Drive Those Fowls Away

Genesis 15:11 – And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.

Hello readers, hope you are all going well. New blog time today, and not from Job for a change! This is all about driving those fowls away. Genesis 15 is the chapter in which we learn that Abram believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness. Believing God is what makes us righteousness, not us doing better, not us trying more. But God made precious promises to Abram, promises valid to us today if you are saved… as if you are saved you are a child of the promise. God told him he would bless him with seed and land, and God told him to make a sacrifice. You see, all blessings are found in Jesus Christ… there is no blessing without sacrifice. Everything depends on Jesus Christ, it’s only through him that we can know and be right with God. So Abram made the sacrifice as God instructed him (obedience to God’s word folks!)… but then fowls, which are birds, came down upon them.

So today we are going to relate this story close to home. We are relating it to the parable of the sower, the first parable recorded in the New Testament that Jesus spoke.

Matthew 13:3 – And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;

Matthew 13:4 – And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:

Hey, we’ve seen those fowls somewhere! Back in Genesis, which we’ve just been talking about. You see, if you read the Bible, if you hear the gospel, if someone tells you God’s word… if the Holy Spirit is moving on those deep waters of your heart… there’s someone who’s not happy. Satan is not happy. If God’s word is seed… which it is… then Satan is coming for it. He wants to devour it up before you ever ingest it, before it ever blossoms into a tree that brings forth much fruit. He doesn’t want you to be saved. He doesn’t want you to leave his kingdom, much in the same way that Pharaoh didn’t want the Israelites free to even think about serving God, much less leaving town!

The disciples didn’t understand the parable… they asked Jesus what he meant, and in relation to the quoted text… here is what Jesus said. It’s funny how the Christian life seems to be a bit of a parable, if you are not saved, though you can read the Bible, you won’t get it. It’s hid from you. Because God’s word is spiritually discerned. If Jesus doesn’t open the book to you, it ain’t being opened to you… no matter how hard you try. We need the Holy Spirit of God. But here it is…

Matthew 13:18 – Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

Matthew 13:19 – When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

So we know the story of Abram and the fowls, and we know he drove them away. Why tell us that? It’s a picture. A big part of life is not letting Satan steal God’s word, and in fact God’s promises and God’s good for your life from you. God wants you to get saved. That’s why you’re still breathing. He’s giving you a chance to receive precious seed. That seed is the seed planted by hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus died for our sins. He rose from the dead. He extends forgiveness to anyone humble enough to simply believe he did it for them personally. That’s life changing seed. Everytime you read the Bible, that’s seed being sown. When you are saved, you should sow seed in other people’s lives. Sow the incorruptible, infallible seed of the word of God… that same word that the Holy Spirit will use and minister to someone’s heart. That’s how to make a difference. That’s how to make your life count. That’s how to make your life count toward others.

So the message today is simple… drive those fowls away. Don’t let God show you things, and then let Satan steal them from you thereafter. Be sure Satan is coming for the seed. He is folks. Wake up. He doesn’t want people to hear the gospel. He doesn’t want people to believe the word of God. He wants to distract, to confuse, to cast doubt, the occupy… whatever it takes… he just wants us not to receive that seed into good soil in our heart, where it will take root and grow. God’s word is precious seed. It is perfect seed. It is the seed that the Holy Spirit honors, the Holy Spirit sent on the behalf of Jesus Christ to lead us into truth, to change our lives, to empower us to believe and live the Christian life. Abram showed us what we should do. The father of faith gave us a good example. Drive those fowls away. Don’t let them spoil the sacrifice! There are so many people who have let the fowls come down on that sacrifice.

Look what Jesus has done for you reader, yet Satan has spoiled it all. Birds on the sacrifice, pecking and ruining it all. Hey, God loves you, he loves you so much he sent his Son to die for you. Is that so bad? Don’t let them spoil what God has done for you, what God has for you. Indeed, WHO God has for you, which is himself. The best thing in life is being right with God… that’s the purpose for which we were made. Why am I here? Because I was created for a relationship and fellowship with God… imagine and eternity separated from the very intention to which I was created… that’s hell right? Drive those fowls away. Don’t hear the word of God, then let Satan come by and snatch it away. Don’t let the seed go to waste. Don’t let Satan devour you, spoil you, distract you… destroy you. How? Pray… trust God, find the truth, and hold onto it. Remember old Ahab… trying to get Naboth’s vineyard… a great exchange right… Naboth said no deal. Don’t let Satan take away the truth, the promises, the faith… don’t let him devour your life.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 32 y/o Bible Blogger. I was new to blogging once! God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to bring it to others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I am a Lord Jesus Christ follower. He is faithful even though I rarely am to him. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and stake my life on it. My destination is heaven. As they say, I’m just a passin’ through this world… although most of the time it’s more like hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports – particularly cricket… I currently work on an orchard and a side hobby business of mine is growing vegetables etc – they are good for you! I love writing. Always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
