Has It Dawned On You Yet?

Has it dawned on you yet?

2 Peter 1:19 “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:”

Has it dawned on you yet?

Has HE dawned on you?

When we say “it dawned on him”… it is that what we are saying is that all of a sudden, someone has finally understood, grasped or realized something that for all the time before that they did not get, could not see, and did not know…

Salvation is likened to the dawn of the day, because Jesus Christ dawning on your soul happens in much the same way that daylight appears at dawn.

In my life, I’ve spoken to many people who do not “get it” when it comes to the Lord Jesus Christ, they cannot see wisdom in Jesus Christ, their truth is not found in God’s word, they see no sense or relevance in the cross.

They range everywhere from mild interest, to indifference, to outright hostility to God’s claim, command and call on their life.

And it’s because there has been no dawning of the day yet in their life. 1 Thessalonians and also Romans contrasts day and night, light and darkness in our post saved and pre saved experience.

And I was also this, before it dawned on me, before HE dawned on me, and in my heart.

Getting saved is like sunrise at dawn, Jacob called that place Peniel, Paul called that place the road to Damascus… but as Ephesians 2 begins… how about “and you?”

You know, most people oppose Jesus Christ not because they understand it and him… but because they are ignorant and blinded to him. It just hasn’t dawned on them yet, their state, their plight, his truth, his life… and they oppose what they do not understand nor have received for themselves. In darkness you cannot see anything, we only see because of light.

Did you know that Jesus as you know him before salvation is completely different to knowing him when he has risen like the sun in your heart?

And Satan also is involved in you not being saved. He likes keeping you in the darkness, under the power of darkness.

His job is to deceive with lies, tempt to sin and to blind the mind of those that believe not “… lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”

He doesn’t want you saved. And how is he going with that? Did you know from 1 John, you can see whether God’s working in your life, and the word of God “which effectually worketh also in you that believe” or whether Satan is working in your life, as evidenced by the spirit of rebellion and disobedience to God’s word.

But as Titus says, when the daylight cracks through the night of your life, then there is a “But after that… !” “… the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared”

I thank God for the “but after that” he gave me in my life. I deserve hell, I have done wrong, but God dawned on me one day, a tribute to his tender mercies and loving kindness. His arms have been holding me up ever since, even in the face of strong head winds that would take me back and out the other way.

Being saved is the best thing ever, having God in this world, having him as your Father is the pinnacle of the human experience, because it was the reason we were created and exist, the breath of life.

I hope God’s goodness to you leads you to repentance rather than to hardness and more sin.

If you read the gospel of Luke, you’ll find the famous story of “the prodigal son”. He was a son of a loving father, who took his inheritance and went away into a far country. He’s us.

But out there in the far country, this young man experienced the dawning of the day in his life, when in the pig pen, his friends having abandoned him, all his energy and money and value to others spent and spat out… his foolhardy pursuit of the pleasures of sin had brought him to the lowest point of his life.

Suddenly! through the grace and mercy of God, he looked toward heaven not just with his eyes, but with his soul, realizing his stupidity, realizing his desperate pitiful state, before returning to the father. Godly repentance doesn’t just realize ones own sin, but also tracks straight to the cross of Christ and the loving embrace of the Saviour.

Most people who are honest don’t dispute they are a sinner, but very few let that fact lead them to the Saviour… because of the drunken stupor of their sin “I will seek it yet again”

Like the prodigal son who it took many years for the truth to finally dawn on him… we like him all have gotten ourselves a long way from our creative purpose, yes it was Adam’s fault, but also our fault also, we delight in disobedience as much as he did, and that has plunged us into great darkness… like Abraham’s “horror of great darkness”

The thought of dying and going to hell, but not just that, but eternal separation from God… is terrifying “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men”

This is all written not to condemn, but for your salvation, because yes the darkness is great and the night is long, but you need to stop sleeping on Christ before it’s too late! He can arise in your heart and situation of life. He can be your shepherd. He can be your Saviour.

I really hope you come to a dawning of a new day, an eternal day, a perfect day in your life. I used to listen to a song back in my rebellion which said “we are the children of the night”… but no longer am I a child of the night, a child of disobedience, a rebel to God… and I was ignorant and deceived and serving sin and on the road to hell… but Jesus reached through all that and pulled me from the fiery flames and outer darkness.

If he could save me, he surely could save you. But if you’re not saved, what chance do you stand? All other ground is sinking sand.

I pray God not only dawns on you, but in you. It’s not just intellect, Jesus has promised to dwell in our hearts by faith, a down payment of his Spirit wit the promise of full and final consummation. Yes he is THAT earnest about your soul God put down the blood of his own Son as the divine deposit.

And so… you ready yet to leave the night behind? The sleeping? The drunkness? The sin? The stupidity? Don’t be like one of those people that the Bible speaks of in Job “They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof” but instead as Jesus aid “While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light.”

Salvation is a new dawn. Has he dawned on you yet?

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 33 y/o Bible Blogger from Adelaide, South Australia. God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to share it with others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s Jesus Christ’s faith far more than my own! Because he is faithful. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and by God’s grace I anchor my soul to it. My destination is heaven. As they say, this world is not my home, I’m just a passin’ through… although most of the time I feel more like I’m hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports, I currently work on an orchard and one of my main hobbies/interests is growing vegetables. I love writing. I’m always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment on my blog or through email! My blog is inspired by Isaiah 2, and Isaiah’s vision of the last days when all nations will flow unto the Lord’s house, in a future time where everyone will love to hear God’s word and walk in light of Lord. And it is my hope that my blog will “strengthen the brethren” and “feed my sheep” as Jesus told Peter. Whether you visit once or regularly, I hope my blog is of some benefit to you on your journey of life! It’s a long journey, but with Christ you will make it to the other side.
