Arise, Shine!

Isaiah 60:1 – Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.

Matthew 4:16 – The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

Hey all, new blog today, and a brief one… thinking of two words … ARISE… and SHINE. Because that’s salvation in a nutshell. Mankind has a problem… it’s called sin. That’s our issue, it’s what separates us from God, it’s what we are all born with and in. And we need to be saved from our sins.

The first thing Jesus preached was this. Mark 1:14,15 –Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. It’s time to repent. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. The reason why churches and Christians are lifeless and dead is because they never repented of sin, they never got saved. They become Christian by deed, but lack that reality of being convicting of their sin, acknowledging their sin, and confessing it and not just that but turning to Jesus Christ to save them from their sin. Salvation is about being saved… what are we being saved from? Our sin. Jesus’ name means he shall save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21 – And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

So, when we got saved, we arose. We got made alive in Christ. We who were dead in sins, outside the kingdom of God, alienated from God totally, in darkness, in wickedness, DEAD in trespasses and sins… we arose from the dead… because Christ arose, and his Spirit came to dwell in us reviving us from the death. Lazarus was bound, dead, in darkness, with a stone rolled on the mouth of the cave… that’s what we all are, and were, but then a day came when Jesus came (he did to me) and he said… Roll the stone away. In Ezekiel 37, Ezekiel saw a valley of dry bones… God asked him… can these bones live? He said to God, Lord thou knowest. Well newsflash, the dead can live. Salvation is a miracle, it is the power of God. So we can arise! In newness of life. Emerging from the blackness of our past dead, wicked, hopeless, lost life, and we can arise, because the light has come! That’s what this verse is about, Arise, shine… for thy light is come. It’s good news, its the gospel, today, you can arise, you can shine for God… because Jesus has come to you lighting your heart with the knowledge of him. All it takes is the power of God… just say the word Lord and I can live. And he will say the word… a leper came to Jesus, he said to Jesus… if thou wilt thou canst make me clean. Jesus said back to him… I will, be thou clean… and his leprosy was cleansed instantly. Jesus’ will is that noone should perish, he wants people saved, he wants to have mercy, he came to seek and save the lost, and to call sinners to repentance. And there is great joy in heaven when one lost sinner repents.

So we can arise, when we get saved, we arise out of our death, out of our sleep. We can arise in newness of life, we are in his kingdom now, in the kingdom of God. Colossians 1:13 – And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. Ephesians 5:14 – Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. It’s time to arise! The light has come. John 1:4 – In him was life; and the life was the light of men. That’s Jesus Christ. John 1:9 – That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

He is the light of the world. This world lies in wickedness the Bible says… but Jesus is the light in it, his grace has appeared to all men, and is upon humanity, all goodness is from God. Jesus is God. Jesus is the source of all good fruit. His grace to mankind. Even while we hate him he is gracious to us, of great longsuffering and mercy. After all… 1 John 4:10 – Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. And… 1 John 4:19 – We love him, because he first loved us. And when we are lighted by him, and come to him, we come to the light, we arise out of sleep, out of death. He does all this for us! We just believe, he does and did all the work. It was finished at the cross. The sins of the world, yours and mine, were nailed to his tree, he bore them, and he has the power to forgive us, and his blood cleanses us from all sin.

And because he lights us, we can then shine. Philippians 2:15 – That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world. Matthew 5:14-16 – Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Well, I can’t say it all better than God’s word says it. If you are in him, and him in you, you have great light, in fact the light of the world in you. Let your light shine! Obey God, be right with him, get your sin under his blood, submit and yield to him, love God, and hence you can love one another. And your light will shine brightly. John the Baptist was a burning and a shining light. It’s not our light, it’s him… he is the light, we are just the vessel, those broken pitchers Gideon and his army held, that when smashed, the light shone from inside and put the VAST army of Midian to flight. Jesus is victorious, he has overcome the world, he WON. All power is his in heaven and earth. He is God. So get right with your Creator. Go to the light… sure, the light reveals, but revealing is good, sin can be exposed and dealt with, and when you’re right with God, the light can’t shine bright enough. And it’s blessedness… truth might be salt at the start, but it turns to light, it is life. Proverbs 4:18 –  But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

So it is time to arise… it is time to shine… for thy light has come, and the glory of God has risen upon thee. Make it your own reality today. Jesus died for you, he died for me. And he rose from the dead for you, and rose from the dead for me. That is the gospel. He saved me from my sins, and he can save you from your sins. All glory to the Lord Jesus Christ.
