What Others Say And Think Of Jesus Christ Doesn’t Change The Truth

John 7:12 – And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.

Matthew 16:13 – When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

Matthew 16:14 – And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

Matthew 16:15 – He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

Matthew 16:16 – And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Hello readers, hope you had a great Christmas day. Well recently I’ve been thinking about how everyone has their own version of Jesus Christ these days. Everyone has their own account and belief and opinion and philosophy on Jesus, on God, on righteousness. The Bible says that there is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death. But it really is quite incredible when I think about it. The diversity of beliefs while claiming the name of Jesus Christ is staggering. So many people seem to name the name of Jesus Christ yet have such a different version of him… their OWN version of him. So I want to discuss this today, because actually in the Bible this was going on when Jesus walked the earth.

It should be no surprise that there are so many different versions of Jesus Christ, look at all the Bibles around. People say they all same the same thing, but they don’t, not even nearly, and they portray a very different image of God. Noone seems to be on the same page because they quite literally are not on the same page, they’re not in the same book to begin with.

One thing I realized this year that the very first new translation of God’s word is actually found in Genesis 3. You barely start the Bible and someone already has a new version of who God is and what God has said. Satan began a discussion with Eve, and he was saying to her… no this is what God really said, knows and means. Look what that yielded in her life, in Adam’s life and in the next thousands of years of human history. Doubt lead to disobedience which lead to sin and death.

People always say they’re looking for truth, and they want to learn. Well the Bible says, ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Where is truth? If everyone’s got their own version of right and wrong, of who God is etc… what is actually the truth? A guy called Pilate, not just any old guy, but the Roman governor at the time of Christ, he was so confused by what people were saying of Christ versus what Jesus was saying and the man he was seeing before him who so clearly wasn’t guilty of all the charges and accusations and hearsay… he ended up saying… what is truth? I’ve had many conversations when there are so many doubts and disputations that can we agree on anything?

The Bible says let God be true and every man a liar in Romans… to the end that we can overcome when we are judged. You see, you and I are going to be judged, and in fact the judgments of God are already made known to man. We know the judgments of God so we can be ready against the day of judgment. Judgment day isn’t going to come and we say to God, God I didn’t know all this. Oh no, God has given us his word, HIS account, which trumps man’s account of matters. God gives a very detailed account of his Son, of what he requires of us, we have been furnished with the book of life.

Jesus had burst onto the scene, and guess what… everyone is wondering who he is. Some think they know who he is. He’s the carpenter’s son. They thought they already had him sized up. He’s the guy from Nazareth. See, many people speak as though they really know who Jesus Christ is… but Job, one of the greatest men to have walked the earth, he came to questioning who are you God? Maybe you don’t know God like you think you do.

Jesus went about teaching, preaching, healing, doing good. He was saying a lot of stuff. But look at the reaction it got. Some said he was a prophet, some said he was a good man, others said he was a deceiver, a liar and a lawbreaker, others said he had a devil. Everyone had an opinion, everyone had what they thought of him, who they thought he was. You can’t talk to a person today, but they are the same as these multitudes. You see, this diversity of versions of Jesus Christ has always been around.

The problem isn’t in who Jesus Christ in, in what he’s said, in what he said, in what he requires. He hasn’t lacked clarity, he isn’t unable to communicate, it isn’t things aren’t clear. There is a problem, and that problem is with sinful humanity. Jesus said in John 8 that he had come for judgment into the world. That seems a bit crazy because we are told he come to save us from our sins. Jesus achieved many things in his life. You see, the arrival of Jesus Christ, just like the word of God today, it isn’t the problem… we are the problem. Jesus Christ just proves who and what we are. He reveals our heart. The problem wasn’t him and his message, for all those things are crystal clear, unchanging, evident and eternal… but the problem was with the hearers.

The problem was never with the unchanging God, with Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever. The problem wasn’t with a lack of clarity and direction and truth from God… the problem is with us. Only a very small amount of people saw Jesus for who he was, and got what he was saying. Was it that Jesus wasn’t clear? No. It was that people’s hearts were hard, their minds were blinded, their ears couldn’t hear, their eyes were shut. All God’s word does is reflect the state of our own hearts, and it makes us guilty.

