Revelation 22:20 – He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
Hello readers, are you ready for what’s next? Hope you’re having a good start to a new week, and I was thinking about this verse in Revelation. What is next? The coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is what is next.
Are you ready for it? If you are not ready, you are in big trouble. The day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night for the unsaved. But if you are saved, that day will not come as a thief, because you are not in darkness, and you are looking for a blessed hope, not the holy wrath and judgment and anger of God.
At the end of the Bible “surely I come quickly”. That’s what next. There is no more chapters. There is no more books. This is the end of the Bible, and with the finished and full and final revelation of God through his word, what’s next is consequences and accountability for what we did with the Bible and truth and light God gave us.
God left us his book, and his Spirit. And many have rejected his book and his Spirit. They live as though Jesus is not coming back, they live as though they will not face God one day. They are not ready, they are not prepared, they will not stand.
We’ve been given everything. We’ve been given the Bible. We’ve been given Jesus Christ. We’ve been given forgiveness. We’ve been given eternal life. We’ve been given the Holy Spirit. We’ve been given time. We’ve been given opportunity. We are without excuse.
What is next is the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. What that looks like I don’t entirely know, I don’t know when it is, but it sure does look near. What I do know is that the coming of Jesus Christ is very different for the believer compared to the unbeliever. And the coming of Christ is different to those who have obeyed and trusted Christ, and those who have been disobedient and neglected what mattered. Imagine Christ coming and having left undone those things which you ought have done. What a terrible thought.
Increasingly so, I have realized the truth of only what’s done for Christ, only what honours God, only what glorifies the Son of God really matters. God’s business is what matters, mind his business, make him your business. Leave all, forsake all, and follow him. Put him first. I’ve been given a short window of time to honour God, and I’ve been wasting it. To look back on a wasted life, wasted time, lost years, it’s a terrible thought. We should be investing in the kingdom that is to come, but instead we invest in the kingdom which will be done away with.
Is your life ready for what is next? Are you ready to stand before God? Are you ready to give account of your life? Are you ready to be judged? The Bible commands us to judge and examine ourselves now, so we can be ready for the day of judgment and not be ashamed and embarrassed and suffer loss.
Has God’s word been enough for you? For most people it is not. They’re looking for more. But there is no more. This is the final chapter, and we are left with the words of “surely I come quickly”. Jesus Christ is returning, and as he said, when he comes, will he find faith on the earth?
If you are wanting more, there is nothing more, and the only thing wanting is you. You will be found wanting by Christ having disregarded his testimony that he left you, that he entrusted you with, but which you neglected, denied, and disobeyed. There are no more revelations, the next thing is THE revelation of Jesus Christ. And what will that revelation look like for you if you are unsaved? Exactly this.
2 Thessalonians 1:7 – And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
2 Thessalonians 1:8 – In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 Thessalonians 1:9 – Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
The revelation of the flood was preached and yet hidden from the world of Noah’s day. And that day of the Lord came upon them like a thief. They were so busy with their lives, pursuits, pleasures and so on, that day came on them like a thief in the night. They were not ready. They were not prepared. And they were sunk. Likewise today, the fiery judgment of God has been revealed to them, yet it is hidden to them because they are blinded by unbelief and by Satan.
They trouble believers now, but they will be troubled by God soon. Paul was writing to a church that was being greatly troubled, greatly tried, greatly tested… but he spoke of a day coming, a day sooner than has ever been before this moment, where God will trouble them and we as those who believed in Jesus Christ will have the promised rest. It will be worth it to have believed the Bible and obeyed it.
What’s next is that Jesus Christ is coming back. He’s coming back for his church, all those who believed in him… and he’s coming back to destroy the wicked. He’s coming back to rule and reign, and that’s what he left us with. He’s given us the complete revelation of himself in his word. We have no excuse, we have the Bible, we have the full revelation of God to faith. But did you trust his word? Or did you deny him. Did you call him a liar? Do you think he’s lying about his return?
We have the Bible. We are told that today is the day of salvation. We are told that NOW is the accepted time. We are told to harden not our hearts while it is TODAY. Believe while there is time. Trust God while there is time. Obey him while there is time. There is a verse in Jeremiah which says this “The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.” One day your little window of time God gave you,in which the invitation found in this final chapter was extended to you, it will be done. When God shut Noah in the ark, it was too late, even while the first rain drops were falling, even while the first earth tremors were rumbling. Too late.
Today is the day to believe the Bible, the word of God. What’s next is “surely I come quickly”. What a terrifying thought of not being ready and prepared for what’s next. Jesus told us to fear God rather than man. Man can only kill your body, God can cast you into hell forever. It doesn’t need to be that way. It doesn’t need to be terrible for you. You can be saved, you can be right with God now, while there is time, while there is hope, while it is not too late. As already mentioned, the invitation of the ages is in the final chapter of Revelation, and here it is. And please believe that invitation, please believe on Jesus Christ and be saved today. And this invitation is for you so you can be ready and right for what’s next.
Revelation 22:16 – I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
Revelation 22:17 – And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 30 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
