Make My Face Shine

Exodus 34:30 – And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.
Exodus 34:31 – And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them.
Exodus 34:32 – And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that the Lord had spoken with him in mount Sinai.
Exodus 34:33 – And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face.
Exodus 34:34 – But when Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded.
Exodus 34:35 – And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone: and Moses put the vail upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him.
Hello readers, hope you are all going well. Make my face shine. You know, the beauty industry, the look good industry, the improve yourself industry… and such like… they all thrive today. They thrive on people wanting to look good, on people wanting to stand out… on people wanting to shine. If you read the book of Esther, the reason she stood out was because she didn’t dress and paint herself up like all the other girls who were trying to impress the king and win his favor. You can find the true shining for your life today. Are you looking for light? Do you want to reflect that light? The Bible has a very different formula to the world for standing apart, for literally shining.
When Moses came down from the mount Sinai… his face shone. Where is the shining today? Of course, we know that Moses’ face shining is a picture of what a true Christian should be like. If you are saved, your face will shine with the light of Christ. The light that comes to someone when they repent and believe, and when they go on in life following Christ… that light can’t not radiate out from that individual. But for so many people, Christians included, there seems to be no shining there. Why have we lost our light? Why aren’t we shining like Moses did? Maybe because we are not doing what Moses did. He spent time up on the mount with God. Are we spending time with God? Moses was receiving the law and commandments… are we in the word of God, abiding in it, meditating upon it constantly? There’s no magic formula… make my face shine. Well your face can only shine if first God’s face has shone upon you. We don’t have the light in ourselves, Christ has all the light.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to present well… but the order has to be Christ first. He is the most important order of business for our lives. If you want to shine, to truly shine… you need to be right with your Creator. You can’t shine if you’re not right with God. Jesus is the way to stand apart in a dark world, he is the way to have light while others abide in darkness. Moses’ face shone because he’d been with God. He was full of God’s word. It changed him. God’s word cannot not change you if you believe it and receive it by faith. Because with the word comes the person of Christ, the Spirit of God come to lighten your very being. But we are in a Christianity today which has lost it’s light, it’s lost it’s shining. And that is because it’s gone away from the light of God’s word, the light of truth, and in fact from Jesus Christ… who is the Light… and Christianity has instead delved into the darkness of the world. Christians are living in sin, in disobedience, in rebellion. So where there should be light, there is darkness. Where people’s very faces should be shining, the gospel published on their very faces… instead there is darkness. Christianity has departed from God and gone worldly. It’s taken worldly beliefs, worldly ways, worldly thinking, worldly music, worldly dress… and it’s instead brought darkness instead of light. If you go to a dark world, all you get is darkness.
The importance of abiding in Christ is so evident here. Your face, your countenance reflects your spiritual state. Moses had been alone with God, and that had a profound effect on him. Just being with God changes you. Hearing his still small voice through his word… which you can today, whom you have access today will change your very countenance. It can make your face shine. There is no price you can put on being right with your Creator. He is the apex of our existence. He is the purpose of our living. You can and should reflect this truth … 2 Corinthians 3:18 – But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. However most people never see God’s glory, they never are there on mount Sinai… they are instead making golden calves and getting into sin at the foot of the mount. Your countenance will reflect where you are at. Is there a light there that only God can put there? You can be the best looking person, yet have a fallen countenance. You may have a countenance that shows that you are not right with God, which shows you are not dwelling in the light. Cain’s countenance fell remember, because he was not accepted by God and he got angry. Absalom was a good looking man, but he didn’t shine, he was full of darkness.
The true beauty comes when Christ is in you. The light goes past the natural, it’s supernatural light. Having that light in your life makes you stand out like a light in a dark place. But that’s first because the light shone in your dark place to start with. When the Sun of righteousness arises in your heart with healing in his wings… well that’s light flooding into where darkness made it’s abode. The gospel does that. There’s no substitute for the light of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. You can doll yourself up, have as much plastic surgery as you want, you can try everything you want, but only the Holy Spirit can make you radiant inside, and toward others.
Moses was with God up on the mount, receiving the law. He was hearing God speak. And he didn’t realize it was making his face shine. When he came down from the mount, everyone was afraid. He had to put a vail on his face. We know that vail is a picture of how obscured Jesus Christ has been from the Jewish people, that same people who crucified their Messiah. But hopefully that shining isn’t also vailed from you. Is the glory of God hidden from you? Is the shining hidden from you? What’s causing you not to shine? What’s hindering you, what’s instead publishing darkness inside you and towards others? Do you know the shining that comes from being right with God, from abiding in his word?
It all starts with the gospel of Jesus Christ, which if simply believed upon, it will… he will change your life. How can just believing in Jesus Christ change you? His Spirit will come to dwell with you, and with the Spirit of God coming to dwell in you… Jesus Christ dwelling in your heart by faith… that will put a light in you that will never go out. What a light to have, a light that will shine through every facet of our being. Our faces reflect the spiritual truth about us… and there is such a great witness of just our countenance. When they looked on Stephen, whom they set up false witnesses against, whom they were going to stone… his face looked like the face of an angel. Where is the shining today? Maybe it’s because you don’t have the light of God yet in your life. The light is found in the person of Jesus Christ, believe on him today… and that will make your face and my face shine.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 32 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