The verses I quoted at the beginning are just some of the verses that show that different people had a different opinion on who Jesus Christ was. And who Jesus Christ was, and what he was saying… that divided people. Jesus asked his disciples, who do men say that I am? But the more important question was who do YOU say that I am? See, when you’re looking around at what other people are saying of Christ, of truth, of God… you’re liable to get messed up. Find out for yourself.

The thing is, people don’t just get their own version of Jesus, they don’t just form their own image of God… they then go further and compel you to subscribe to it? What does that mean? Well go back to the book of Daniel and Nebuchadnezzar made a golden image. What’d he do with it? He said bow to my image of you’re dead. If this isn’t a picture of what’s going on today with society wanting true believers to bow to their thoughts, philosophies, beliefs, truths, moralities, identities… I don’t know what is. People get upset when you take God’s word, which the three Hebrew children did, over their construction of God, of right and wrong, of truth. Life truly can be a fiery furnace down here.

People didn’t just have their own opinion on who Jesus was, but they also had their own version of what he said. He was tried and crucified based on what others said of him. The only sinless man in existence got crucified not because he was guilty of what they charged him with and accused him of… but because of other people misrepresenting him, saying their version of who he was and what he had said. They were telling Pilate he’s this and he’s that, he did this and he did that, he said this and he said that. The problem was never with Jesus Christ, the problem was with hearts that were full of bitterness, hatred, envy, madness and darkness.

But did all this change who Jesus was and what he had said? Not a bit people. This is why you shouldn’t trust man. The Bible says Jesus didn’t commit himself unto man, because he knew what was in man. We don’t have the word of man to base our opinion of Jesus Christ on and what we do with him and what he has said. Oh no, we have the word of God. We don’t have cunningly devised fables, and when we trust God’s word that’s a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. It so we don’t get swerved aside, shipwrecked, fooled, deceived, enticed, duped by man and Satan’s trickery. It was the magicians of Egypt that withstood Moses. Magicians fool, trick, deceive… what they do is not real, but they make you think it’s real don’t they, and you go wow. That’s the same today.

People have no qualms about speaking on the behalf of Jesus Christ. The speak like they know him and have him all summed up. They have the audacity, they have no fear of God, they make claims about him that are as wrong as back then. They said what he had said, they twisted it all from who he was to what he said. To the very point of Pilate not being know what to believe. They said to a blind man Jesus healed… this man is not of God and we know this man is a sinner. That blind man didn’t buy what they were saying… why? Because he knew Jesus Christ for himself. Your defense against getting lost in other men’s lies and accounts and versions of Jesus and truth is guess what? Knowing him for yourself? It’s why Jesus said ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free. You can be set free from doubts, disputations, debates, questions, from getting to the what is truth point.

What to believe? What is truth? Everyone has their own truth these days. It’s like the time in Judges, everyone doing that which is right in their own eyes. They had no king back then… and you know that’s the problem, people don’t have a king, there is no central authority, there is no standard… it’s all hearsay, opinions, philosophies… God’s word is well and truly on the backburner. People’s profession of God’s word is as empty as back then, they sure claimed the name of God, they said the right things, but really, everyone just thought what they wanted to think, and did what they wanted to do. Everyone has their own version of who Jesus Christ is. So who do we trust? To whom do we look to? God has already solved this for us. That’s why he gave us his word. If you wanted to know who Jesus Christ was and what he was about… would you listen to what others were saying? Others who were wrong, wrong, wrong and lying about him, completely compromised by their hard hearts and vested interests and agendas. No, you’d go and see him yourself. Get in God’s word yourself or you’re going to get led around like blind sheep. The blind leading the blind, stumbling in the darkness, and not knowing what you’re stumbling at.

The thing is Jesus is the unchanging God. The Bible says Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever. He’s not changed from the start folks. Jesus said to the Jews, before Abraham was… I am. All along Jesus had spoken and preached and here they are asking him… who are you? What’d he say? John 8:25 – Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning. This stretched not just back to the beginning of his earthly ministry robed in human flesh in John 1, but in fact to Genesis 1… in the beginning. Jesus is the beginning. The problem is you’ve doubted God from the beginning, that’s why you struggle with everything thereafter. If he’s not the head of your corner, he’s the stumbling stone in your life, you keep tripping over your unbelief in him.

