How’s Your Heart Going?

Proverbs 4:23 “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

What does God want from you?

Your heart.

What does God want from me?

My heart.

God wants our heart on the personal level, because when he’s got that, everything else will follow as well.

And that’s because everything in life flows from our heart… one way or another, for better or worse.

Our heart is the very core of our being, but it’s also where the biggest problem in our life lies as well.

Because often there is a lot of sin and darkness in there. And that’s a condition we all share.

We all suffer from the condition of a stony, sinful, heart.

And the Bible talks often about strongholds, and often Satan, this world and our flesh have a “strong hold” on our heart, and in our heart.

“Oh you have a beautiful heart!” they say… but do you… do you really? Do I really?

I am shocked at the condition of my heart many times over when I am remotely honest in self examination in the light of scripture… and so should we all be.

After all, the Bible does say “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

… so then what!? Well, obviously we need a new heart! All of us!

David was such a wonderful character in the word of God… and yet in Psalm 51, as he repented over his horrific sin in adultery with Bathsheba and murdering her husband to cover it up, he prayed “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”

David prayed this, because he recognized everything that had happened, and the horrible thing he did… the issues in his life.. came from a deep problem in his heart… his heart had not been kept, and it was not given to God and that’s why he did what he did.

And so in this verse he is asking God for a new heart, a heart that never will do again what he did, a heart free from the tricks and traps and stranglehold of sin.

And he was quite rightly looking to God for that, because the only person that can create a new heart in you is the Creator, Jesus Christ.

… and the only thing that can wash and cleanse the heart of any person is the blood of Jesus Christ.

Nothing else will do the job. It’s Jesus Christ or bust. There is no religion and no amount of self help and reformation and “do better” that can change the heart like God’s Spirit only can.

So much of religion attempts to manage symptoms, but never can reach to the root and the cause.

And even after we are saved, yet there is still so much competition for our heart, Satan wants to steal your heart from Christ for himself… and he is often very effective at doing so with his seductive lies and the allurement of sin.

But please, if you are a Christian or even not, consider this plea from God as our heavenly Father in the book of wisdom in the Bible“My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.”

Give your heart to God, surrender it to him, let him do the operation on it which no one else and nothing else can do.

When your heart is changed, when it is cleansed and made new in Christ Jesus, only then is there finally the breaking of the totally new and eternal day in our human existence.

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 33 y/o Bible Blogger from Adelaide, South Australia. God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to share it with others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s Jesus Christ’s faith far more than my own! Because he is faithful. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and by God’s grace I anchor my soul to it. My destination is heaven. As they say, this world is not my home, I’m just a passin’ through… although most of the time I feel more like I’m hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports, I currently work on an orchard and one of my main hobbies/interests is growing vegetables. I love writing. I’m always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment on my blog or through email! My blog is inspired by Isaiah 2, and Isaiah’s vision of the last days when all nations will flow unto the Lord’s house, in a future time where everyone will love to hear God’s word and walk in light of Lord. And it is my hope that my blog will “strengthen the brethren” and “feed my sheep” as Jesus told Peter. Whether you visit once or regularly, I hope my blog is of some benefit to you on your journey of life! It’s a long journey, but with Christ you will make it to the other side.
