Will The Mountain Move You? Or Will The Mountain Move FOR You?

Mark 11:23 “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.”

Who’s going to move? The mountain, or you?

This is Jesus talking here in the book of Mark, and what he says here is really quite incredible, and it’s so hard to believe that this verse could be really true.

There are many verses in the Bible which make for nice sounding quotes, but how many do we actually believe and live by?

If we are truly honest, our unbelief runs so deep “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” Our best day of faith is barely anything more than rank unbelief.

And some verses seem to tease us, justtt beyond our reach, just beyond “possible”… but is God just teasing us here, or could this possibly be part of our Christian experience?

By faith in the Lord God of the Bible it can be, and is. It has been in my past, and will doubtless need to be again.

Yes, this verse is deceitfully manipulated by many false teachers… but just because that is the case doesn’t mean we throw out the verse itself.

Because this verse is true, and should help us to take courage as believers, because God stretching our faith and walk with him beyond what’s possible for us is what we all badly need to grow as Christians.

Are any mountains looming up before you in your life right now? Think of your mountain, we’ve all got them. Maybe they’re blotting out the sun, and you can’t see light anymore. Your life has been plunged into darkness by your mount Everest.

Maybe the mountain is so large and that’s all you can see. There’s no beyond that mountain. It’s firmly and impossibly in your way.
Mountains come up in our lives that threaten to come between and move us away from God, God’s promises, God’s destination for our life, truth, maybe away from being saved, or if you are, maybe from ever living the life following Christ.

What mountain are you camped out at the base of right now? and you’re not moving anywhere fast. Time’s ticking, and how much time will that mountain take from you. But God has brought this mountain up to you because you need to confront it, you need victory, and to finally make you look to him “He must increase, but I must decrease.”

God takes us all deep into the impossible as his children, because it’s out in those deep waters that our Christian life finally takes flight. You won’t have much of a testimony and confidence in your Saviour if no mountain ever moved for you.

I don’t know what your mountain is! … maybe it’s singleness, maybe it’s a sin you can’t stop, maybe it’s anxiety, or depression, or addiction, or doubt, or fear, or rejection from others… and you’re staring at utter impossibility, and something beyond your capacity to handle.

In Joshua 14, a guy called Caleb came to Joshua, his old buddy… they were the only two guys from a whole generation! who went into Canaan, because they had a different spirit to the rest (don’t be afraid to be different for Christ!)… and he came up to Joshua and asked for a mountain! “Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day”

There’s a different way of looking at your mountain!

That mountain of defeat towering so long above you… perhaps it’s been in your way for years and derailing your whole life… perhaps that can be the mountain of the greatest victory God ever brings in your life.

… Yeah, the mountain is impossible for you. That’s the whole point. But “with God nothing shall be impossible.”

Dare to speak to that mountain. If you’re in the right way, God’s word, you can by faith based on what God has said speak straight to that mountain. And if you don’t got faith, well none of us do! but let Jesus “author” that faith in you today. Maybe this is your first step of a new walk with him, where your name goes from “Jacob” to “Israel”… just watch God dump that sucker out your way.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 33 y/o Bible Blogger from Adelaide, South Australia. God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to share it with others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s Jesus Christ’s faith far more than my own! Because he is faithful. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and by God’s grace I anchor my soul to it. My destination is heaven. As they say, this world is not my home, I’m just a passin’ through… although most of the time I feel more like I’m hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports, I currently work on an orchard and one of my main hobbies/interests is growing vegetables. I love writing. I’m always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment on my blog or through email! My blog is inspired by Isaiah 2, and Isaiah’s vision of the last days when all nations will flow unto the Lord’s house, in a future time where everyone will love to hear God’s word and walk in light of Lord. And it is my hope that my blog will “strengthen the brethren” and “feed my sheep” as Jesus told Peter. Whether you visit once or regularly, I hope my blog is of some benefit to you on your journey of life! It’s a long journey, but with Christ you will make it to the other side.
