Christmas 2023

Hebrews 10:5 “Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:”

It’s Christmas day! And hopefully anyone reading this has a blessed day with their loved ones.

At Christmas we nominally at least remember the birth of Christ… and here’s something cool you may never have considered!

In the Old Testament, God chose to dwell in the holy place in the tabernacle and then the temple.

And there’s a lot that could be said about that, after all… how really could God be contained in a building… but yet for a time that was where he chose to meet his people there behind a thick veil, the strictest of protocols and many sacrifices.

But that wasn’t the ultimate plan. Because then God decided to dwell in a temple of a human body, and so when Jesus Christ was born, that was God dwelling in a human body.

John 2:21 “But he spake of the temple of his body.”

We all dwell in a body. A body that gets aches and pains and ages and dies. It’s our house for our life here on earth that we dwell in for a short period of time. And God took part in the same.

And for a relatively very short period of time God in the flesh walked the earth as a man doing good, healing the sick, cleansing the lepers, and preaching the gospel.

He was a light in the world, a light to humanity as he was the only man to ever walk this earth who never sinned, someone who could finally reconcile humanity’s broken connection to God.

But before he died on the cross, Jesus started telling his disciples something that they couldn’t understand and bothered them greatly…

… That he was going away and it was better for them that he was. And they were like… what!? And we might all ask… what could be better than having Jesus here with us?

But it’s because God was moving dwelling place again. Jesus ascended to heaven and disappeared to the world… but not before he had made the promise to return in Spirit and be with us forever never to forsake or leave us.

Nowadays, when any person gets truly saved by trusting in Christ to save them from their sin, they receive that promise. And Jesus comes to dwell in their heart forever. Our body is his house, our heart his dwelling place! Pretty mind blowing hey!

1 Corinthians 3:16 “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”

Ephesians 3:17 “That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,”

At Christmas time we remember God entering his own creation in a human body, but the intent to which he was born was so that we could be born again.

Hopefully his birth has resulted in your second birth. Jesus seeks to dwell with us now rather than in some past event thousands of years ago. … May we all make sure we are his house… not empty house!

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 33 y/o Bible Blogger from Adelaide, South Australia. God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to share it with others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s Jesus Christ’s faith far more than my own! Because he is faithful. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and by God’s grace I anchor my soul to it. My destination is heaven. As they say, this world is not my home, I’m just a passin’ through… although most of the time I feel more like I’m hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports, I currently work on an orchard and one of my main hobbies/interests is growing vegetables. I love writing. I’m always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment on my blog or through email! My blog is inspired by Isaiah 2, and Isaiah’s vision of the last days when all nations will flow unto the Lord’s house, in a future time where everyone will love to hear God’s word and walk in light of Lord. And it is my hope that my blog will “strengthen the brethren” and “feed my sheep” as Jesus told Peter. Whether you visit once or regularly, I hope my blog is of some benefit to you on your journey of life! It’s a long journey, but with Christ you will make it to the other side.
