Is Christianity A Feast Or A Funeral?

1 Corinthians 5:8 “Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”

Is your Christianity a feast or a funeral?

Is your church a maternity ward and a feeding station where people get saved and grow in Christ?

Or is it a famine stricken funeral parlour… an “elephant graveyard” where you spiritually wither and die?

In Luke 20:38, when proving the resurrection, our Lord Jesus Christ said “For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.”

“For all live unto him”… this means that Christianity is for living! and >really< living! It’s not meant to be dead! And churches are not meant to be spiritual dead zones.

If you’re a Christian, do people of this world see life in you that they can’t find anywhere else in the dead darkness of this world?

Do you have forgiveness and redemption from sin, joy, peace, rest, fulfilment, purpose, assurance, hope, light, truth… life?

This world is truly lacking such things, because all these things are only truly found in Christ… but have you found life in Christ first? Is your Christianity dead profession… or a changed life?

Jesus said “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

No, this is not a call to Christian fakery, and it doesn’t mean Christians don’t go through much trouble, trial and tribulation… but nonetheless, Christianity is “for he that will love life”.

But somehow us Christians can have a real problem with death when there should be life. And when our Christianity is dead, we then try to “spice it up” a bit to make out like it isn’t so… kinda like when women came to the tomb of Christ after his crucifixion and burial armed with sweet spices in anticipation of the stink of his dead body.

… But their spices were not needed! And if you have the real thing, you just have it, there are no artificial substitutes required when you have real salvation and a walk with God!

If you haven’t noticed, many people of this world live with the attitude of “eat, drink for tomorrow we die”… enjoy life and time while you’ve got it!!! Because their parties, adventures, fun and games are pretty much just last rites to a hopeless and bleak eternity…

… but for the Christian, the feast is just beginning, we even look forward to the ultimate feast promised at the dawn of the eternal day… Revelation 19:9 “And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.”

What a time that is going to be! I’m going to be there, my seat is reserved… but is yours? Do you have a place at that table?

Real living is having Christ “he that hath the Son hath life” and it is following Christ… remember, Jesus defeated death, so there really is no excuse or really any such thing as dead Christianity!!!

So will your life be a feast or a funeral? As Jesus said in Luke 9:60… “Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.”

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 33 y/o Bible Blogger from Adelaide, South Australia. God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to share it with others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s Jesus Christ’s faith far more than my own! Because he is faithful. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and by God’s grace I anchor my soul to it. My destination is heaven. As they say, this world is not my home, I’m just a passin’ through… although most of the time I feel more like I’m hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports, I currently work on an orchard and one of my main hobbies/interests is growing vegetables. I love writing. I’m always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment on my blog or through email! My blog is inspired by Isaiah 2, and Isaiah’s vision of the last days when all nations will flow unto the Lord’s house, in a future time where everyone will love to hear God’s word and walk in light of Lord. And it is my hope that my blog will “strengthen the brethren” and “feed my sheep” as Jesus told Peter. Whether you visit once or regularly, I hope my blog is of some benefit to you on your journey of life! It’s a long journey, but with Christ you will make it to the other side.
