Stop Making Your Own Gospel Compound

Exodus 30:31 “And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This shall be an holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations.”

Exodus 30:32 “Upon man’s flesh shall it not be poured, neither shall ye make any other like it, after the composition of it: it is holy, and it shall be holy unto you.”

Exodus 30:33 “Whosoever compoundeth any like it, or whosoever putteth any of it upon a stranger, shall even be cut off from his people.”

We are seeing all sorts of movie/TV adaptations of Bible characters and Bible stories like “The Chosen” Tv series about Jesus Christ and now a new show “House of David”.

While tantalizing to the tastebuds, you have to reach a long way back to find a graphical depiction of the Bible which actually stayed true to scripture in detail and in spirit… and these have not and do not. “Gods and Kings” and “Noah” and so on… you’re basically dumpster diving if you’re trying to find a morsel of spiritual strengthening in them. They’re just nothing like what the Bible says, and thus just devilish deceptions.

Unsurprisingly, God’s stamp of approval, his blessing and his anointing is not on these.

We’re not meant to find newer better ways to “sell” and “market” (quite literally seeing as it’s about that) the gospel to people… Our job as ambassadors for Christ is to deliver the faith that was once delivered unto the saints… we don’t have permission to melt down and recast the image of God portrayed by himself in his own word like that is somehow insufficient and needs man’s perfection to produce results in our times “Cursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.”

It’s not so secret, these are obviously against God’s will. Christians, that old fashioned unwillingness to die to self is also denying the resurrection and multiplying power that the gospel still has. Yes the preaching of the cross is offensive and foolish to the perishing, if you were dead with Christ and already seated in heaven… some pushback and negative press wouldn’t hurt you so bad enough to change the Bible to give you the ease and leisure of religion you crave!

The most common justification of these shows is somewhat along the lines of “something is better than nothing”… but a distorted presentation of the gospel has far more capacity to harm than a clean honest slate of ignorance to work with “and the rent is made worse”. And there are people out there, many Christians included, who now have all sorts of images and narrative in their head from the Chosen for instance which isn’t remotely in line with scripture.

If it was truly working and resulting in lasting conversions based on repentance of sins and acknowledgement of truth and no longer being offended by and dead to everything the Bible says… you wouldn’t need to defend these shows so vigorously. But now, they’re becoming a new “sacred cow” … like the golden calves they are. But they’ll always fall down before the truth, and just like Dagon, who needed his priests to keep propping him up and putting him back in place before the ark of the covenant.

God didn’t give Paul creative license with the gospel, which means he definitely hasn’t given some movie director or weak kneed pastor or itching ear congregation in the wilderness that license either. How’d Paul win souls to Christ, yeah fairly differently how we do today. And before you cite “that was back then” … well Paul encountered more cultures and tongues than you ever will as he spread the gospel across the world. His worked… and he didn’t say to change it, he said to preach it… the cross of Christ. In fact he said you need less of your devices and stratagems, not more, all you need is preaching Christ crucified, that’s what built the churches we still read about.

Quoted above are some of God’s specifications for his anointing oil which was used the anoint the tabernacle and all the instruments of the tabernacle in Exodus 30… and VERY specific instructions were given by God about it’s composition and use. The tabernacle and it’s minsters and ministration was not in use until they were anointed. When you consider that we are God’s temple now, now think of how those guidelines relate to us! They were not allowed to change the formula! Or “compound” something “like” it… But which these shows are doing.

“It’s helping people get into the Bible”… if it actually helped you get into the Bible, the Bible would clearly tell you that nobody, no one, and nothing has been given liberty by God to take “creative license” with his word. Sure, maybe someone will get saved who came along one of these shows… but the fact God can use anything doesn’t excuse the conscience that “to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin”.

Jesus said in John 10 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.”

If you want to try and employ “some other way” to get people to become Christian, all you’re doing is cheating them. These “some other way” varieties of gospel presentations are not working, never has our church been more stripped of power and authority and truth and righteousness.

Look at verse 33… telling lost people they are saved and right with God is the meanest thing that you could do to a person. New birth through believing the gospel makes you a Christian, not being emotionally moved by a tv show about Christ that made him more palatable to you when his truth would otherwise be putrid to your taste. Climbing the fence rather than entering the door you never would go through doesn’t mean you’re in… it means you’re where you don’t belong.

