He Came By Water And Blood

1 John 5:6 – This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

1 John is a great book of assurance for the believer. 1 John 5:13 – These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 1 John is also a great book for discerning the Spirit of God, which is truth, from all the other spirits, which lead into error. The Spirit of God bears witness of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Any spirit that denies the Lord Jesus Christ in any way, shape or form is not the Spirit of God. The Spirit of God is truth, the Bible says we worship in spirit and truth, the Spirit guides us into truth, it does not guide us based on feelings, experiences and emotions, but on the truth of God’s word. Although feelings and emotions are nice, basing your salvation and your life on fuzzy mystic feelings and encounters instead of the truth of God’s word will land you in big, big trouble. The first time feeling (felt) is mentioned in the Bible is when Jacob tricked Isaac into giving him Esau’s blessing. Do not let a familiar spirit exploit you, trick you, beguile you, and rob you of receiving the blessing of salvation. Do not let a familiar spirit lead you all the way to hell.

The Bible makes it very, very clear that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of the God. We can compare the term ‘Son of God’, to the ‘sons of God’ to better understand this fact. In the Bible we see the term ‘sons of God’ used to refer to angelic, heavenly beings. The Bible also refers to Adam as the son of God. It is important to note the little ‘s’. Neither the angels, nor Adam, nor anything else, are referred to as the capital ‘S’ Son of God. In Genesis 6, we see the sons of God as agents of corruption in rebellion and disobedience to God. In Job, we see that the sons of God are accountable and answerable to God. Angels can sin, they are fallible, and they are created. Jesus cannot sin, Jesus cannot fail, and Jesus is not created. Anything apart from God is created. Jesus was not created because he is God. We also see that we as believers are the sons of God. In the New Testament, via the new birth, being born again of the Spirit of God, we become sons of God. Now are we the sons of God. We are sons by adoption – Galatians. We become the sons of God because we are baptized into Jesus Christ. He is in us, and us in him. But we are not the Son of God, and we do not become God. The Bible is very clear that Jesus is God, and Jesus is the Son of God. The reason why Jesus Christ is called the Son of God (note the capital ‘S’), is because he is not just another son of God, he is THE Son of God, because He is God. 1 John 5:7 – For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. Satan, his angels and his followers hate this verse because it shows that Jesus is God, and they are not God. This verse exalts, magnifies, and praises the Lord Jesus Christ, it eliminates all others. It gives glory to Jesus Christ as God. It exalts God alone. Any Bible with this verse removed has been corrupted by a spirit that is not of God, a spirit of error. Jesus is the second person of the Godhead, the Word. Jesus is the Word of God. We see that Jesus is God. We see that Jesus is the Son of God. John 1:14 – And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. He is the Son of God because he is God. This is why he is the only begotten Son. He was made flesh. God was made flesh. The difference between Jesus and all other sons of God is that Jesus is God, and therefore not a son of God, but The Son of God.

This brings us to 1 John 5:6 which says that Jesus came by water and blood. This is referring to the truth that the Word was made flesh. God became man. God came into this world as man. The Word came by water and blood. Jesus was fully God, and fully man. We cannot understand this in our limited, finite minds, but this is the Bible truth. Hebrews 2:14 – Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same. In John 3, Jesus said unless a man be born of water and of the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Jesus was born of water. He physically came into this world. This is staggering, to think that God himself became man, he became as one of us. John the Baptist said, But there standeth one among you, whom ye know not. We cannot know except God reveals him to us through his word. The truth of God’s word reveals the Lord Jesus Christ to us. He is the Lamb of God. He was perfect, sinless, undefiled, incorruptible. He died for us and lives for us. The whole Bible bears witness of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Bible is very easy to understand when you see Jesus in every page, the written Word bearing witness of the Living Word. 1 John uses words like ‘witness’ and ‘record’ because our faith is not blind, abstract and baseless. It is based on the truth of God’s word, which he says he has magnified above his name. We have the truth. We have assurance. We have something that can be fully trusted. We can be saved and know it. We can know our Saviour. The water, the blood and the Spirit agree. The Spirit bears witness that Jesus is the Son of God, that Jesus Christ was made flesh and dwelt among us. The heavenly witness and the earthly witness bear record, and they agree. The way of salvation is available and known to us. We have the witness of God. We have the more sure word of prophecy. We have not followed cunningly devised fables. We are without excuse.

John 19:34,35 – But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe. Jesus’ blood was shed for us on the cross, it is what paid the price for our sins. Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. Only His perfect, sinless, incorruptible blood could pay the price for our sins. Only Jesus had that blood to give. Only His blood is sufficient. Jesus is our only hope. Jesus is also our water, he is our life. We need the water that he gives. He is the fountain of living waters. Jesus said to the woman at the well in John 4:10 – If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. Jesus gives the water of life, the water that revives us, that restores us, that satisfies our thirst. We live through him, because of him, by him. We are sons of God because we are adopted by him. He has shed forth abundant grace and mercy on us. He came by water and blood. We need his water and his blood. And forthwith flowed blood and water. At Calvary, the fountain was opened, the fountain was opened in the victorious death of Jesus Christ. And he lives. This is just as important. We only live because he lives. It was not possible that death could hold him. He was sinless, he was guiltless. His sacrifice of himself was accepted. He is God. He is eternal. We live, because he lives. When we receive rain from the heaven, we can remember that Jesus came from heaven. He was from above, we are from beneath. He is the rain on the dry and barren land. He will save and satisfy the thirsty. He gives life and gives life more abundantly.

John said, These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. Jesus wasn’t just a son of God, He is the Son of God, because he is the Word, He is God. It is important to note the verses that precede 1 John 5:6. 1 John 5:4,5 – For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? Have faith and you will be an overcomer. Believe in the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, who came by water and blood.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 32 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
