How Long Since You Did It As It Was Written?

How Long Since You Did It As It Was Written?

2 Chronicles 30:5 “So they established a decree to make proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beersheba even to Dan, that they should come to keep the passover unto the Lord God of Israel at Jerusalem: for they had not done it of a long time in such sort as it was written.”

How long since you did it as it was written? That’s the “sort” of Christianity this nation needs!

Here from 2 Chronicles 30, is something from Beersheba EVEN to Dan needs to hear and obey. It’s Bible truth that applies to us all, just as Hezekiah sent posts inviting all to “come” as Jesus Christ does this day you also.

Will you come to Jesus? And will you do it as was written.

With that scene set lets go to 2 Chronicles, 30, where in this chapter we find king Hezekiah, who is in the middle of leading the nation in repairing, restoring and reviving the worship and service of God in Judah.

He’s a godly king, and we need some men of God who will follow his lead today!

You think you got excuses? Well, he did! In chapter 29, he inherited a ruinous mess made by his own father, which you can read all about in chapter 28… but Hezekiah decided as a young man that what his dad did, and the kind of man his father was… that wasn’t going to be his life.

Inertia is pretty strong isn’t it… it can be hard to turn around the ship especially as the years and lost time and well established patterns of behaviour set in “This hath been thy manner from thy youth, that thou obeyedst not my voice.”

We don’t need sharers, we don’t need intellectuals, and we don’t need men conformed by the world… we know from cross reference that Hezekiah had some godly preachers around him, like Micah and Isaiah for instance, and boy did they have some sermons! but rather than getting offended by preaching of God’s word, Hezekiah as a young man listened and acted. What he had power over, which in this case was the kingdom, he brought to heel of Jesus Christ.

Hezekiah was a doer of the word, not just a hearer. What we do and don’t do matters. And please note, he’s only 25 years old when he embarks on obeying God’s word… stop waiting for sometime in the future to book obedience to God’s word and attention to God’s matters in… it doesn’t work like that. There’s plenty of older people on the shelf and out to pasture, as as you go along in life you’ll realize to dismay that many seniors past it with God and God is speaking to the next generation, not them.

You know the only time God accepts… it’s NOW. And Hezekiah as soon as he became king he put God first, and got straight to the matter at hand. The Bible says remember thy Creator in the days of thy youth, Hezekiah did that.

And Hezekiah set about doing what our nation needs to do. He doesn’t assemble the baddies you might think of, like the greedy, the nasty, the pimps, the druggies, the boozers, the people you might feel like you’re a little more in order than… no, Hezekiah got the priests and the Levites… the people called by God’s name, the people supposed to know God and be serving him… he got them together and in the street he tells them, guys you’ve gotta listen up, you gotta clean this filth up, you’ve gotta get nasty stuff out of your house and life, you have to set yourself to serve God, you’ve gotta get in line with his word… NOW. The nations not going to fix until God’s people called by his name get some things straight that the crooked serpent bent out of shape.

2 Timothy 2:19 “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

… because things had slipped a long way from where they were supposed to be. And while you may have changed, know this, God didn’t move with you. He’s still where he always has been. “Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.”

God’s same old word hasn’t changed, all that changes is who and how you are in relation to it and him. Never forget that, because John talks about it in his first epistle.

And so Hezekiah’s example of turning Judah back to serving God gives a great template for how our nation will be fixed. And it’s not in politics and expecting worldly people not to be worldly, it’s in the professing Christians stopping messing around with religious games, turning the things of God into a religious riddle, and instead they get saved, sealed and sanctified to God… Our nation’s problem is it’s professing Christians. That’s why we are in this mess, this is why our nation is fumbling in darkness with blind leading the blind.

And sanctification isn’t fake holiness and piety… what it is is if you’re saved, you should want to separate yourself to God’s glory and God’s purpose in your life… and you might be a lot happier person if you do so too. Living for self will always disappoint no matter how far your selfish life seems to be escaping earth’s stratosphere for now… living for God will help you to be happy when there’s nothing to be happy about. True purpose in this world is found only in Christ, no matter how much of your own purpose you have made of it all, anything otherwise is entirely and ultimately utter vanity, that’s what Solomon found out, and he was richer, wiser, and more well experienced and well read than you… so we’ll take his take on it yeah?