There were times when Jesus didn’t even answer people, you know why? Because he had told them time and time and time again. What more can he say than to you he hath said? And why do you want to know? You see, as Jesus knew their thoughts and hearts, we know the Bible discerns our hearts as we read it. God knows your heart better than do, your thoughts and intents. Remember back to Jeremiah 42, a bunch of people who had already decided what they were gonna do went to Jeremiah and said, ask God for us please Jeremiah, we’ll do what he says. But no, Jeremiah came back to them and said you are a bunch of liars, you’re not interested in God’s word. It was a facade, it was a joke… are you a facade and a joke?

Everyone else holds to all sorts of truths and rights and wrongs and opinions and theories about God. But only one matters. And that is God’s account of things. Psalms says, Forever O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. Wow. The only debate is in your own mind, it doesn’t change the fact that Jesus Christ is who he is. You know that right? For all that people were saying about Jesus Christ, it didn’t change the truth of who he was and what he was teaching and preaching. It changed nothing.

The very first commandment of the ten commandments is thou shalt have no other gods before me. Society is guilty of that commandment constantly. Idolatry is one of our worst sins, amongst many others it must be said. But the problems in our life stem from when God, who is the Most High… isn’t our highest. When he isn’t our highest, that’s when things are going to be out of whack. When something else is higher, such as our own wisdom and intellect, that’s when we get into trouble. After all John had said in 1 John, he finished with two statements. This is the true God and eternal life. You see, the Bible is the faithful record of who Jesus Christ is, so that’s where we need to go to understand who he is and what he has said. And the next thing is little children, keep yourself from idols. You see, when you form your version of Christ on anything other than the express word of God, you’re in idolatry country. What you’ve got isn’t real, but just a figment of your own depraved, fallen and deceitful imagination.

When you’ve listened to so many other people’s opinions and versions of truth… you end up like Pilate… what is truth? What a question, he had The Truth standing before him, and he’s in what is truth territory. All because of what other people are saying, their opinions, and all their hidden motives. If you want the truth, you have the book of truth, which the Spirit of truth honors constantly as you read and get to know Christ based on God’s account of matters, not what someone else is saying who may or may not be totally wrong. There was a huge diversity of information going around on who Jesus was, and just like the news and media today… there were so many lies floating around people didn’t know what to believe, but they were bombarded with enough lies that they end up crying out crucify him, crucify him! People are led around by a bunch of liars today, just look at society, the media, news, modern Christianity… it’s full of liars and magicians and tricksters and deceivers.

So today, do you listen to what people say of Christ… or do you find out yourself? Everyone’s got their own version of truth, of right and wrong, everyone has their own god. None of this changes who the true God, the Lord Jesus Christ, is. What do you go on? God’s word? Or try and figure it and him out yourself? There were only a small amount of people who recognized Jesus Christ, who believed on him, who had clarity in amongst a nation where you wouldn’t have known what to believe based on what others were saying. Ultimately it is not going to matter what anyone else is saying, Jesus asks you today, but who do YOU say that I am? Where are you at with Jesus Christ personally? See, we are all going to be held responsible and accountable for what we did with Jesus Christ, you won’t be able to point fingers and blame and excuse. You have God’s word, you are without excuse, it’s not the truth can’t be found, it’s what have you done with it? Are you going to live a life going on what others are saying, or are you going to get in God’s word yourself? For all the different versions, accounts, philosophies, wisdom, ideas, opinions… there is one Lord Jesus Christ, and he’s the same from Genesis 1:1. You can get to know him today, call upon the name of the Lord and you will be saved.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 30 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)

  1. Great piece. Very well written. However didn’t Jesus appoint some to be shepherds to feed his flock(Peter)? Didn’t Paul ask the Corinthians to follow his example in Christ? Ye are the light of the world, the Bible says (to those in Christ). And also the salt of the earth.
God has always depended on man to carry out his work.
All that was in God, he poured into Christ. And all in Christ was poured into the church. This church, which the gates of hell will not prevail against. Why did he set some preachers, apostles, prophets, etc in this church.

I think the problem is, evil men, foreordained for this purpose, have tried everything to attack and pollute TRUTH, through falsehood. Because truth is light, and it sets free. (You shouldn’t be surprised by the wiles of the devil. His purpose is to sow doubt and cause confusion.)
However the true believers and servants of God also exist, blessed with God’s knowledge and understanding, to God’s sheep, as the spirit gives utterance.

