When God Can’t Win

Luke 7:31 – And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?

Luke 7:32 – They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.

Luke 7:33 – For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil.

Luke 7:34 – The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!

Luke 7:35 – But wisdom is justified of all her children.

Hello readers, new blog today. God can’t win! Well God always wins, but the point of the blog today is in the Bible, in the gospel of Luke to be specific, we see an example of how unbelieving, Christ rejecting sinners work. God can’t win with them. He couldn’t win with that generation that had the very Son of God walking in their midst! In this passage of scripture you see the thinking and the logic of that generation that refused Jesus Christ and you see the impossibility of convincing someone of the truth of God’s word. God did everything to save them, sending them John the Baptist and Jesus Christ… no wonder the judgment is even worse for them than Sodom and Gomorrah.

I’ve not witnessed nearly as much as I should have, but when talking to people, or just in regular life, in issues of life, you see that people have an excuse or justification or rationale either way for the position they hold. Sinners will endlessly justify themselves. Jesus was helping his disciples understand what the men of the generation he was in were like. You know, we are in a generation that is exactly like this one, we haven’t been a generation that’s feared the Lord, that’s obeyed God’s word, we’ve been a generation that has an excuse, a justification for everything.

John the Baptist didn’t come eating bread or drinking wine… and they found fault in him. Jesus Christ came eating and drinking… and they found fault in him. They’ll find fault in Jesus Christ and in you are saved no matter what you do. You see, no matter who God sent, and in what capacity, they found a different reason to reject him. The problem wasn’t the manner or the message… the problem was the dark hearts of the hearers. Here we see the classic no win scenario. You tell people the gospel, you tell them God’s word, and they’ll find fault one way or another. You can’t win with some generations, let alone with individuals! This is a generation that cannot, and will not be convinced of their sin, of their guilt, of coming judgment, of truth… of anything. They’ve got an answer for everything. They’re not interested in truth at all. Jesus would go on to say wisdom is justified of her children. What a statement. All this just proves who are the children of light and who aren’t.

I’m going to give you an example. I’ve always heard people blaming God for children with cancer, or people saying oh if God were real and cared he’d stop the shootings in the schools. Things like that right. You’ve probably heard that or even said it yourself. So they’re finding fault with God based on his inaction. Yes there are many other problems with that statement which I’m not going to go into today, but they blame God for not doing anything about the evil in this world. So… I get to thinking… hey there’s another argument they use that is equally as common… and get this… other people find fault in God because he told Israel to wipe out the nations of Canaan, they find fault with God for flooding the world and wiping out the entire human population bar Noah and his family… man he’s an evil God they say… that’s why they won’t believe him! See, God many times DID do something about the evil and injustice and suffering… and because of his longsuffering that’s why any of us draw a breath today. But see how this is the same thing that Jesus was talking about. Either way… God can’t win in the eyes of those who reject Christ because they’ll never be convinced.

So we have people saying they won’t believe in God because he does nothing, and the same group of people say they won’t believe in God because he does do something. See… God can’t win. Jesus said wisdom is justified of her children… because these people have no wisdom. Because it’s so stupid to have both arguments at the same time. It shows the complete lack of spiritual illumination. They don’t have the Holy Spirit, they don’t have light. These are the arguments and justifications of people who have forsaken wisdom to have their sin and they’ll defend it to the death. They walk in darkness, they are the blind following the blind, they don’t know at what they’re stumbling. They’re such stupid arguments, stupid justifications, such a dumb rationale.

These people aren’t interested in truth, they have no wisdom. It’s not they can’t have it… it’s they don’t want it… because they’ve rejected the fountain of wisdom. They think they’re so smart, but they’re not. I’ve been thinking recently about the verse in Hebrews which says how Jesus endured such a contradiction of sinners against himself (Hebrews 12). And to consider that when we are going through tough times from this evil world. We are going to live righteously and we’ll end up the bad guys… just as Jesus did. We’ll love people by caring enough to tell them the truth for THEIR good and you’re the hater! We’ll stand for what’s right and holy and good and love and we are the bad guys. Look at Balak… he wanted Balaam to curse Israel… he was so worried about them… the one nation who wasn’t a threat to him. People who reject Christ are in such a hopeless contradiction, they can’t see the contradiction of their morality, their philosophy, their rationale, their logic, their thinking, their way, their life.

God sent a lot of prophets to his people to warn them to repent, to preach to them… and whatever they said, they always had a come back. No matter the manner or the method… they found a reason to reject God’s word. God couldn’t win with such a foolish generation. How foolish can you be to reject forgiveness and eternal life, to reject Jesus Christ the very light of this world. They’d prefer the darkness. See, the wise people were the people that had ears to hear, that listened and considered, they repented, they heeded the word of God. Wisdom was justified of her children. What you do with Jesus Christ will prove whether you have any wisdom or not. You’re only going to be as wise as you are trusting in and obeying God’s word.

People are going to find fault in Jesus Christ, and in people who follow Jesus Christ… no matter what you do they’ll find fault. Either way, you can’t win. So don’t bother with them. Don’t bother trying to please them because they’re never going to be satisfied and they’ll always require more of you. All the compromise you make, and you’ll be the loser. So often we try easing the reproach and shame that comes with following Jesus Christ. Simon of Cyrene was coming out the country and as he passed by Jesus Christ, the soldiers compelled him to carry his cross. See, we’d like to come out, but we think we can come out, and pass by having to take up our cross. The cross of Christ becomes our cross to bear when we believe and obey Jesus Christ. This world’s not going to let you not bear it. Are you willing to take it?

