We Have The Mind Of Christ… Or Do We?

1 Corinthians 2:16 “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. “

This is actually an incredible statement in the Bible… that “we have the mind of Christ”.

And the context of this verse is judging, where the scripture is telling us that the key to judging “he that is spiritual judgeth all things” is having the spiritual discernment that the Spirit of God and Christ’s mindset endows us with which to make the righteous judgments necessary for our lives.

But it’s a precious gift to be given the mind that Christ had, something I have severely lacked in my life heretofore, but that’s what Christians should have AND need! desperately!… after all, being a Christian is to be called “Christ like” and to be “like Christ” that fundamentally necessitates Christ likeness in mindset also.

Don’t worry about mindfulness and all the psych rubbish, tricks and traps of a modern world desperately trying to overhaul, subdue and angle the mind in some positive direction… ask God for the mind of Christ! That’ll change your life! What you need isn’t changed surroundings, you need internal change in your own head! As do we all!

What a joy to have the mind of Christ in a world that has lost it’s mind. Wouldn’t you like to have Christ’s mindset to transform the way you see life, do life, handle conflicts and tragedies and transform how you see other people? Isn’t it great to go from seeing people as objects of strife, hatred and envy to seeing them as a lost sinners in need of the truth of Christ?

Do you see people as souls to be saved, or pawns you move around on the chessboard of your life? Do you see life as an opportunity to serve God or serve yourself? You need Christ’s mind, because he’d give you a sound mind, pure mind and right mind while all about you are losing theirs.

But how can you get Christ’s mind? How can you know his mind? Read about him from Genesis to Revelation! In them you can find out all about what his mind was on, what he was minded to do, and where his mind was at. No need to guess, no need to be fooled. If you’re deceived in 2025, it’s not because you had to be, but you chose to be.

Right from a kid, Jesus’ mind was to do the Father’s will. Do you really want to obey God’s word in your life? Jesus did. He said “I must be about my Father’s business”… and he was only 14 when he said that! How many fourteen year olds or fourteen year old Christians are like that… to have a mind purely focused on doing the Father’s will as outlaid in scripture?

Scripture had written all about what he would do, and he was minded to do it “Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.” What was Christ’s mind? Well that was on Christ’s mind as he entered the world!

How many people have you met or know who you could honestly say, hand on heart, that they are truly Christ minded? Every hero of the faith, on the mountaintop anyway!, was Christ minded… that’s why their lives model Christ and are the models for us as Christians, who’s steps we also emulate today. Start living for Christ with his mindset and your attitude and understanding of the Bible might well change too? He didn’t struggle with scripture, he instead had mastery of it… so can you.

The Bible talks a lot about the mind, the battleground that it is, and the Bible speaks of people who “mind earthly things” or who are “double minded” or of “corrupt minds” or “highminded” or “shaken in mind” or who walk in the “vanity of their mind” or whose “minds were blinded” by Satan. Could you be in any of these categories? Maybe this post is just to stir your pure mind up! A bit of agitation is good for you to stir up the gift God gave you which often for us remains unredeemed and unexercised!

The Bible summarizes all these other states and conditions of the mind as being “otherwise minded”… whatever the case you or I are in, most people are just “otherwise” minded as Paul wrote, and so he prayed God for them and us also that God would show that fact to us, so we would then obtain what being a Christian necessitates… a renewed mind to go with the new heart. The mind of Christ is the right pursuit, Paul thought he was a pretty good prize enough to not just abandon everything else but also count the loss of them as “dung”… or do you not have that same mind?

The mindset of Christ is not a mystery, read about him and you’ll know what he was minded to do… he was minded to do God’s will, he said he always did those things that pleased his Father, he said he only said what the Father told him to speak, he said he came to bear witness unto the truth, to be the light of the world, to seek and save the lost… the more you read the more you get to know his mind! Then you know what’s not on his mind too! So you can spot someone who doesn’t have that mind and to be wary of the someone of a same profession but a different mindset!

See, Jesus’ mind was not on earthly, worldly, devilish things… he said Satan had nothing in him, and he lived a life entirely focused on the kingdom of God. He was in the world, but never stopped being heavenly minded. Could your mindset be the same? Could you get your mindset off you and onto God? “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

The Christian life changes when you do! And so … “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” and … “Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.”

It’s between you and God! Have a great day!

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 33 y/o Bible Blogger from Adelaide, South Australia. God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to share it with others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s Jesus Christ’s faith far more than my own! Because he is faithful. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and by God’s grace I anchor my soul to it. My destination is heaven. As they say, this world is not my home, I’m just a passin’ through… although most of the time I feel more like I’m hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports, I currently work on an orchard and one of my main hobbies/interests is growing vegetables. I love writing. I’m always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment on my blog or through email! My blog is inspired by Isaiah 2, and Isaiah’s vision of the last days when all nations will flow unto the Lord’s house, in a future time where everyone will love to hear God’s word and walk in light of Lord. And it is my hope that my blog will “strengthen the brethren” and “feed my sheep” as Jesus told Peter. Whether you visit once or regularly, I hope my blog is of some benefit to you on your journey of life! It’s a long journey, but with Christ you will make it to the other side.
