Has Knowing About Jesus Made Any Difference To Your Life?

2 Peter 1:8 “For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

In 2 Peter 1, the apostle Peter writes about “things” that are meant to be added to our faith.

You have faith in Christ? Good, I hope you do.

But faith is just the starting point, because “things” are meant to be added to our faith… “things” such as virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and charity!

They all sound like pretty good attributes and characteristics to have! … if we had them!

Because for many of us, myself definitely included… our faith that we profess can be sorely lacking in some or all of these things… and that means something is wrong.

… Because the key thing about Christianity, which we often miss, is that what we believe is meant to change our life.

It really doesn’t matter what you believe if what you believe hasn’t done a thing to you or for you.

Most people know about Jesus dying for them and many people intellectually believe in “Jesus”… yet for most people, even hardline Christians… that knowledge of Christ hasn’t made a shred of difference to who they are and what they do.

… so what is that knowledge worth? And the Bible here is telling us how to not end up living a life knowing all about Jesus and yet being totally barren and unfruitful even having that knowledge.

The thing is, Christianity isn’t about having a set of x, y, z beliefs and being right while everyone else is wrong…

… And Christianity isn’t about God necessarily changing our circumstances or situations either…

Christianity is about God changing us… and he begins that process from the moment we first believe.

And then as we grow as a Christian our life should possess these things…

And the truth is, as Christians, we have to have these things of our life! Because if they’re not there, our Christian life is going to be an empty, hypocritical dead chore… even while we know all about Jesus.

And finally, it may be worth considering this… which is that if our faith we profess hasn’t added to our own life… then honestly, there really is no way our faith will add to anyone else’s life either.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 33 y/o Bible Blogger from Adelaide, South Australia. God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to share it with others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s Jesus Christ’s faith far more than my own! Because he is faithful. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and by God’s grace I anchor my soul to it. My destination is heaven. As they say, this world is not my home, I’m just a passin’ through… although most of the time I feel more like I’m hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports, I currently work on an orchard and one of my main hobbies/interests is growing vegetables. I love writing. I’m always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment on my blog or through email! My blog is inspired by Isaiah 2, and Isaiah’s vision of the last days when all nations will flow unto the Lord’s house, in a future time where everyone will love to hear God’s word and walk in light of Lord. And it is my hope that my blog will “strengthen the brethren” and “feed my sheep” as Jesus told Peter. Whether you visit once or regularly, I hope my blog is of some benefit to you on your journey of life! It’s a long journey, but with Christ you will make it to the other side.
