Genesis 11:1 – And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
Genesis 11:2 – And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
Genesis 11:3 – And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
Genesis 11:4 – And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
Genesis 11:5 – And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
Genesis 11:6 – And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
Genesis 11:7 – Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.
Genesis 11:8 – So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
Genesis 11:9 – Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
Hello all, long time since a blog! Just taking a few thoughts from the tower of Babel today. Bit of a different type blog, but just a few thoughts. Like what truly unites humanity. Humanity has tried to unite, they find commonality against God, but even then they do not get along. We see in Genesis murder, kingdoms clashing, unrest, harm, evil. Man against fellow man, and ultimately man against God. Jesus himself said in the last days nation would rise up against nation, look at human history and it’s a story of wars and bloodshed. Look whats happening now around the world between nations. This world kingdom, of whom the ruler is Satan, is divided against itself. Satan’s ultimate goals of him being worshipped, of humanity entirely and totally against God has been thwarted by the fact that mankind cannot unite. God himself separated the nations, he told them to spread out and fill the earth, God set the bounds of the nations, but Satan wants to bring people together… against God. There is only one true unity though, and that is found in Jesus Christ, only true believers have true commonality one with another, true fellowship. So when people unite, but not based on the Lord Jesus Christ, it is never a lasting, or truly mutual beneficial, or truly loving, or ultimately successful partnership. Just like Babel here.
The paths are leading back to Babel. If we can take a step back we see global happenings, movements, things all of which Satan is using and once against bring about what started with Nimrod at Babel. Technology has enabled the connectivity of the nations of the earth, overcoming language barriers, overcoming geographical barriers… we see movements such as the ecumenical movement which is the uniting and merging of all the religions of the world. Satan uses mankind, after all sin and death came by Satan, so he is not your friend. He is the ruler, but cruelty, and death, betrayal, lies are his currency. We see globalization, a phenomenon of recent times where a once very divided and separate world is becoming one people and one voice. We see environmentalism, a mechanism by which the world can unite under a common banner, gathering against a perceived common threat against mankind. Broken humanity will finally unite under the beast of Revelation, and the goal of Babel, the mystery of Babylon, it’s city, it’s kingdom, it’s religion will be fulfilled… but then destroyed by the Lord Jesus Christ. This world is Babylon economically, politically and it has it’s religion as well… false religion. It all traces back to Babylon, from whence all the nations were divided by tongues… but all which root back to Babel.
They left off building but they’ll be back many thousands of years later. They’re dead, but the spirit lives on. The spirit behind it is not the Lord Jesus Christ, but the spirit of this world, Satan behind it mobilizing people against God, against the Lord Jesus Christ. These people reflect Satan. They said let us build, let us make ourselves a name. Just like Satan said I will, I will, I will, I will, I will in Isaiah 14. Yet when Jesus came, Jesus said not my will but thine, referring to his Father. But Satan is full of pride, it’s why he fell, and he’s king of the children of pride, us. Their religion was substitute religion, they used slime for mortar and brick for stone… but it wasn’t actually mortar and stone, it did serve as mortar and stone… but it was brick and slime. It was a human concocted religion. It would never reach heaven, it was man’s best attempts to get to heaven, and get there without Jesus Christ, but make it their own way. God had told them to spread out and fill the earth, but their whole purpose was “lest we be scattered”. These guys were totally against the will of God.
Babel was building UP from the ground, but the gospel is God reaching down to us. We see in Genesis when Jacob dreamed… a ladder… that’s the way to heaven. Prepared by God, let down by God, of whom God is the gatekeeper… and that ladder is a picture of Jesus Christ. He is the way to heaven. He said.. I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by me. We read in Revelation of the fall of Babylon and the fall of Mystery Babylon… Babylon totally fallen. Because Jesus Christ has the kingdom, he has all power in heaven and earth. All the lies and best efforts, the schemes, the web that Satan has spun, and of which so much of humanity has been caught up in, will all fall before the light and life and authority and power of Jesus Christ. It is time to leave Babylon, come out from among her, don’t share in her fate. We read in Revelation in her was found the souls of men… after all Nimrod, the founder of Babel… he was a mighty hunter before the Lord… and you have a very real enemy hunting you. This world is going down, it’s why the Bible points us to the world to come, and a new city. There are two kingdoms, you can take the path to Babel, which is also a path to confusion, disappointment, despair, which will never get you to heaven… or you can take the path to heaven, which begins and is founded upon the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. Babel may not be finished, but yet it is finished.
