Do You Need An Anchor For Your Soul?

Hebrews 6:17 – Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:

Hebrews 6:18 – That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

Hebrews 6:19 – Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;

Hebrews 6:20 – Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Hello readers, hope you’ve had/are having a good weekend. The question today is… do you need an anchor? If nothing else, this year has proven we need an anchor. An anchor of our soul. Something we can pin our life to, something we can base our life on, something sure, a foundation of rock rather than shifting sands on which we can build our house. God’s provided the anchor for life’s voyage. Maybe the vessel of your life is being chucked around in the storm, in Acts 27 they threw some anchors out to save them in the storm. Paul had said the voyage would be with hurt… and the voyage of life, if you’re going it in disobedience to God’s word… that’s going to be a voyage of hurt. You need an anchor for your soul. People are looking for an anchor in all the uncertainty, the unpredictability, they’re looking for a sure foundation, for a solid rock, for an anchor in this world of lies and false hope and what to believe and what not to believe? We can see how crazy this world has gotten without God’s word, things are upside down and sideways and all messed up. Well you can have an anchor, we have an anchor as the old hymn of faith goes, and the Lord Jesus Christ and his word is our anchor. Make him your anchor today.

If you don’t have the anchor of your soul, you’ve got nothing. If you’ve got nothing to anchor your life to, you’re going to drift off into a life and eternity of ultimate wreckage. It’s funny how that in this same section of scripture (Hebrews 6 quoted above) where anchor is mentioned, there is also the promise of God who cannot lie. It’s impossible for him to lie. You see, the fact he’s an anchor is inextricably tied to the point that his word can be absolutely trusted. It is absolutely relevant, it is absolutely up to date, it is absolute truth, it is the thing you can and are commanded to base your life upon. Jesus Christ is the Rock remember, but he’s a stone of stumbling to those who choose to reject his word. His word will save you or sentence you. There’s an enemy of God’s word and an enemy of your soul. Satan wants you to doubt and disobey God’s word. He doesn’t want you to trust in the God who cannot and does not lie to you. Our consolation as believers lies in the fact that what God says is the truth… and his truth is our refuge that we have to flee to, his truth is our hope that we have. We’ve got nothing without his word… but turns out his eternal word is everything.

This world is in darkness. It’s full of darkness and sin, it’s full of lies. What to believe? Everyone is confused and confounded and amazed. Everyone says everything, everyone’s got their own opinion… but the Bible says let God be true and every man a liar. Can we agree on that? In 1 Peter 2:6 – Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. See, when you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, when you believe in him based on his precious, pure, infallible, incorruptible, eternal and sure word… you’ll not be confounded by anything this world has to throw at you. You’ll never be cofounded because you have light, you have truth… truth is everything in this world that is so jam packed with the devil’s lies. You can stake your life on the truth of God’s word, the truth of his promises, the truth of who he is and what he’s done, does and will yet do for you.

People’s souls are thrown about like that ship in a storm, and they’re going to get smashed on the rocks because they don’t have an anchor… they don’t have truth. You’ll never once be ashamed of holding to God’s word. It is the truth. The Bible says hope maketh not ashamed… if God’s word, if his promises, if the truth of who he is and what he has said is what your hope and your life is based on… that won’t make a fool of you ever. Trusting in God’s word will never mock you like your sin and disobedience will. It will pay eternally to have trusted in God’s word.

People today are robbed of simple faith in God’s word. They’ve forsaken the anchor for Satan, the father of lies. You buy this world’s narratives, the media, what other people say, what man has to say… all the philosophy, the intellect, the wisdom, the opinions of man… yeah you’re buying his pack of lies. And he’s a robber, because those lies will rob you of everything God has for you. They’ll rob your faith, they’ll steal your hope, your assurance, your peace, your joy… and even rob you of your very eternal soul. Furthermore Satan is a murderer, so he’s gonna lie to you, then rob you, and ultimately murder you. What a robbery that is to take your soul to hell with him. Because he’ll get you so far from God’s word, from knowing it, believing it, obeying it, laying hold on it for yourself… he’ll murder everything you could have done and been, he’ll murder all that potential you had for the glory of God.

I’ve been thinking of late that the media, this world’s PR machine, Satan’s Bible… it’s like Goliath. It’s so big, it’s so terrible, who can make war with Goliath? Well, a little boy called David who knew and trusted God’s word defeated Goliath. While we have the Bible, Satan also has his Bible, the propaganda from the prince of the power of the air which he bombards us every day with through many different mediums like television, your phone, your music, through news, through friends, through family, he’ll bombard you with how to believe, what to believe, how to act. And it’ll take a knife and stab your faith in God’s word… there’ll be no anchor in the stern of your ship… no anchor to throw out when that storm comes… when you’re all at sea and in darkness. They wished for the day in Acts 27, you want day but will you obey Jesus Christ, the Sun of righteousness? How is he going to arise in your heart and life if you don’t believe what he’s said and faithfully deliver to you to simply believe?

Goliath scared everyone by what he was saying. It’s easy to get scared, because Satan’s propaganda machine is really in full swing these days. He’s got even the Christians on the run. He even had a shield bearer… well there’s plenty of people out there bearing Goliath’s shield for him. There are people who defend Satan’s cause to the death. But how do you defeat Goliath? God uses smooth stones taken out the brook. We as believers are lively stones, we should be stone like in our nature because we don’t change, we don’t get moved, because we believed in the solid rock… and we’ve had those rough edges taken off in the waters of the brook. God’s word has taken all those rough edges of doubt and unbelief and sin, we’ve been in God’s word, we’ve been in the brook of God’s word… and that’s where David found those stones, in the brook. If you’ve been in God’s word, you can be a stone in God’s sling, and God can use you to literally hit the giant between the eyes. God can use you, just get in his word, anchor your life, your soul, your thinking, anchor yourself to God’s word… it’ll keep you in the storm. That’s what an anchor is for, it’ll stop you from moving around in the storm. It’ll keep you safe, that trusty dependable anchor.

Believe in the anchor today. Jesus Christ is our anchor, you can anchor your life to his word. He can’t lie, he doesn’t lie, he never will lie to you. His word is truth. He came to save us from our sins, he’s your forerunner, because he’s going before in your life, all you need to do is believe him and lay hold on his promises by faith. Choose life, choose the Lord Jesus Christ, believe in the anchor of your soul today.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 32 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
