Is The God Of The Old Testament Different To The God Of The New Testament? … Maybe You Need An “Unveiling”!
2 Corinthians 3:14 “But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.”
The Jews from Christ’s advent and to this day as a nation have a problem… they don’t see Christ in the Old Testament.
But many Christians seem to have this same battle today also.
Sooo many Christians I’ve ever met barely read the Old Testament!!!, and if they do, somehow get this concept that the God then is different from the God now.
Which isn’t true. Jesus Christ was as much in Genesis 1 as in John 1.
He was and is the same God he’s always been, just he took on flesh form in the New Testament. Same God, just in flesh.
Maybe you have trouble reconciling the apparent differences in God between Old and New Testament and making sense of the God in there… and that’s fine… the Bible is God’s word and it does require more than our very finite limited earthly human minds to receive and understand.
Noone on earth is even remotely wise enough to handle God’s word in their own intellect… There is only one worthy and capable of opening the book in Revelation… it takes the Holy Spirit to draw Christ out of the Old Testament.
Remembering, it took Holy Spirit filled apostles to begin preaching Christ and planting churches everywhere… when all they had was the Old Teatament to preach Christ’s life, death, burial and resurrection from.
But which they did! And very effectively because the church spread like wildfire and people were getting saved in all places.
As soon as you read the new, you will realize that the old is constantly referenced throughout the new because the old is what the new is built upon.
Matthew 13:52 “Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.”
Yes, the new is different to the old in that the new is the fulfillment of the old and the old points to and gives way to the new, but it was always about Christ who ties the whole thing together and makes it all make sense… because it’s all about him.
In Luke 11:52, Jesus rebuked and pronounced a woe upon the lawyers of his day, because he said that in them rejecting him and trying to twist law to break him rather than believe on him (whom it was all about!)… that in so doing they had taken away the “key of knowledge” from the people.
Without Christ, you’ll never make head or tail of the old testament. The Jews were so blinded they didn’t even realize everything they did to him only served to gloriously fulfill every jot and tittle of scripture.
Remember, whenever the Bible doesn’t make sense, it’s not time to change the Bible, the Bible is meant to change us. It means there’s more to learn!
God is perfectly consistent in the whole Bible “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” To cut yourself off from so much of the Bible means you’re likely to create an image of God in your head that isn’t even nearly a true representation of who he really is… remembering that the Bible is God himself defining who he is so we don’t have a faith just based on imagination and heresay.
It is a spiritual book and requires the Holy Spirit to be understood and assimilated. Anyone can read the Bible, but until the Spirit of Christ opens it to you… it’ll just be ink on paper.
The problem isn’t scripture itself, the problem is the vail on our eyes and heart.
And so that vail of unbelief and disobedience which blinds us to Christ has to be taken away, and only then will the light of Christ gloriously shine into our heart and soul, and those words of death will most definitely turn into the unfurling flower of life as his star rises in the day of our heart.
2 Corinthians 3:15 “But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.”
2 Corinthiand 3:16 “Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.”

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 33 y/o Bible Blogger from Adelaide, South Australia. God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to share it with others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s Jesus Christ’s faith far more than my own! Because he is faithful. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and by God’s grace I anchor my soul to it. My destination is heaven. As they say, this world is not my home, I’m just a passin’ through… although most of the time I feel more like I’m hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports, I currently work on an orchard and one of my main hobbies/interests is growing vegetables. I love writing. I’m always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment on my blog or through email! My blog is inspired by Isaiah 2, and Isaiah’s vision of the last days when all nations will flow unto the Lord’s house, in a future time where everyone will love to hear God’s word and walk in light of Lord. And it is my hope that my blog will “strengthen the brethren” and “feed my sheep” as Jesus told Peter. Whether you visit once or regularly, I hope my blog is of some benefit to you on your journey of life! It’s a long journey, but with Christ you will make it to the other side.