And even while others may and will continue to feel liberty to compound the gospel how they see fit and flood the sheep market with it… yet we know for sure that God isn’t amused. He hasn’t aged or lost his touch or changed with your times. Both Old and New Testament still condemn rebranding, repackaging, and rewording God’s story, God’s book, which was never ours to change or make like unto.

There was an Amalekite who came to David one day with Saul’s crown and bracelet in his hands and a story to tell, but David wasn’t fooled… but will you be?

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 33 y/o Bible Blogger from Adelaide, South Australia. God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to share it with others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s Jesus Christ’s faith far more than my own! Because he is faithful. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and by God’s grace I anchor my soul to it. My destination is heaven. As they say, this world is not my home, I’m just a passin’ through… although most of the time I feel more like I’m hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports, I currently work on an orchard and one of my main hobbies/interests is growing vegetables. I love writing. I’m always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment on my blog or through email! My blog is inspired by Isaiah 2, and Isaiah’s vision of the last days when all nations will flow unto the Lord’s house, in a future time where everyone will love to hear God’s word and walk in light of Lord. And it is my hope that my blog will “strengthen the brethren” and “feed my sheep” as Jesus told Peter. Whether you visit once or regularly, I hope my blog is of some benefit to you on your journey of life! It’s a long journey, but with Christ you will make it to the other side. 1. They all distort the scripture, and they all portray men in long girly dresses too whereas the Bible in Exodus talks about breeches or pants/shorts. It’s really silly if you think about it, whoever these movie producers are consulting for wardrobe or costumes thinks they knew how to make sleeves for arms, but couldn’t figure it out for legs. I think that’s just a leftover of the effeminate depiction of Jesus the world has, especially the Roman Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox (both of whom adopted many of their practices from Hinduism), when the Bible makes it clear in 1st Corinthians 11 that he wouldn’t have long hair which would shame his head which is God, just as a man with long hair would shame his head which is Christ. And John 8:29 also ties in with that.

One common thing they do (apart from asserting the star of remphan represents true worship) is they’ll quote Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:” but when they quote it, they leave off the last “LORD” because they don’t want to admit Jesus is God, that Jesus is Jehovah just like the Father is Jehovah and the Holy Spirit is Jehovah. So if they just say “one”, then they can deny it’s the three in one LORD God of the Bible (1 John 5:7). They also can’t explain all the preincarnate appearances of the Son of God, which even Nebuchadnezzar recognized as the Son of God (corrupted bibles change this), or when raining fire and brimstone, we read the LORD (preincarnate Jesus) rained fire and brimstone from the LORD (the Father) out of heaven, or at the end of Joshua 5. But there’s nobody in the world who really only follows the Old Testament, Jesus said if they believed Moses they’d believe him, some people might claim someone does or they do, but none of them follow the old covenant and have the animal sacrifices and it’s been replaced by a better covenant anyway (Hebrews 8:6,13).

But you said, “If it was truly working and resulting in lasting conversions based on repentance of sins”

Are you saying a conversion “doesn’t last” if it isn’t based on turning from wicked ways?

A true conversion is in the heart, anyone who truly believes the gospel in their heart, has eternal life. That’s it. Plus nothing, minus nothing; plus nothing, you don’t need to add any of your filthy rags to buy the gift of God (Isa 64:6, Acts 8:20); minus nothing, you don’t need to get any sins out of your life to be washed in the blood of the Lamb. The false conversions are those who are trusting in their “many wonderful works” like Matthew 7:21-23 who didn’t do the will of the Father in John 6:39-40 who Jesus says he never knew, or they’re trusting in their own ability to turn from wicked ways which God sees as a work (Jonah 3:10), or they’re trusting in another Christ that isn’t the Jesus Christ of the Bible (like a piece of bread and a shot of alcoholic wine — depicting Christ’s body as unleavened bread is right, but why then use leavened wine? it’s hypocrisy, which is the leaven of the pharisees, and works-based salvation is hypocrisy since none are righteous, there is not a just man upon the earth who doeth good and sinneth not, and there are none good but God).

