Psalm 40:2 “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.”

It would be nice to think that none of us would ever go through hard times in life.

And some people do seem to get it far, far better than others in this life… this is hardly an equal world we live in.

But with that said, the reality is that all of us to some degree will have times in our lives when we personally go through “the pits”.

When you’re in “the pits”, things are pretty bad.

I’m not sure what pit you have been in, or maybe you are in right now, or will yet be in….

But the solution to “the pits” is the Lord Jesus Christ.

He can and will bring you out of every pit in life… everything from our personal pits of figurative hell all the way to the literal pit of hell itself.

Being in the pits is not fun, it’s not nice, and we would like to get out. But reality is, there are pits in life we cant pull ourselves out of, pits that only God can lift us up from.

God brought the Psalmist writing this Psalm out from a few personal pits in his life…

It was from the pits that we read this beautiful Psalm about a man rescued from the pits by Jesus Christ.

For all of us, it’s from the deepest pits that we all finally find, or rather are finally ready to be found and rescued by the Rock of ages in Jesus Christ.

And in time, as we reflect on all the pits God saved us from, we will realize that it was from those where God did his greatest work and brought forth his greatest praise in our lives.