The generation that saw two of the greatest figures in history, John the Baptist and Jesus Christ… they were a generation that had no wisdom. They found fault in John the Baptist and they found fault in Jesus Christ. Eating and drinking or not eating and drinking… they found fault in both. Pretty incredible right. So it’s a pretty simple blog today, God can’t win! It’s not that God hasn’t gone after you, it’s you’ve knocked him back on every front. And at the end, God’s counsel stands, and God’s word will remain faithful and true when heavens and earth pass away. But this generation will find fault either way, they with all their contradictions, no matter what God did for them, no matter who God sent to them, no matter what type of person they were, no matter their manner or method… they found an excuse to reject them.

Are you like this today? You’re just an exercise in contradiction and you can’t even see how contradictory your arguments, your justification, your excuses are. See, people that dispute the Bible are so hopelessly in contradiction of themselves. I could just write a blog on the contradictions that this world’s wisdom has. Looking at the political situation today, because that’s all the rage. Bear with me here a bit… the same people who hold Donald Trump in such moral contempt… they want him out on moral grounds… so then they’ll (fraudulently) vote in someone and a party who is so morally bankrupt and against everything that is moral, good, right and true it’s not funny. You hate evil President Trump right… so you’ll vote in someone with a vast track record of immorality and corruption who supports the murder of babies in the womb and who pushes the sodomite agenda.

A guy who made a career helping other nations build their energy industry and is “elected” on the basis of dismantle his own country’s industry (which the whole green deal is). Please. What’s worse than him though is the people that would put him in. You’ll want someone in contradiction in because you’re in contradiction yourself. But then again, a vast number of the population didn’t put him. But think back… no matter what Trump did, he couldn’t win. It went from don’t vote him in because he’ll start a war with North Korea to he’s a monster for making peace with North Korea. See, either way, you can’t win. Whether Trump is a Christian or not, he and his party have stood for things that are right and aligned with the word of God, and put even us who call ourselves real Christians to shame. For anyone who is going to do right in this deceit embracing and lie loving world… they’ll find fault, how much more so true Christians obeying God’s word and living for Christ!

Oh and before I get some comments on this little rabbit trail, don’t bother, really. Jesus Christ said his kingdom is not of this world, and in this world we’re always going to see what’s happening happen until he returns and this kingdoms of the world become his. He will reign in truth and righteousness. You see, the disciples of Jesus wanted to fight for him, but it wasn’t his time. John 18:36 – Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. As believers we rest in the promises of Jesus Christ, the promise of his glorious appearing, the promise of the establishment of his kingdom that has no end when he returns and puts down all rule and reign. We win in the end. Now is your hour and the power of darkness Jesus said… but it’s just an hour… the eternity belongs to Jesus Christ and those who believed and trusted with him and stood and held the line, who kept the faith.

But back on track… God’s wisdom or this world’s wisdom? You choose. One stands and stands the test of time and the fire of judgement, the other is a joke and in hopeless contradiction of itself. People today, because they do not have Jesus Christ, because they’ve rejected God’s word, they’re just fumbling in darkness. If you want clarity of mind and thinking, if you want a sound and right mind, if you want understanding in the times we live in with so much misinformation and lies and narratives being told… get in God’s word. The Holy Spirit in you will give you wisdom in accordance with his infallible, incorruptible, eternal word. The Bible says this… he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. This world… their logic, their rationale, their thinking… its warped. Jesus Christ IS the truth, he IS the way, he IS the life… so when you’ve rejected him, just as the generation that he preached to and before whom he did all his miracles did… you’re just feeling around in darkness.

John the Baptist didn’t come eating and drinking and they found fault. Jesus came eating and drinking and they found fault. God can’t win right! People have forsaken wisdom, because they’ve forsaken Jesus Christ… from whom wisdom… from whom sanity and a right mind and knowledge and understanding comes. Do you need those things? Is your life a contradictory mess because you’ve rejected Jesus Christ? It’s not too late. We are seeing a world today that is so hopelessly lost in corruption and wickedness, it’s wisdom has been made foolish by God. The way back is God’s wisdom, and that starts with hearing the preaching of God’s word… that’ll save you, and believing the gospel will be a wise step in your life. Trust in him who has all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Stop with your arguments, and debates, and disputes, and justification, and philosophy… all the garbage… let God be true and every man a liar. He’s done everything for you, he’s given you so much opportunity to get saved. Just believe, today is the day.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 32 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)

  1. When it comes to salvation. What about issues of dress, do you have to be willing to dress a certain way before you get saved? Be willing to give up the way you like to dress?

    Is that part of repentance?

    • Hello Jackie, salvation is believing on the Lord Jesus Christ to save you from your sins. It’s based on what He has done for you. Titus 3:5 – Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.

With that in place, when you are saved, God will put a desire in you to obey his word in your life, that includes how to dress. I encourage you to read the Bible and let the Holy Spirit speak to you on how you should dress.

      Thanks,
      Joseph.
