Daniel 3:25 – He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
Hello readers, just some thoughts from Daniel 3 today. As a Christian, we are all going to go through the furnace. God lets us go through the fire to prove our faith. What is our faith really worth? Many people claim to be saved, many people claim to be in the faith, but that fire proves what that faith is truly worth. What is truly there? Who is truly there? If you have anything less than the Son of God in you, dwelling in your heart by faith, that fiery trial of your faith might just burn you up. The only reason that bush did not burn in the desert was because God was in it. The only way you won’t burn up and burn out is because of Jesus Christ.
Peter doesn’t say your faith might be tried, he’s saying it will be tried. 1 Peter 1:7 “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:” If we expect the trials, we shouldn’t be so surprised when they come. And hopefully for you and for I the trial of our faith only serves to show us what we’ve truly got, which is greater riches than gold. Jesus Christ is the greatest riches we have, he is the only riches we have.
A faith that hasn’t been tried, and tested, and put through the fire is a faith you don’t yet know is worth anything. It’s easy to say you have faith, it’s easy to say you are in the faith, but how do you do in the furnace? God tries our faith for our own good. So we can know what we’ve got and what we don’t got. Notice in the story, God did not spare them going through the fire, but he was with them in the fire. This is a crucial little truth here. We would rather deliverance from the fire, but many times God gives us deliverance IN the fire. In trials of life we would rather not go through the fire. God doesn’t promise you that you won’t go through the fire, but he promises to be with you in the fire. That fire did not hurt these men, not even the smell of it was on them. Just think about that. It’s amazing.
Hopefully there is not even the smell of the fire on you. God can bring us through that heat so perfectly that people wouldn’t even know it. You know, your testimony to this world is very powerful. Do they smell the fire on you? Or have you been through the fire, yet not even the slightest burn, yet not even the slightest bit of stink. SO often people turn on God, and their life stinks. So often they get scorched and they turn away from Jesus Christ. Do people smell the fire on you? Or do they see the deliverance from the God you say you believe and trust in?
This world is a pretty hot place for the child of God. Look what they’ll put you through. These Hebrew children were thrown into a furnace all because they chose to obey God’s word, all because they loved God more. I had one thought from this story, which was that in order to fall down, you have to be standing already first. I thought this was pretty cool, because many people think or say they’re not going to fall down, but they’ve already fallen down. How are they going to stand when they’re already down? Before the heat came, you’ve already bowed.
Are you standing? Or have you already bowed down? We as Christians are commanded to stand. 1 Corinthians 16:13 says “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.” If you read the previous chapters, you’ll find out these Hebrews were already standing fast in the faith in their life. Many people don’t even get to the furnace, because they’ve already fallen down long before. To refuse falling down means you have to be standing first. You can’t control what others do, and what others will do, but you can just stand. And having done all, stand.
We should be already standing fast in the truths of God’s word. We should already be standing fast in the faith. We should already be standing fast in our salvation. There should be things not for sale, not up for negotiation, not open for compromise. Add a little fire, and many professing Christians will not spare to save their own skin. How do you do when the heat comes on? There’s a lot of heat in this Christ rejecting world. There is pressure to do what you’re supposed to do and not do what you’re not supposed to be. There is heat on how you live, how you think, what you say, what you do. That heat is like a furnace, that is heat that only a true believer with a true God can survive.
These verses and this chapter have quite a strong relevance for today, because the heat is coming on like never before. You can’t control the king’s fury, you can’t control the ungodly decree, you can’t control that everyone else is bowing… but you can control whether you stand or not. And just you standing might make some people mad, in fact it will make people mad. And they had accusers, there were people that dobbed them in, people that had bowed. People around you will bow, and people around you will condemn you for not bowing, and that ill truly test whether or not you hold God’s word as supreme, as authority and as truth. All that heat does is show what’s truly there, or what isn’t there at all.
Please God, not the fire. Nobody wants to be chucked in the furnace. Those men weren’t hoping to go in the fire. And God didn’t stop them going in the fire. But God saved them from the fire, God was with them in the fire. That must have been quite an experience, walking in the fire with God. They went in bound, but they were walking in there loosed. God may just use that fire to loose some things off your life which makes you even freer. Think of how free you will be, being free from fear, free from doubt, free from sin… God can and will use the fire to draw you even closer to him. Just think of how close their walk with God got. They were literally walking with God. They got to walk with the Son of God, not even born yet in a manger. In the fire, God will reveal himself to you, God will be with you, this thing isn’t just dead religion and intellectual head knowledge.
And when you go through the fire, God is liable to get the glory. Their simple faith in their God and their belief in his word changed an empire. It changed a king, a king of kings. You going through the fire and not being burned, because they see God is with you, is one of the strongest testimonies you have to this world. They’re watching on. They’re seeing you in the fire. And who are they seeing with you? What does your life smell like after? Does it smell like the fire? You can hang with God in the fire, what a truth that is. All they did was believe in their God, who is the Lord of all.
Never has this story been more apt, more relevant, more appropriate to believers, make sure we are standing, make sure we are in the faith. This was all faith ground, there were a lot of things out their control, but all they had was simple faith in their God. God will let us go through the fire to burn the stuff off our life that is tying us up. God may let us go through the fire to build and help and purify our walk of faith even more. Understand that this entire thing is by faith. All that other garbage needs to be burnt off. And in the fire is when God will truly reveal himself to you.God may let us go through the fire, but he will be with us in the fire, and deliver us from the fire and through the fire experiences, God will use our lives to shine even brighter than ever before in this dark and evil world.
Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 30 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
