You Can Count On The Word Of The Lord
2 Kings 9:35 – And they went to bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands.
2 Kings 9:36 – Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the word of the Lord, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel:
2 Kings 9:37 – And the carcase of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel; so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.
You can count count on the word of the Lord. Hello readers, new blog today. Back in 1 Kings 21 there was a man called Naboth who refused to sell king Ahab his vineyard. Naboth was not just within his right to refuse the king’s offer, but he was commanded by God to refuse the offer. They weren’t supposed to sell their land, but give it to their sons, and their son’s sons. It’s never a godly thing to sell out on godly heritage, or to sell out on God’s word. But it cost Naboth his life. Ahab had a wicked wife called Jezebel who helped him get it under religious pretense by setting up false accusers of Naboth, having him stoned… and his family… and thus the land became the king’s. There has been so much wickedness done under the cloak of religion. She got Naboth and his family stoned pretending to be doing it to honor the God of Israel. But she and her crew were a bunch of murderous liars.
It was wicked, its a horrific chapter, 1 Kings 21. You know, the wicked seem to thrive and get by. But they won’t. God sent a preacher to Ahab. A familiar preacher with a familiar message. Maybe you, like him, because of your sin, you hate the preacher of God’s word because he carries the word of God which you just don’t have time or space for. Because you like doing evil, and God’s word exposes your evil. That’s why you hate the Bible, that’s why you hate the man of God, that’s why you hate Jesus Christ. But the preacher, Elijah, found Ahab. And he said by the word of God in 1 Kings 21:23,24 – And of Jezebel also spake the Lord, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel. Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat. What a prophecy. You know, God’s word is prophetic, people have the wrong handle on prophecy, they think it’s people making guesses, no prophecy is the word of God. Because it’s right not just past, not just present, but future. Hey you reject Jesus Christ, you are going to hell.
There was a big old space of time between when Elijah said this, and when this all happened. There was a prophecy regarding Ahab’s demise and also Jezebel’s demise. They lived a lot of life after what Elijah said. It seemed like they had escaped God’s word. Ahab even went out his way to avoid it happening, he sort of reigned his sin in a bit after all this, the Bible said he went softly. But he was unrepentant, and unchanged. He did evil, and his evil wife was a major reason, the Bible says she stirred him up to do evil. What influence do we have on other people? Jezebel had a terrible influence on her husband.
When the new king arose, called Jehu, he had Jezebel killed. He rode into the city and she painted herself up. And he called unto the eunuchs in there with her to chuck her out the window. They did, and she died in the street. God’s word was fulfilled perfectly. They went in to eat and drink then remembered her body was still out there, and because she was “royal”, they said oh we better go and bury her. But the dogs had got to her, they’d eaten her body. What a gruesome story. But you’d struggle to spare a tear for such a wicked woman.
I got away with it! How often people think they’ve gotten away with sin. How often they sin and go on in life and forget all about it. But if you’re not forgiven and washed in the blood of Christ, that sin is chasing you. Back in the Old Testament they had cities of refuge where someone could flee to to escape the avenger of blood. You’d plead your case, and if found guiltless of shed blood, you’d be safe if you stayed in that city from the avenger of blood. People do all sorts of evil, and they don’t realize death and hell are pursuing hard after them. They could flee to the city of refuge, Jesus Christ, but they don’t. Abner died at the gate of a city, he had a guy called Joab who wanted him dead for a long time, and Abner had spoken to the king and gone out thinking he was all good. He’d enjoyed the goodness and grace of David, but he wasn’t saved, he wasn’t safe from Joab. And he died in the gate of the very place he could’ve been saved from Joab! People die so close to salvation, so close to forgiveness, so close to being right with God.
What’s the most sure thing in this life is the word of God. You can count on God’s word. For better or worse, but you can count on it. If you are saved it’s for better. If you are an enemy of God, it’s sure for worse. God gave Ahab and Jezebel a lot of time, more time than we would think they shoulda got, but hell is forever. Why don’t we live like God’s word is the truth, and the authority? Why is it so hard to submit to it? To obey it? Why do you hate God’s word so much?
For better or worse? Well for better. The certainty of scripture is what a true believer pins the hopes of his existence upon. It’s a two edged sword, it’ll save you or sentence you. In Jezebel’s case they remembered God’s word’s truth in terms of judgment, but there are many other times in the Bible things happen, and then they remember what God’s word had said, they saw confirmation of the truth of scripture. God doesn’t need to get up to speed… we do. Remember in Jesus’ life how many times the Bible says this and that fulfilled the scripture. This came to pass, that came to pass, this fulfilled this, this fulfilled that. After Jesus ascended the disciples remembered things that God’s word had said they they saw fulfilled during their lives. In the end God’s word is right. None of his words return unto him void. Not one jot or tittle shall pass from the law till all be fulfilled. John 2:20-22 – Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? But he spake of the temple of his body. When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said. Why does it take so long for God’s word to sink into our hearts, for that good and incorruptible and pure seed to find place in some good ground deep within? Jehu heard what happened, and he said, hey this is the word of the Lord. This is what the Bible said! Everyone who has ever existed will know the sheer truth and magnitude of God’s word in time, just a matter of when and if it’s too late.