And so in chapter 29, it’s the priests and the Levites who clean house, and get things in order how God said things were to be ordered. One big thing about what Hezekiah did is that he went back to what David did, from many generations ago. He also fixed the music too, and there will be no Christian victory without getting all this rubbish worldly fake Christian music out the churches which strokes and soothes the senses and flesh, but has zero spiritual value.

And how about getting back to the King James Bible? Stop with the lame thees and thous argument… while you put your special pronouns in your bio. Thees and thous is just “right” English. And you are smart enough to read it, and if you’re not, then don’t argue with someone who is? All this “change” that has gone in modern Christianity is not God ordained, it’s come from people like Ahaz who modernized and made everything “easier”… not people like Hezekiah.

One thing we read about Hezekiah, which defined his life, was that he did “that which was right in the sight of the Lord”. There’s so much in that phrase! He did right! And what’s right? Well, what God’s word says in Psalm 33:4 “For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth” That’s how you do what’s right in a world that’s so wrong.

And you know what Hezekiah was not? He was not a man pleaser. He did what he did >in the sight of the Lord<, because you should care a lot more about what the Lord sees than what man sees.

And so now we get to near where we quoted from. After the priests and Levites were in order, see you have to get right before you have any part in helping others get right, but now Hezekiah in chapter 30 wants to extend invitation to everyone to come to keep the Passover… the passover of which we read “For they had not done it of a long time in such sort as it was written”

Goodness me. Well, this really does preach itself. Is it any different today? For such a long time, we’ve not been doing things as the Bible says. So many professing Christians have a religion that is nothing like the pure and undefiled religion of the Bible. And no, I know you interpret that automatically as I have an exclusive angle and nobody else does. Not true, I’m saying in accordance with the Bible, the Bible being right, that what is expected of every Christian is to “do” Christianity as it was written, not as you have made it to be.

If your Christianity is not how the Bible says it is to be, then it is not wrong, you are in the wrong. And this is why there is no power. Because while you may name the name of Christ, God reserves the right not to place his name where you may place his name. Just because you call yourself Christian does not mean the power of the risen Christ dwells in you. That’s why there’s so much dead Christianity. They’ve got the name, but not the power of a risen life with Christ. Because God does not add his power to you manufacturing a Christianity you like and you know this world won’t persecute you for.

All through Deuteronomy God said… offer to me in the place where I choose to place my name. God doesn’t get in line with us, we get in line with him. He doesn’t gather to you, we are all meant to gather to him. And that’s pretty cool hey, because we are all little lost sheep meant to come to the same Saviour. You’re wrong, I’m wrong, everyone’s wrong… let God be true and every man a liar.

And so how about we take this cue from God’s word? Do it like the Bible says to do it! It isn’t that hard. In fact, you should see the joy that broke out in this chapter when people finally did things God’s way. It’ll change your life, he will change your life. Just do it as it was written.

Do Christianity “as it was written”! It doesn’t need rewriting… it just needs a heart which says Who art thou Lord, and what wilt thou have me to do? Is it that hard to read God’s word, believe and obey it?

But maybe you’re just like the people that this invitation to come keep the passover was sent to… many laughed the posts to scorn and mocked the messengers Hezekiah sent with such a gracious invitation to return to serving God with him. Or maybe, just maybe at this time of your, your hearts desire is longing to get back to Christianity as it was written not what the spirit of 2026 made it and wants it and makes it fashionable to be… well, now is the time to do so, make it, make him first of all, exactly as Hezekiah did.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 33 y/o Bible Blogger from Adelaide, South Australia. God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to share it with others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s Jesus Christ’s faith far more than my own! Because he is faithful. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and by God’s grace I anchor my soul to it. My destination is heaven. As they say, this world is not my home, I’m just a passin’ through… although most of the time I feel more like I’m hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports, I currently work on an orchard and one of my main hobbies/interests is growing vegetables. I love writing. I’m always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment on my blog or through email! My blog is inspired by Isaiah 2, and Isaiah’s vision of the last days when all nations will flow unto the Lord’s house, in a future time where everyone will love to hear God’s word and walk in light of Lord. And it is my hope that my blog will “strengthen the brethren” and “feed my sheep” as Jesus told Peter. Whether you visit once or regularly, I hope my blog is of some benefit to you on your journey of life! It’s a long journey, but with Christ you will make it to the other side.
