My Continual Resort
Psalm 71:3 “Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.”
Hello readers, it’s Saturday morning after my first week back at work for the new year.
I recently thought of the word “resort” and more particularly the phrase “continually resort” as found in the verse quoted above.
“My Continual Resort”… Do you have a place or person or thing that you resort to continually?
As a Christian we have a person and place who we can and must continually resort to.
The first mention of “resort” is in 2 Chronicles 11:13 when “And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.”
The context is that the kingdom had just been split because of Rehoboam’s foolishness, and after the division, all the Levites through the land “resorted” to Rehoboam in Judah and Jerusalem.
Jeroboam, who was the first king of the northern kingdom, had strongly instituted idolatry, kicked them out of their priestly positions, and all the Levites said we are outta here.
A resort is like a fall back position or reference point. It’s like a position to go to for a reason that has significance. People on their holidays like to go to “holiday resorts”… it’s a place they go to have fun, or get recharged, rest and enjoy themselves.
Maybe you have heard of “the last resort”! Maybe you’re on your last resort right now!
Where do you go, where do you fall back to when life gets tough? Where do you go to when things happen that you don’t understand?
Maybe it’s just at the end of a long week out in this world, but you need to resort back to the word of God and prayer and time with Jesus Christ.
I hope you have Christ who you can resort to…
We all need a continual resort.
In Nehemiah 4, Nehemiah told the people “In what place therefore ye hear the sound of the trumpet, resort ye thither unto us: our God shall fight for us.”
As they were building the wall in the book of Nehemiah, they were instructed by him that if they heard the trumpet sound, they were all meant to go and gather at the place where the trumpet sounded.
Resort to the trumpet! And the trumpet sound of God’s word is what we should continually attend and resort to in our Christian lives “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,”
Because it’s important to resort to the right person and the right place.
Yes we may resort to a loved one, or a person of great significance in our life, but it really should be Jesus Christ who we are resorting to.
Mark 2:13 “And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.”
In the gospel of Mark here, the people resorted unto Jesus, to hear what he had to say, to learn and obey.
Resort to Christ! Resort to people who will help you and love you in Christ.
When thinking about this thought of what and where do we resort to… you know a lot of people, including Christians, never resort to the Bible and the sweet comfort and guidance of the Holy Spirit… no instead they resort back to their old sin.
Proverbs 26:11 “As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.”
I’ve noticed in my life I have a tendency to resort to the wrong things.
I can resort to the wrong way of thinking. I can resort to past sins.
Peter at the end of the book of John resorted back to his old fishing boat.
I know it’s a simple though today, but the Bible does talk of the “the simplicity that is in Christ”!
Let’s all have an honest look about where and what we truly resort to… because that’s who and what we truly are “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
And now consider this verse… maybe you thought of it already, but did you know that there was a place that Christ himself and his own disciples resorted to?
And Judas knew the place, that’s where he knew they would find him to arrest him.
John 18:2 “And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.”
What a horrible way to sell out the Saviour. What an ultimate betrayal, to betray the place where they had sweet fellowship, rest and comfort after long days of ministry.
Judas Iscariot sold his soul for thirty pieces of silver. What a violation of trust, what a sin against his own soul!
Don’t sell out your place, don’t trade your place for anything in the world “what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”
That precious place is just for you and God.
So I do hope you have a place where you continually resort… I hope it is the Bible, maybe it is just your alone time with God at the start and end of the day.
He is our safe place. He is our hiding place. “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
“For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.”
The place will make you and lack of it will break you.
… The place you continually resort is must for the child of God!

Hi, my name is Joseph Zadow. I am a 33 y/o Bible Blogger from Adelaide, South Australia. God’s word is the best thing that we can be given, and once we have it and know it for ourselves it is both a privilege and responsibility to share it with others! We are blessed to be a blessing! I am a sinner (for sure!) saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s Jesus Christ’s faith far more than my own! Because he is faithful. I believe the Bible is the word of God, and by God’s grace I anchor my soul to it. My destination is heaven. As they say, this world is not my home, I’m just a passin’ through… although most of the time I feel more like I’m hangin’ by a thread in Jericho! I love playing sports, I currently work on an orchard and one of my main hobbies/interests is growing vegetables. I love writing. I’m always happy to talk, so feel free to leave a comment on my blog or through email! My blog is inspired by Isaiah 2, and Isaiah’s vision of the last days when all nations will flow unto the Lord’s house, in a future time where everyone will love to hear God’s word and walk in light of Lord. And it is my hope that my blog will “strengthen the brethren” and “feed my sheep” as Jesus told Peter. Whether you visit once or regularly, I hope my blog is of some benefit to you on your journey of life! It’s a long journey, but with Christ you will make it to the other side.