Years passed, and Ahab went out to battle. He had convinced Jehoshaphat, a godly king, to go with him. So many times saved people are convinced by unsaved people. Jehoshaphat was pretty stupid and would’ve been killed if not for God’s deliverance. Ahab got Jehoshaphat to dress up in his kingly attire, but Ahab went to battle in disguise. But he wouldn’t escape God’s word. Because a soldier just shot a random arrow and it got him between his armor, and he went away in his chariot, and died. And this is what the Bible says. 1 Kings 22:37 – So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria. And one washed the chariot in the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood; and they washed his armour; according unto the word of the LORD which he spake. Both Ahab and Jezebel’s deaths were exactly as Elijah had said all those years back. God’s word… it was counted upon.
When Jezebel died, it was only after they’d found her eaten by the dogs that they remembered God’s word. You know, all those years maybe they thought it was all a joke. People scoff and mock and poke holes in God’s word. They set God’s word at nought. Remember those soldiers who set Jesus at nought? They made fun of him, they scorned and mocked and laughed at God’s word. But in the end… after you’ve lived your life of sin, after you’ve rejected salvation, after you’ve gone after your pride and lust… you will go to hell, just as God’s word says. You will be judged by God’s word, a standard you can never even think of reaching. You will have no Saviour, who you could’ve had. You will be cast into the lake of fire, cast because you do not want to go… just as the Bible says.
You can count on God’s way whatever you want to look at it. You can count on God’s word if you are saved. Believing it, trusting it… God’s word has the power to change your heart and change a nation. It has personal power and it has corporate power. God’s word is always right. We live in a society and world that does not esteem God’s word as truth, they don’t give a flip for it. You may treat it like a joke. You may do it lip service, you live like it ain’t true. How else could Ahab and Jezebel just keep going on in life if they believed the word of God? God’s word said they were goners. But they were unconcerned, Ahab had a slight worry but he was in his wife’s palm. It’s funny when one sinner reassures another sinner that they will be ok. The amount of people who talk about death saying with such certainty there is no life after death. Like they know! They are talking rubbish.
And Ahab didn’t really change. Just because you do slightly less wrong doesn’t make past wrongs right. Less wrong doesn’t mean anything. You know how people “settle down” after a wild youth… that doesn’t make them better people, that doesn’t make them right with God. If you have sin there, it’s following you. The Bible says of saved people that their works follow them. Well the workers of iniquity, their works follow them. You aren’t getting away with anything. It’s scary. God is the perfect, holy, righteous Judge of all the earth.
You can have sin that’s buried days or months or years or decades of years ago. If it’s not sorted out in repentance… as in a Biblical Holy Ghost repentance that what you did was sin and wicked because you are a black hearted sinner… then the Bible says be sure your sin will find you out. God’s word can be counted on. What is the only thing that is standing at the end? God’s word. Matthew 24:35 – Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
You may think this blog is a pretty tough, it really isn’t at all. God’s word is the truth. If you are an unrepentant sinner, you are in trouble with God. Love is telling people the truth. Ahab thought he’d got by, but Elijah found him. God’s word isn’t changing. We try making God’s word fit into our agendas. But God’s word is the side we have to get on. It’s not changing, instead we have to change to get on the right side of God’s word. When they saw Jezebel’s carcase, just with the hands and feet left by the dogs… they were like, hey God’s word said that. Life proves God’s word to be true in every way. You may not think so, but God’s word is truth. Why people do not take a more active interest in God’s word defies belief. But it’s because we are sinners, we love our sin… and that’s why we don’t want the Bible in our thinking, or mind, or consciousness. God leave me be and let me do what I want.
Perhaps you think you’ve got away with it. You’re so vexed by a life of sin, it just seems like God’s word ain’t true. You mistake God’s longsuffering for God’s word not being bang on. Ecclesiastes 8:11 – Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. You’ve sinned and sinned, and nothing happened. It may take you to get the end of your life to realize God’s word was right. It wasn’t worth it. It may take waking up in hell to realize God’s word was right, it wasn’t worth it. You may burn your marriage before you realize God’s way of living was right. God’s word lingered for a long time in Ahab and Jezebel’s life, Elijah had said what would happen, and years went by. We, like them, can so easily live our lives with no regard for God’s word. God, I’ve got this!
But sure enough, God’s word came to pass. You can count on God’s word. If you are unsaved, the Bible doesn’t have anything good for you, you are in trouble with your Creator. The Bible is warning after warning to repent of your sin and trust in Jesus Christ. But you’ve lived a life calling God a liar, you don’t take God’s word seriously. But you should. Judgement and hell is hot on your heels, but you’re living in your delusion which will be soon shattered. We all need to sit up and take note, to awake to the fact that God’s word is truth. You can count on God’s word, it is the truth, it is the gold standard for truth, it carries the authority of the Creator of the whole show. None of us are escaping the truth of God’s word, you can live a life choosing ignorance and an existence devoid of it’s truth… but it’ll all catch up to you one day soon. Get in the city of refuge… Jesus Christ, he’s the refuge, the only hope for us all. Believe on his name today.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 32 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