Bible says to know HIM (not His word only) is life. If the same Jesus is alive today, and hasn’t lost his power then it must be that his spirit, once it in dwells u, must make u act the same, in word and in deed. That’s why Paul said, Be strong, in the power of his might.

It is they (and only they) who have attained this, (infallible proof of His Spirit living in them which leads into all truth) that can demonstrate him to others. Is that not the commission of the Church? Or has the body of Christ ceased to exist on the earth? Because if they’re here, it’s their job to demonstrate the power of God in the earth. And that’s what brings understanding.
Till then, people will not know what the word means. Eg, the Ethiopian eunuch, who read the word, had faith in it, yet couldn’t understand what it was saying. It took a witness of what had happened, filled with the spirit of God, to lead him to truth.
    Matthew 10:41-42.

Just sharing my thoughts on your wonderful write up, as a Christian brother.
May God continue to bless this wonderful cause.

    • Hello manuel2k16, thanks for your comment I appreciate it. I wrote this blog to say that instead of relying on what other people are saying, who may or may not know Jesus Christ, who may or may not know the Bible… get in God’s word and find out for yourself. If it comes down to what I say, or someone says, or what God’s word says… who should you believe? The answer is God’s word.

One thing about modern Christianity these days is everyone’s got their own truth. God’s word is out and it’s all just up to the individual what they believe. But it is clear from God’s word that, God’s word is to be the authority. The Holy Spirit of God always honors and works in accordance to God’s word in a believer’s life. And ultimately what matters is not what man is saying, but what God’s word says. Of course we are vessels, so we can be used to minister God’s word to others… absolutely. So we are only as useful in the ministry of the gospel of truth to others to the degree that we hold to, and stand by, and hold forth God’s word.

Of course, we know God has always used men, his tabernacle is with men. He said go into the world and preach the gospel. That said, it is important to realize that the Bible is God’s word, it’s not the word of man, though God used men to write down and record what he had said. None of my blog I don’t believe frustrates the role which we play in the kingdom of God. We have a vital role, but we are only useful in the service of God if we are faithful to God ourselves, and sticking to God’s word ourselves. When we get saved we get born again, the Spirit of God illuminates and enlightens us, he quickens our mind and heart and soul… so we should , like Philip, be able to share God’s word with others and help give understanding and light. But Philip didn’t say what he thought, he just shared with the eunuch what the Bible was saying… because he knew it was about Jesus Christ. Philip didn’t come up with his own stuff, he was submitted to God, walking in truth, and thus able to be used to help someone else understand the truth.

Paul did say in 1 Corinthians 11:1 – Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. There’s nothing wrong with following someone… as they follow Christ. If Paul stopped following Christ… you should stop following Paul. To this world around us, we are the best representation of Jesus Christ they’ll ever know. Our influence is critical. When we are Christian, that means Christlike, we have the Holy Spirit in us, who is changing us into the image of Christ. So yes, we are ambassadors, we are living epistles known and read of men. So yes we do have an important role… so long as we are faithful in what we are doing.

We can only know God through his word by the revelation and quickening of the Holy Spirit of God, who moves in accordance with his word, the gospel. As a vessel of God, we carry treasure. We are just branches that bear fruit. It’s God in us and through us who is making us shine, who is making us salt, who’s word in us is what we should be holding forth to others and basing our lives and decisions on.

In this world of deception and darkness… who and what should we trust? The Lord Jesus Christ and his word, the Holy Bible. That’s his record, his testimony, his witness, his truth to man. You can look all around and everyone believes everything, everyone’s got philosophies, wisdom, intellect, opinions, theories… but what matters is what the Bible says. That’s what’s going to judge us at the end… the word of God. John 12:48 – He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

I hope this make sense, I believe it is pretty clear. It is required in stewards that a man be found faithful. Our obedience, our faith, our trust… it does matter. We can make a difference when we stick to the book, where the book is our authority for life. That’s all we have that is worth someone else’s time to be honest. And yes, without the Holy Spirit, who is given to those who sincerely repent and believe the gospel, none of this makes sense or can ever make sense. That’s why we are to hold forth the word of life, because God always honors his word, it doesn’t return to him void, it is the precious seed that we bear that if we bear, will result in sheaves that we can bring with us (Psalm 126:6). Once again, thanks for your comment, may the Spirit of truth guide both you and I into all truth, and I hope for God’s blessing and moving in your life. To the Lord Jesus Christ be all glory.