Your salvation page seems to be accurate, what then do you mean by “conversion”? Because Jonah 3:10 makes it clear that God considers turning from wicked ways or our life reformation or “repenting of sins” as a work. The word “repent” just means a change of mind, like how God repents in Genesis 6 or Jonah 3, he’s not turning from sin. The phrase “repent of sins” or any variation of it isn’t in the Bible. When Jesus said repent and believe the gospel, it’s simply saying change your mind and believe the gospel. This makes sense in contexts of the usage of the word since that is its meaning, saying it means to turn from sin as many false teachers teach is then to say that God has sin since he repented (some corrupt bibles also remove the word “repent” any time God repents). When the Hebrews were leaving Egypt, had they repented then, it would’ve been bad as that would mean going back to Egypt (Exodus 13:17).

Sure, there are a lot of lukewarm and worldly Christians out there, using some bogus NIV/ESV “bible” or letting the divorced and remarried criminal lawyer Scofield’s notes tell them what the Bible actually means, or just attending some rock show fun center, or some charismaniac clown show; but they still believed the gospel in their heart and they’re saved, even if they’re super backslidden or don’t even think about the things of God or don’t take God’s word seriously or have some weird barking like a dog doctrine (1 Corinthians 14:28) and I’m sure plenty have never had any desire to stop certain sins in their life or even admit certain things are sinful; but they’re still saved because they believed the gospel. True conversion is based on faith or believing the gospel, and the Bible says with the heart man believes in Romans 10. And as a scriptural example, Peter didn’t tell CorneliusΒ to do anything or base his conversion on repentance of sins, he just told him the gospel of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus “that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins” in Acts 10.

As for why there are so many lukewarm and worldly Christians, I believe it’s because they’ve moved away from God’s pure and preserved words for the English-speaking people with the King James Bible, and they’re following the voices of strangers and corrupted bogus bibles from corrupt manuscripts that have errors and contradictions in them or remove powerful verses and make powerful verses weak (just consider how super lame some of the best verses sound in other versions — that’s not a sharp sword, it’s not the Word of God). It’s hard for someone to care a lot about doctrine or taking heed to the doctrine when their “bible” is full of errors and contradictions and absurd things like saying Saul was 1 year old when he began to rule, and they relegate their thinking to some theologian or professor who rails against the King James Bible and they look no further since that’s what they were taught and they don’t question it, or they trust in their own understanding rather than trusting in the LORD with all their heart. A lot of people can’t let go of certain theological doctrines they were taught, like the Dispensationalists/Darbyites who are exceptionally bad about their golden calf theology (and you won’t come away from a clean-slate Bible reading and believe in Dispensationalism/Darbyism, it’s just not in there).

    • Thanks for the comment Long Wind, I’ve been super busy of late, not too busy to read but haven’t really fine tooth combed your comment as I’ve got a lot of my plate at the moment and not really interested in getting into long winded arguments if you’re looking for one. I used to engage a lot both online and in person in arguments and contentions but God’s moved me away from it to the point of, I’ve said what I’ve said, if there is a legitimate problem with it, I’d thank you for bringing it to my attention, but if not, there’s plenty of other room on the web.

With that said, what Im gathering is that you’re questioning the way works interface with salvation?

Well, I’m not sure how your mind can turn from sins to Christ and it not affect how we live our lives, or that his Spirit, that same Spirit that brought Jesus from the dead, could somehow dwell in us and not change our lives from inside to out

We don’t work to be saved, but our works do validate the faith we say we have, or invalidates it if they are not there… 1 John 3:7 “Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.”

There is a wonderful balance in the scripture, I’ve never believed or espoused works based salvation. Yes, we still battle with sin after we are saved… but Jesus very name means “he shall save his people from their sins”… if you’ve never actually been saved from sins practically, and it’s entirely judicial, maybe it’s a good thing to question whether you are one of his people… there are lots of people hiding behind a false conversion claiming grace… when it’s clear God’s grace hasn’t taught them anything yet as the Bible says it does and should Titus 2:11,12

