Righteousness Exalteth A Nation

Proverbs 14:34 – Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

Hello readers, been thinking about this verse recently. Righteousness exalts a nation. Have you noticed that our nation is the opposite of exalted? We’re in decline, we’re going backwards, and it’s all because we’ve gone away from righteousness. We’ve departed from what is right. And it’s destroying us. In every sphere of life we’ve departed from what is right, what is true, what is godly and we’ve instead gone after sin instead of righteousness. Look at our society, sin is something we are proud of, it’s something that we justify and validate and have made to “righteous”.

We and our society and our nation try to exalt ourselves through anything and everything but obeying God’s word. And that’s why though we try to exalt ourselves, just like Satan, we are doomed to a great fall, just as he fell. The only way our nation, or any nation, has ever been exalted is through righteousness. The more right a society or nation is, the more it is exalted. Did you know that freedom is only possible with law? Without law you have nothing. Without righteousness the nation has nothing, you’re not even safe to walk the streets. Think of how unsafe it was in Sodom when Lot and his guests were not even safe in their own home.

Historically, even nations which were not necessarily godly, they had laws and principles in place, which they founded their society upon which were a function of a conscience and knowledge of God that God has put in every man. Every nation needs law, it needs a clearly defined right and wrong, because that is what required for everyone to live in peace and function as a society. But many nations departed from everything and anything that was right and eventually became anti righteous in every single sphere and issue of life. Like today, everything that is right is called wrong and everything that is wrong is called right.

When Israel obeyed God’s word, they were the head of the nations. But when they rejected God’s word and forsook the principles and commandments and judgments therein, their nation quickly declined. They lost their righteousness, they chose sin over righteousness because they loved sin. And they became the tail. They were conquered and enslaved constantly. Righteousness exalted them, and sin brought a reproach.

The more a nation inculcates the righteousness of God into their laws, and policies, and way their society is run, the more that nation is exalted.  A country like the United States of America founded a nation based on principles of God’s word, they had a standard of righteousness that came from God’s word, and that exalted that nation. But look at the decline now, because in every sphere of life, God and his word and his righteousness has been turfed in favour of sin. And now a great reproach is on the land, just ask people what they think of the USA.

I live in Australia, and our nation also was once exalted. The very first sentence of our constitution references “Almighty God”. We weren’t exalted for any reason other than having some form of conscience and being minded to uphold that which is right. But now we voted for same sex marriage, now we’ve got abortion, now we’ve got drag queens in schools, now we teach evolution to kids. And our nation is disappearing fast. Our nation is not exalted anymore, it is a reproach, a stink, a hissing, it chose sin over righteousness, and thus it’s got a reproach rather than being exalted.

What exalts a nation is righteousness. The more we found our laws and way of life on God’s word, the more we enter into the blessing that is associated with a higher standard of living. God made it that way, so of course it works when done God’s way. But because we love our sin and are hard hearted, that righteousness has become unrighteousness. Our nation one had a consciousness of God and God’s laws. You look at the ten commandments, and guess what, they make for a safe and happy and prosperous society. If you look at the two greatest commandments of loving God and you neighbour, if we just heeded those laws and loved God and others rather than just loving self, our nation would be exalted.

The solution for our nation lies not with political reform and more false promises and more false hope and more unrighteousness. The solution for our nation is getting back to righteousness. God’s righteousness. Because that is the only righteousness that is actually righteous. And getting back to that begins in the pulpits, not in parliament. It’s when the pulpits once again become the pillar and ground of truth as they are meant to be, that our nation has a hope of being exalted again. In the meantime, we will keep declining, because we’ve chosen our own righteousness, which is unrighteous. The best righteousness you have without God is rank unrighteousness.

Sin is a reproach to ANY people. Just think about that for a second. I’ve often been told “get with the times” and “it’s the 21st century now” to justify sin. As if that justifies and validates unrighteousness. As if righteousness is subject to change, as if truth changes with the time. Does not killing, stealing and committing adultery ever go out of date? Is there ever a society where that’s fine? The answer is no. We bought the lie of changing truth, of evolving truth, because now evolution is in our schools rather than the Bible. We would rather teach children they came from an ape then the ten commandments. Think of how degraded you have got to be at that point.

It’s actually madness. And our nation will be laid desolate for removing God from our nation. Without God all you have is reprobation and ultimately desolation. The abomination of desolation is where finally all trace of God and anything that is God, and thus anything that is right and salt and light and true is gone. And when that is gone, then that Wicked shall be revealed. You know, the only thing holding back this world from full Satanic control is the Christians, is truth, is the word of God. One day soon, the Christians will be taken out and this world will follow and worship the beast they have so craved.

The Bible says sin is a reproach to any people. Doesn’t matter what generation. Sin is still sin people. Sodomy is a reproach as much now as it was in the days of Lot. Sexual perversion is as much as reproach as ever before. It doesn’t matter how contemporary the people or society or nation is, because everyone thinks they’re smarter and greater than their predecessors. But the Bible says sin is a reproach to “any” people. Doesn’t matter what nation, what society, what time… sin is still sin, right is still right, wrong is still wrong. End of story.

If you’re looking to exalt your life, you need to get back to God. And the righteousness of God is found in the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. When you find Jesus, you find righteousness. He did no sin. He rose from the dead. And his word will provide you with a standard for living that this world cannot offer. Holiness, purity, perfection, they’re all dirty words because we love our sin so much. We are that degraded, not exalted, we are that deep, not high, all while we think we are pretty good. Man’s best attempts at exalting himself end in hellfire. The lowest hell for the lofty and proud and unrepentant and self righteous.

Psalm 33:4 says “For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth.” What’s right in this world that is all wrong? God’s word. In God’s word, in the gospel of Jesus Christ, is the righteousness of God revealed, and that’s the true standard for righteousness, which when followed, doesn’t just exalt your life, but your whole nation. Man’s best righteousness is altogether unrighteous. Anything good we know or have comes from God, but from there we carved out our own righteousness which conforms neatly and conveniently to  our depraved minds and imaginations and lusts. It really is all quite simple.

Jesus said the fire is already kindled, and the truth is, we are stoking our own fire with our sin. One day there will be payday, rest assured. God judged Sodom and Gomorrah, he judged Israel, and he will not spare us either. Greater countries and nations have fallen than ours, nations which once were highly exalted ended in destruction. A life and nation without Christ is doomed. Repentance starts with an acknowledgment of the truth. There is no hope without truth. How can you fix anything until you get honest about what the problem is. Until we get a love of truth back, there will be no return to God or righteousness and our lives and nation will not be exalted. Sin always will be a reproach, doesn’t matter how hip you are, only Jesus Christ can save you, forgive you, give you a right mind, and exalt your life.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 32 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
