Are You Seeking A Prophetic Word Over Your Life?
1 Timothy 1:18 “This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;”
Would a prophecy or prophecies over your life help you?
They helped Timothy, who was a young Christian who was wanting to serve God with his life.
There is nothing wrong with seeking a “prophetic word” over your life … many Christians are seeking such these days to help them know and accomplish God’s will in their life.
It is a significant “leg up” to have personal prophecies to you that you can bank on and fall back to when you’re in the battle as a Christian.
…Because as you face difficult situations and circumstances that are part of following Christ… at least you’re going through it all knowing you’re where God wants you to be, that God is with you, and that he has promised you no matter what!
It really helps! And every man of God in the Bible had prophecies that went before on them… from Abraham to Joseph to Joshua to Gideon to Jeremiah… to Jesus (he had a whole Bible full!).
I’ve had these in my life also… and they’ve really helped me in my Christian life. I wouldn’t have made it this far or in the future without them, especially in the times where it’s been tough going.
What is prophecy? Well, the word “prophecy” means “A foretelling; prediction; a declaration of something to come.” And “As God only knows future events with certainty, no being but God or some person informed by him, can utter a real prophecy”
… All of us would love to know the future in general and our own future personally (maybe for right or wrong reasons!)… but God is the only one who surely knows it, and thus the only source to find it.
So there is nothing wrong with seeking a prophetic word from God for your life (people always consulted prophets in the Old Testament!) and you’ll most definitely need it for what God has called you personally to do! … but WHERE you seek that word from is critical.
God’s own word, the holy scriptures, are the only place on this planet where you can find 100% accurate surefire certain prophecy … as Peter wrote “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed…”
The Bible also says in Revelation 19:10 that “the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy”… so you need to get into his testimony … the Holy Bible!
… If you seek a prophetic word outside of God’s word, and go in the confidence of that false prophecy… inevitably you will be left high and dry and wondering what went wrong when it drops you off some place you didn’t count on (just ask king Ahab all about that!). And then that’s why so many people end up on the outs and disillusioned with God… when God wasn’t to blame, it was never from him.
Timothy didn’t have a bunch of people around him projecting visions and dreams and grandeur onto him plucked out of thin air and derived by dubious mystic gnostic means… Timothy had been in the Bible a lot himself “from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures” and had surrounded himself (in terms of influence) with people that had spoken a lot of scripture into his life.
And so what this is teaching us is that we have to get into the Bible for ourselves, and let God make it’s general and objective truth our PERSONAL truth also. Remember, yes it’s written for everyone, but it is written for you personally, a corporate blob of faith won’t cut it when life gets real!
Nobody has been you before. Nobody has lived your life before. And your future isn’t known to you, but it is known to God, and your life can be more than lame guesswork… because God through his infallible word will reveal his will to you for your life “Having made known unto us the mystery of his will” … the “infallibility” part is important, it’ll keep you from falling out as so many do!
As a Christian, when God has spoken personally to you, prophesying over your mission and direction, that gives a confidence that no man could ever give and which cannot be taken away. As God said to Jeremiah “And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the Lord, to deliver thee.” If you’ve read the book of Jeremiah… you think that prophecy helped him through his ministry? … It sure did!
Joshua had this also! God told him in Joshua 1:5 “There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” That’s a pretty darn good prophecy over you life to cross the Jordan and enter the battles in Canaan with!
It’s good stuff isn’t it. Do you know how Abraham’s journey began? … like this “Now the Lord had said UNTO Abram, Get THEE out of thy country…” That’s very personal. How personal is God’s word to you? The Holy Spirit will make it so if you just have an ear to hear and heart to obey. And then go in that confidence! There’s a good warfare out there just waiting to be fought!

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 33 y/o Bible Blogger from Adelaide, South Australia. God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to share it with others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s Jesus Christ’s faith far more than my own! Because he is faithful. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and by God’s grace I anchor my soul to it. My destination is heaven. As they say, this world is not my home, I’m just a passin’ through… although most of the time I feel more like I’m hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports, I currently work on an orchard and one of my main hobbies/interests is growing vegetables. I love writing. I’m always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment on my blog or through email! My blog is inspired by Isaiah 2, and Isaiah’s vision of the last days when all nations will flow unto the Lord’s house, in a future time where everyone will love to hear God’s word and walk in light of Lord. And it is my hope that my blog will “strengthen the brethren” and “feed my sheep” as Jesus told Peter. Whether you visit once or regularly, I hope my blog is of some benefit to you on your journey of life! It’s a long journey, but with Christ you will make it to the other side. You can read more about me and my blog here – kjvbibletruth.com/about :)
My observation is that those who want “gifts” (tongues etc.) want to be special. The same who are not satisfied with the perfect King James Bible. It is vanity and very covetous.
They are forever looking for new experiences, new revelations…they have no peace nor rest unto their souls.

Yeah agree sage_brush, thanks for the comment. I guess it’s just plain old dissatisfaction with God’s word (kinda like children of Israel in the wilderness when they got sick of the manna) and then lure and seduction of things like experiences, feelings, and practices that draw people away from “the faith once delivered unto the saints” and “the common salvation”
The Bible and the gift of the Holy Spirit in our hearts is everything we need for every aspect of our lives “That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
I don’t know how and why people would go anywhere else, considering everything else is a mirage of false hope, an empty well, and another cloud scooting by that has no rain from heaven
