought of how he is called the Comforter. There is comfort in truth. God does not lie to me and never has and never will. Placing my faith and trust in his word is the right place to anchor my soul. I don’t want to be lied to, I don’t want to be deceived, and I am tired of the lying and deceit and distortion and spin and twisting of every single thing.
I thought about let your yea be yea for myself. Can people take me seriously? Am I good for what I say? It’s so important for all of us that we mean what we say. If your word is no good, you are of no use to anyone. Noone will listen to you if you are a liar. That’s why it’s even more staggering that people continue to renew their hope in the word of the government which does nothing but lie to them time and time again. Isn’t that insane? Isn’t insane to keep trusting someone that keeps lying to you? After years and years of lies, why do we keep hoping that this time it is the truth?
But I need not be disappointed by buying someone’s lies. Because I have the truth. If Jesus did not commit himself to man, so should not I. Jesus said ye believe in God, believe also in me. I place my faith in Christ, not in sinful man. And Jesus Christ said he is the truth. So if this world has rejected Christ, it has rejected truth. It’s not interested in the truth, just their truth, a truth which suits them, but which is not the truth. But as the Bible says, I have known the truth, and that truth has made me free. I am not a slave to Satan’s lies, I am not in bondage… and I am Jesus Christ’s free man even in a country that has so weakly and limply surrendered it’s freedom.
While I have God and the Bible, many in my nation have government as their God and the media as their Bible. That’s the God and that’s the scripture they prefer. They’d rather lies over truth. It’s crazy, but not quite as crazy surely as choosing Barabbas over Jesus Christ? If Jesus Christ was here today, I have no doubt we would be yelling out crucify him in an instant. This world truly does lie in wickedness. The Bible was right all along. It always has been on point. But I’ve been thankful for my God who does not lie to me, no not even once. You see, his yea means yea. And in Christ, God’s promises to me are yea. God doesn’t yeah nah me. His yea means yea. My salvation is yea in Christ, never to be reneged upon. And not just yea, but yea and Amen! I have so much to be thankful for.
I will never be ashamed or sorry for having believed in what God has said. I can take what he has said to the bank. I can bank on it. And so can you. As you could probably already tell, I was thinking of Paul writing in 2 Corinthians 1:19,20 “For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea. For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.” And these are just amazing verses. All of God’s promises to me in Christ are yea. My forgiveness is yea. My salvation is yea. My future glory with him is yea. And it’s yea and Amen. And when you say Amen, it means “truth, firmness, trust, confidence” according to Webster’s 1828 dictionary. You say amen when you hear the truth and you assent and agree to it, let it be so! In Jesus Christ, the promises of God to me are yea and Amen!
I think one of the best things God showed me this year was in the story of Jacob and Laban. Laban always changed the deal with Jacob, he would give Jacob his word, they would agree to a deal, and then Laban would change the deal. Jacob got tricked, deceived, and short changed and he eventually got sick of Laban. God, on the other hand, never changed his promise to Jacob, God was good for what he promised him at Bethel, time did not decay the promise, and time did not change God’s mind, neither did time alter what God had meant. That’s why Jacob chose God over Laban, because God’s word meant something but Laban’s word did not. Imagine if God changed his word like Laban did. We would all be sunk! But never fear, for that will never happen, ever! For the Bible says “For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.” God’s word is settled. And it’s settled in heaven, meaning who is man to think that he down here on earth can unsettle it with his revision and critical text theory? God’s word is not subject to change, nor will ever be. It will predate you, and it will postdate you.
But I am still here on earth, but I look for the world to come, I look for the coming kingdom which will be marked by truth and righteousness, a kingdom in which I look to invest more and more of my life towards and is even more needful of my mindfulness. I scroll through my Facebook and it is non stop lies. It’s designed to influence and control your thinking. Our society and generation has gotten so ridiculously far from God it is mind boggling. No wonder Isaiah said when describing the state of his own nation ” From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores…” Is there anyone that tells the truth anymore? Well there still are people who do, but our nation has gone to hell. And the Bible says in Psalm 9:17 ” The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” Our nation is turning into hell, almost quite literally. We have forgotten God, we are wicked, and it’s becoming hell quite literally right before our eyes.
People have always said look how advanced we are, look how better we are than previous generations, look how much smarter we are. But are we that much better? People used to keep their word. That’s a pretty fundamental part of living as part of a society, people being generally truthful and good for what they say. You didn’t even have to be saved at one point for your word to mean something. People’s word used to mean something. Now it means nothing. Perhaps that coincided with the changing of God’s word. Because God’s word also means nothing to people now. They don’t care about all those changes in their Bibles, because they don’t have a God who keeps his word, and neither do they. See the degeneration of yeas and nays started with the degeneration of God’s word. When we traded in God’s infallible word, we became a nation of liars.
I will finish with this. With God, his yea means yea, and his nay means nay. Are you going to be a yea for going to heaven? Or a nay? Because that nay you hear at the great white throne will stand forever. God hasn’t told you no yet, but one day it will be no when you die as a Christ rejecting sinner. And that no will be forever. You don’t want that for your eternity. As a Christian, my eternal life in Christ is yea. My forgiveness in him is yea. And he means it. And his yea is yea. I have so much to be thankful for, and if you are saved, you trust in the God who is always true and who always deals faithfully and truthfully with us. Praise the Lord for that. That’s why all of eternity will sing praises to the Lord, because he is worthy. His promises are yea for all time, and if you get saved today, his promises will be yea for you too.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 32 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
