We Need The Vision!

Isaiah 1:1 “The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.”

This is the very first verse from the book of Isaiah. It’s a big book, 66 chapters, and largely prophetic in nature.

Isaiah saw and wrote a long time before many of things which he prophesied would happen actually did happen.

We now look back on many of his writings in a historical sense as fulfilled, like his many references to Jesus Christ’s first advent… but at the time of writing, they hadn’t happened yet!

And this is one reason why the Holy Bible is a divine book, because it foretells history before it happens, and not in a vague “can’t be falsified” horoscope type sense, but down to minutest details.

Isaiah covered a decent span of time, he was a prophet during the time of four different kings of Judah.

And the keyword in this first verse is “vision”. Vision means “seeing”.

God’s word gave Isaiah vision, that’s how he saw, and that is how we must all see too.

The Bible says in Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”

Vision is crucial to us all. Practically speaking, we rely on our vision every day. In driving our car, making decisions for ourselves and our families, in seeing up the field who to kick the football to in sport.

And the success of our lives depends on how good our vision is. Before you do drugs, do you see addiction? Before you drink, do you see alcoholism and car wreck? Before you commit adultery, do you see divorce?

The problem is, we all lack vision and can be very near sighted… but God’s word sees everything, the here and now, the future, and forever… and that perfectly.

And so Isaiah didn’t just see the true state of his own nation and what was coming as a result of rejecting God’s word, but he saw further ahead all the way to the new heavens and the new earth.

Ultimately though, like with Isaiah, the vision of God’s word takes our eyes to seeing his Son Jesus Christ for ourselves. All vision of scripture always points us to salvation through Jesus.

Because you must see Jesus and believe for yourself. As it is written in Isaiah 45:22 “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.”

If you read Isaiah 53, considered the pinnacle of this book, you will see Jesus Christ dying for our sins, because that’s what our lives here and now, and all the future hinges entirely upon.

Do you have that vision? If we would check the weather radar to “see” the rain before it arrives, why wouldn’t we check out the Bible to see standing before God before it arrives?

Sure, maybe you reject Christ for now, and that’s looking like it’s working out so far, well Judah thought it was working out for them too in Isaiah’s time… but do you have the vision of down the road to what that Christ denying life will look like on your dying day when it’s too late?

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 33 y/o Bible Blogger from Adelaide, South Australia. God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to share it with others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s Jesus Christ’s faith far more than my own! Because he is faithful. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and by God’s grace I anchor my soul to it. My destination is heaven. As they say, this world is not my home, I’m just a passin’ through… although most of the time I feel more like I’m hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports, I currently work on an orchard and one of my main hobbies/interests is growing vegetables. I love writing. I’m always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment on my blog or through email! My blog is inspired by Isaiah 2, and Isaiah’s vision of the last days when all nations will flow unto the Lord’s house, in a future time where everyone will love to hear God’s word and walk in light of Lord. And it is my hope that my blog will “strengthen the brethren” and “feed my sheep” as Jesus told Peter. Whether you visit once or regularly, I hope my blog is of some benefit to you on your journey of life! It’s a long journey, but with Christ you will make it to the other side.