Thank you for your comment, appreciate it πŸ™‚

  2. The bible says (and I use the kjv) that with the heart man believeth unto righteousness. Romans 10:10 But the problem is that man can’t believe with the heart because in the garden when Adam and eve sinned they spiritually died. So no man can come unto God for salvation unless God first draws him. As Jesus said in John 6:44. And in Acts 11:18 then hath God also to the gentiles granted repentance unto life. And 2 Timothy 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; IF GOD peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth. The bible says faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17 Matthew 13:15 for this peoples heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. Proverbs 20:12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the Lord hath made even both of them. Jeremiah 5:21-31 Isaiah 6:9-10. So how is it that God draws a person unto Christ? Psalms 19:7 the law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul. Psalms 119:154-156 plead my cause, and deliver me: quicken me according to thy word. Salvation is far from the wicked: for they seek not thy statutes. O great are thy tender mercies, O Lord: quicken me according to thy judgements. Proverbs 13:13-14 whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. Psalms 37:30 the mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment. Isaiah 59:8 the way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace. Read Matthew 7:13-14. Psalms 120:7 I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war. Romans 3:17-18 and the way of peace have they not known: there is no fear of God before their eyes. I thought I was a Christian because when I was young I was in a bible school class and I went forward when they asked if anyone wanted to be saved to come forward and someone would show you in the bible how to be saved. So I went forward because I didn’t want to go to hell. They showed me how to be saved then we prayed a prayer. Well nothing happened or really changed in my life. I thought well I guess I’m just supposed to try to live a clean life the best that I can. Which I didn’t. Over the years growing up I heard people talking about Christ how he died for our sins and that if we would just ask him to forgive us and to save us he would. So I prayed again to recieve him just incase I didn’t really get saved before. I had a guy give me a bible tract that had the plan of salvation in it. I went and got alone read it, prayed the the plan of salvation that was in the back and still was no change, nothing happened. But I also prayed Lord if I’m not saved, do whatever it takes to save me. Shortly after that I watched the movie left behind with Kirk Cameron in it. The movie kinda scared me because I didn’t want to be left here during the tribulation period. So I decided to go to church. And I worked with a guy that was a pastor. I decided to go to his church. Well I went the next Sunday and when he started preaching it felt like he was preaching right to me. I thought to myself he’s been watching me at work and he’s preaching right to me. Well pretty soon he was talking about stuff that I knew he couldn’t know about me. Specific things that no one else in the world knew about me. Secret sins. I knew at that moment it was God talking to me! (John 6:44, 1 Corinthians 11:31-32) God was drawing me by his law and the prophets. They gave a invitation that if you wanted to be saved to come forward and someone would show you in the bible how to be saved. I was to scared and embarrassed to go forward. So I kept coming back to church hoping that I could get saved without going forward. I went for around 6 months hearing Gods word being preached and most sundays left knowing that if I died I would be in hell for eternity. I would be sweating and trembling with fear through alot of the sermons. Isaiah 66:2 and 66:5, Job 21:6-13, Romans 3:17-18, psalms 85:9, Psalm 119:120. The bible says also in Isaiah 28:16-18 therefore thus saith the Lord God, behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, (Jesus) he that believeth shall not make haste. (Meaning shall not hurry. Also read luke 14:28-33. That’s what I was doing was counting the cost.) Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: (God was measuring me by his law and I was falling way short of it.) And the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place. (Meaning the heart, and all of my false beliefs and thinking I was a good person. Also read ephesians 5:26) and your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it. (You shall be brought low, humbled by it. Read also Psalms 50:5 and 51:17. Isaiah 57:15, luke 2:34-35 notice the fall and rising again in luke. Being humbled then the Lord will lift you up. And also that the thoughts of the heart should be revealed. The sin of your heart.) Finally after around 6 months I was standing at the invitation time to go forward. I thought to myself this is stupid I’m going to get in my car and die in a car wreck and spend eternity in hell. I let go of the back of the church pue and it felt like I ran down the isle. I was crying and I told the pastor I needed to be saved. He sent me in the back of the church with a guy. He opened up the bible showed me in the bible how to be saved. And said now lets get down on our knees and pray for Jesus to come into your heart and save you. The moment I knelt down before we even prayed I knew Christ came into my heart. It was like I was blind and now I could see. Unlike before when I had no assurance of my salvation I knew the Holy Spirit came into my heart. My life has been different ever since that day. I am not perfect by no means. I still fall short. But I desire to be Holy, I desire to please my Lord and to serve him. Though I fall way short of his will for me.
